Great illustration Jason! With me hand building my turnouts, the switch blades are soldered to a copper plated PC board that is also soldered to my stock rails where I don't have to run a wire but because I isolate my frog and cut gaps on the PC Boards past the frog, I do solder small wires to each of the corresponding frog rails to the stock rail. - Jason

very good explanation thankyou, one of my hornby curve points has caused a problem with some wheels bridging the two rails just after the frog causing frustrating shorts, i have painted one of the rails just after the frog as a temporary fix but your two insulated rail joiners might be the solution, ive been putting off completely removing it due to it being ballasted and in a awkward place thankyou for this video👍

Cheers Andy, hope this doe s help you in the future. HAve you checked your back to back measurements of axles ? I will do a video on this soon.

hi jason i assume you solder the wires as close as possible to the pivot point of the blades to avoid having to make small slot to allow for the main vement of the blades? like the drawing !

@@paulboote2059 yes paul, exactly that

Great video. I never thought of wiring insulfrog points but will do from now on. My large layout has operated well for over 30 years, but I have had to faf on cleaning the occasional point and trying to find the relative dodgy point amongst over 60 points. Also, I have never been able to work out how you wire electrofrog points. That said I probably have not tried hard enough. Thank you.

Excellent!, so glad this helped

As I use dpdt relays, I only use the point blades to cover the the points and no future than the end of the point, there after on both routes have rail insulators , relying on the relays to route the power thus. :o) Alan "Out" :o)

I have two main lines, one up and one down. In addition I have two loops/sidings in each direction. I do not have any powered points, they are all manual ; sometimes If Ingave trains sitting in these loops and tge main lines are busy, I have sometimes experience one or two locos creeping. I do not have any isolators on my track and I would assume the us results in the creeping? Would you suggest I put isolating rail joiners at every point? Thanks Jason

Although not 100% required I would highly recommend it Charlie, I suggest this would CURE the creeping.

Do you wire the three live and three earth wires individually to the bus wire or would you group the 3 wires together to a single connection joined to the bus wire.
@BarnabasJunction11 ай бұрын
Either way is fine, but personally, to save on connections, I would group them together.
