Thanks. Liked the way you do it. But instead of waiting for too long can't we use pressure cooker to boil? What if we don't have time to soak or to cook in a hurry?
@PabsKitchen
@PabsKitchen 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Roshni Nisha, of course you can use pressure cooker. If you don't have time to soak, you can cook in the pressure cooker around 20 minutes after the pressure cooker with the lentil in it start to whistle on medium to high heat after let it rest around 10 to 15 minutes then open the lid and use. I hope it helps :)

My daughter in law is Nepalese and my son is American: just married 3 days ago in Nepal. I went to their wedding in Nepal and stayed 3 weeks. They made this lentil soup every day and would serve a ladle full or two over rice, goat meat or pigeon meat along with curried cauliflower, leafy greens or root vegetables. Full of flavor and authentic East Indian/ Nepalese food.

Helloooo. My grandma from America sent us lentils. It is inside a plastic bag and has not opened for almost 2 years since we didn't know what to do with it. Now that I saw this Nepali recipe, I would love to give it a try!!! But I have 5 problems and I wish you could help me with it: Problem no. 1: I do not know what a cumin seed is. (I'm very excited to comment and so I commented first and I'm going to search afterwards if there is a cumin seed here in the Philippines 😂) But please help me, what are the others that I can substitute to cumin seeds? Problem no. 2: (As I've said, I was too excited that's why I commented first before searching.) Uhm, Ghee? Is it like a butter? Can I just use butter? Problem no. 3: I am the type of person who doesn't like salt. I even tell my papa not to put salt when he cooks egg for me. I just really don't like salt. Can I not put salt in this lentil soup instead? But what will happen if I won't put salt aside from its flavor being ruined? Problem no. 4: I was shocked when I read your description. Cooking hours after soaking is 1 hour and 10 minutes? I honestly think that it took that longer because of the achievement to make the lentil soup to be thicker, am I right? Correct me if I am wrong, but if I am right, can I just put something like flour to make it thicker and so that the cooking hour would be lesser than 1 hour and 10 minutes? Problem no. 5: As I've said in my intriduction in this comment box, the lentil seeds we have here is almost 2 years already(?) and it is stored in our refrigerator... Uhm, can I still use this for cooking even it is almost 2 yrs stored in a fridge? I dont know if it is still okay because there is no "Expiration date" labeled. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE OH PLEASE ANYONE ANSWER ME. I NEED ADVICE ON THIS BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE I WANNA TRY IT. Just reply to my comment box with this format 👇 Solution no. 1: your answer Solution no. 2: your answer and so on... up to solution no. 5: your answer. THANK YOU 😂😂😄😄

Hello Zydie, thanks for your comment and curiosities! Here are some advice to your problems. No 1: Cumin seeds in Filipino language is *Buto ng Kumin* if I'm not wrong. It has a very distinct flavor and aroma. If you couldn't find it then no need to use, garlic is good. Or if you have Carom seeds would be fine too but don´t worry. No 2: Ghee you make from the Butter it is call clarified butter , traditionally there are deep process to make it but instant way you can make it your self by using unsalted butter at your kitchen or yes you can just use butter instead, it will flavor a bit different but not much and still going to be good. I have a video recipe to make ghee here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5W6maeefKyIfpY No 3: About Salt if you don't like it don't use, this always depends on the persons taste, it really doesn't ruin the flavor, it is going to be still aromatic without salt 😊 but for me it enhances more the flavor because I love salt. No 4: About the cooking time, look, use a pressure cooker to boil it, takes around 15 to 20 minutes to cook plus seasoning time so with in 25 to 30 minutes you will have a delicious lentil soup. For me lentils should cook very well itself to get the rich and creamy texture, it's not about the thickness, its about the richness and the flavor of it. The slower you cook the more flavorful it becomes but it always depends how much time you have 😊. Sorry I wouldn't put flour. No 5: I'm really not sure about this 2 years old lentils for cooking, I would rather buy a new pack and cook unless you really want to try them. I hope it helps, anything let me know... thank you so much and happy cooking 😊

