I’m using 2 pod mics for my podcast running through a Behringer mixing desk and into a gates / compressor unit which goes back into the computer, And then I’ve set up some audio filters from previous KZbin video guides but something isn’t right because it sounds a bit too overprocessed and harsh so what you said about the high-end makes a lot of sense, My question is what sort of dB range should I be recording from the mixing desk and what kind of level going into OBS? There’s so much in the signal chain but it just gets a bit confusing, when my podcast plays on apple/Spotify it just sounds harsh at high volumes even though its then mastered at -1 db / 16 lufts to match other shows so I’m definitely doing something wrong before that stage because the mastering just brings out the artefacts.

Sounds like you may have a few more processing chains that you may need but that’s easy to work with. I’d say rule of thumb is to stay between 18-22 LUFS, 16 may be making it harsh. If you are live streaming into OBS it should stay in the yellow range -15 or so. It’s different in a DAW for sure but when I do Mixdowns, I stay at -6 to -4 and use a limiter to see what type of headroom I can give. You can use something like the Youlean Loudness Meter which is free to see your constant LUF and work from there. Hope this helps.
