Even as someone who mostly has a pretty different taste in music (Big exceptions here and there, and I always enjoy listening), I LOVE his videos. KZbin is just such a crazy resource, all sorts of perspectives, and people like VR make that dream happen. I can only imagine what it'd be like if my favorite artist shared this much.

after all these crazy resonator- and mudpie videos this was a nice reminder that you're just a human being with sometimes normal desires, like throwing a simple sound into a sampler. i could literally recommend this video to a beginner and it wouldn't be too confusing

I Have a handful of romplers and its genuinely incredible how the engineers back in the day achieved what they did. It gives you a love for samplers and what you can do with them, like faking many FX with just clever adsr and smart loop points.

The fact that the 5th is also the 3:2 polyrhythm is magical to me.
@henryisaway5 ай бұрын
A cool fun fact he shared when he was featured in the XLNT Sound Podcast: He said he didn't fact check it - and neither have i - but he mentioned that if you speed sound frequencies up so that they become colour frequencies, notes in the same scale become complimentary colours as well. He also said that notes in the same scale have rhythmic relationships as demonstrated in this video. He joked about designing a table where the ratio of the table's dimensions and it's colours can be converted into a chord and a rhythm, iirc haha
@drkastenbrot5 ай бұрын
@@henryisaway the part about colors is untrue and kinda nonsensical if you look at the difference in musical harmony and color theory, the two fields work entirely different. the latter part about rhythm i dont understand. what do you mean by rhythm in this context?
@DoctorSoctopus5 ай бұрын
@@drkastenbrot Watch this Adam Neely video to understand this concept: "Polyrhythms are Polypitch - live @ Ableton Loop, Berlin"
@drkastenbrot5 ай бұрын
@@DoctorSoctopus oh i see. its not surprising though, you can do this with any cyclic function and if the nodes of that functions are multiples of the logarithm of 1/12th of the fundamental it will give you a 12tet chord. you can apply the same idea to distortion and create a transfer function that turns any tone into a chord. as long as all frequencies scale with their relative factors intact it will remain a chord.

I actually did a record session with a single waterdrop sound and added EQ, reverb and Delay and fiddled a lot around with it and I got some very nice results, by playing around with the pitch, mulholland drive and pogo, stereo delay and reverb in the sample precomputed effects. I rendered most parts of it for later sounddesign purposes. :D