I was waiting for a very long time (wow haha) for you to reply 😭 Before you replied my questions, I have already cooked last night because I was too excited to try it :'( And sadly, I think I failed... The taste of my lentil soup is like a medicine... I didn't like it as a soup, but I still ate it as a side dish... I wanted to eat it as a soup... but I couldn't... By the way, I am going to reply 1-5 of your answers and I am going to add another 3 questions: Reply no. 1: I really couldn't find cumin seeds last night from the malls and grocery stores, even in the market, the people in the market doesn't know what cumin seeds isss..... or maybe they know, they just don't know what the common name is, even me. I kept searching for the tagalog/Filipino word of cumin, but there's no answer. By the way, I couldn't find cumin seeds that's why I bought the thyme 😂 Because the cumin seeds and thyme looks the same 😂 Is it okay that I put that 1 tablespoon thyme instead of cumin??? Answer no. 2: The ghee. Uhm, I have downloaded a video about it but I didn't make ghee. I also didn't put regular butter... Because I found another video from Middle East video of Spicy Carrot Lentil soup about putting sunflower oil... I do not know about sunflower oil but we have sunflower seeds so what I did was that I put an oil in the pan and I put those sunflower seeds too, then I strained it to get the sunflower oil 😂 P.S. I mixed the recipe of Lentil soup in Middle East and recipe of Lentil soup in Nepal. Answer no. 3: Hehe. I already put the salt last night... because I didn't put ginger... Answer no. 4: It was okayyy. I didnt use rice cooker and at the same time I didn't count the time... I honestly don't think if I cooked it correctly or in a right time because I dont know if it was really cooked since my stomach today hurts a bit... I dont know, or maybe because of the new taste... im not used to the taste. Answer no. 5: I used the lentil seeds even if it is stored in a fridge for 2 yrs... but it is still good :D... NOW HERE ARE THE 3 PROBLEMS AGAIN: Problem no. 1: I know I only cooked because I want to try it for myself... my sisters and my papa didnt want to try... I was just trying it so that I could make delicious lentil soup and if i made it correctly, then i will introduce it to my sisters and papa too... now my problem is that i thought i put few lentil seeds... but when im done cooking, it fits into a one big bowl... so it means it is manyyy. i havent eat it all last night so i put it in a fridge again... can i heat it today and put water and spices again?? or in other words, can i cook the lentil soup that i stored last night so that i can correctly do it now with your help and advices for what spices should i substitute? Problem no. 2: Please help me to substitute some spices that I dont have here... By the way, here are my ingredients that i used last night: (since i told u awhile ago that i mixed the recipe from mideast and nepal) *lentil (a little bit brown) (of course it is the main ingredient *Thyme instead of cumin seeds (I just thought hahaha) *Carrot (I saw in middle east video) *Sunflower oil instead of ghee or butter (i saw in mideast) *turmeric ground powder (i saw in mideast) ps it is my first time tasting turmeric and it tastes like medicine... it is the thing i didnt want. *one whole finely chopped red onion (mideast and nepal) *2 smashed garlic (mideast and nepal) *2 small red chilli (nepal video) *the chilli seeds (i just thought it would be delicious to put it since nepali like spicyyy) *1 and a half tablespoon of salt hehe *1 tablespoon of pepper *i didnt use ginger (should i use it???) *tomato (from mideast video) PLEASE HELP ME Problem no. 3: Im not sure if i really cooked it or if it was cooked since it was still chunky and some seeds are still round (?) eeeehhhh... i wanted it to be gourmet or like blended smoothly... but we dont have blender or hand blender... i also tried to smash it while cooking but it didnt worked... plus i craved the carrots before i put it in the lentil soup so that it would be smooth-looking 😂 P.S. PLEASE ANSWER AGAIN MY REPLY FROM ANSWERS 1-5 AND PLEASE ANSWER MY PROBLEMS FROM PROBLEMS 1-3... WITH THE SAME FORMAT PLEASE. I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME TO GET THIS LENTIL SOUP SUPER AMAZIIIING. I WAS IMAGINING BEFORE THAT IT TASTES LIKE SPICY CARROT CREAMY LENTIL SOUP BUT I FAILED.... IT TASTED LIKE MEDICINE :'( I FAILED WITH MY OWN MIX-UP RECIPE OF NEPAL AND MIDEAST... PLS HELP ME.... I WILL ONLY MAKE THE SPICES TODAY AND HEAT THE LENTIL SOUP THAT I MADE LAST NIGHT...

Sorry for the late reply but I'm here now so lets clear out our curiosities. First are you using the same Lentil beans that I used on my recipe? If so even if you cook it very well only with salt also is good but make sure the lentils cooked very well until soft and creamy. 1. It depends the quantity of the lentil you are cooking but I would only use around 1/2 teaspoon thyme if I'm using first time in the lentil or non only use garlic. 2. Sunflower seeds I never use like that so no idea, sunflower oil is very easy to find here not sure there. You can use normal butter its good. Good try of making mixed recipe but I would love to try individually first. 3. Salt enhances the flavor, ginger is good for your health too. 4,5. It may be because of the old lentils, make sure you cook them very well and use the right amount of spices to not to get hurt your stomach. Advice to your problems 1. Sorry for late reply to suggest this I was busy. Yes already cooked lentils you can recook and add spices to your taste. 2. To make simple and delicious Lentil: you can boil 200 grams Lentils, 2 tablespoons Oil any that you prefer, 3 cloves of Garlic, dried whole chilies, Salt to your taste, Ginger is very good in many ways so I love using it, turmeric if you don´t like don't use it. 3. Please don't blend it if you can, cook it until it smooth and smash with back of the ladle and you will get better flavor and texture. Please watch my recipe video and follow, use the ingredients that you have it is going to be delicious.Thank you so much for trying. :)

Sorry to hear that it didn't go well for you. Look sometimes the beans you are cooking can be old so it doesn't cook as required time and also you will find unpleasant flavours. If not then try to cook beans more time than the recipe said adjusting the heat of your stove. Or cook in pressure
