I tend to clean using a 15/45 minute rule. 15 mins cleaning, 45 mins resting. I have a number of health issues that mean I can easily push myself too far, physically. And this rule helps me get more done without killing myself. I also don’t have a regular cleaning routine, so a lot of my cleaning gets pushed off until I have guests coming, so there’s usually A TON for me to catch up on!

A great time to move all of your mess from all of your rooms to your one bedroom lol I have major anxiety about having friends and family over, so much so that I don't really ever have friends over. I see every bit of mess and dirt and it just overwhelms me. I'll try some of these tips and tricks and hopefully start to have friends over!

I am too! I get scent induced migraines too so vinegar and lots of plug-ins and candles wreck me. I use Hex Performance fabric deodorizer. The fresh and clean scent smells like green apples to me but it's never overwhelming and the scent fades quickly!

I make a 50/50 solution of water and vodka or rubbing alcohol and add a few drops of any essential oil (or none at all) and spray that on my fabric surfaces to kill any odorous bacteria. Let it dry and it should smell fresh!

I use laundry baskets to gather everything I don't have time for and stash them in a hopefully unvisited room. I have been known to hide that clutter with a few rumpled sheets and leave the basket in the laundry room :D

The easiest way I’ve found to make my house smell better is to just open some windows before I start cleaning/tidying, so the house can air out while I’m doing other tasks.

Less of a cleaning and more of a comfort but While It's rare for us to have guests over I always have snacks prepared for expected guests and take into consideration each person's diet needs like allergies and such! It adds a lil welcome "home" feel imo

Great tips. Id like to suggest that people avoid artificial scents and try to use natural cleaners like isopropyl alcohol and vinegar, before having guests over Some people eg me react badly to artificial scents and cleaning materials. I use essential oils like peppermint to make the place smell nice. And wafting scents of coffee is always good.
@theyoftheravens8 ай бұрын
Fresh coffee or tea > over perfumes for sure! My asthma reacts horribly to perfumed stuff. Having a small pot on the stove with water and a couple cinnamon sticks (provided there's no allergy to that 😜) or similar is also good!
@daniellewagner3926 Жыл бұрын
We take our wifi/guest stuff one step further and include some local snacks and chocolate on their bed so they don't have to rummage through a strange kitchen for that midnight snack! I also take the stick vacuum and hit all the places where cobwebs and gnats like to accumulate, especially where I know the sun will shine through and highlight them. 😆 It takes so little time but makes me feel like our space is super clean even if it's not.

The timer takes off the stress. Staying focused on one room and not getting distracted with other tasks, which is what happens with me. Clearing counters, stove tops, dish drainer is my full time job it seems that they are drop zones. The one bad cleaning habit in this house is papers, Mail, etc will be moved from common area to office where door is shut, and office is near unusable because of this "cleaning" method....

We recently had a bunch of people visit after Thanksgiving and the process for cleaning up the house was very, very long and hard. Dishes, laundry, floors, bathrooms, the front yard with its endless amount of leaves and we have a dog, too, so we had to clean up a couple dog messes so the kids had a yard that was ready for them to play in, too. And there was so much more that I didn't do. I didn't tackle the fridge front, nor did i empty the bad stuff from the fridge, though I did do the terrible kitchen floor and the mildly dirty lower cabinet doors and drawer faces. I did wipe down the dishwasher front - I think?; I did tackle the oven exterior of the door, and the microwave front, and the oven handle which was a pain in its own way. And I did the front stairs which are carpeted, which, with a dog who sheds a bunch is always a chore - and then after the guests left, the stairs were a nightmare in a different way from bits of leaves and tons of shoes and going up and down the stairs endlessly. It was really fun, but it was a ton of work before and after.
