I grind my teeth at night. My dentist made me an expensive plastic guard that I'm supposed to wear at night, but I mostly don't because I hate it. It actually exacerbates the tension because it's a hard foreign object that encourages me to clench my jaw even harder, so I wake up with very sore jaw muscles. Not once has he ever thought to get the root of the problem like this does. THANK YOU.

I wonder if you might do a video on trauma. I'm a big fan of Bessel van der Kolk's book, "The Body Keeps the Score." But he falls a bit short on the practical treatment through movement.

I had no idea I had TMJ on my right side. After releasing it it feels like cranial positioning is able to move to a more neutral spot in terms of the planes of motion. Super impactful! Very practical little exercise, thanks so much!

Powerful exercise. Felt a rush if energy from upper shoulders and chest up into neck, jaw then into my whole head. 5 minutes later felt a fatigue sensation dowb both sides if neck into upper chest. Will definitely try this next time j have a headache. Thanks for this and all the info/techniques you share so generously.

I'm scheduled to get Botox in January because of how badly I grind my teeth, facial and jaw tension lead to migraines for me. But doing your exercises make me think I may be able to avoid it! Your teachings are making my life so much better, thank you!

this is incredible! i usually use robacado TMJ exercises, but those mostly focus on the lower jaw, so having this exercise for my upper jaw is amazing. i've never felt so much space in my face before! i've been using a mouth guard for about half a year now (also because i lost a tooth because of how much i apparently grind my teeth at night...), but i still always wake up with incredibly tense muscles. even chewing food can be painful/difficult at times. i'm eating my lunch now with much more ease! thank you so much for sharing this exercise, i will definitely add it to my daily routine!

An amazing effective exercise. I had Bell's Palsy several years and practiced Feldenkrais TMJ exercise series for several years. This exercise added a new dimension to my healing. I wasn't aware of upper jaw movement until this lesson. My facial tension is strikingly relaxed now. Will begin practicing this every day. Thank you for sharing with all of us.

Cool exercise! My jaw is super locked up and this is probably the most helpful thing I’ve done to free it up. When you said to only move the upper jaw it was crazy cuz it felt like a whole new movement. Also seemed like it will help with some of my tension headaches. Thanks for the vid!

I am so thankful your videos found me! I have done several releases for jaw tension but never even realized upper jaw! Having jaw tension brought on by stress is what led me to yoga practice 20 years ago. And the practice led to training which led to me teaching yoga. I am blessed to share my practice with other senior citizens and so much of what we do you articulate so well in these short videos you offer! Thank you 🙏 I will be sharing your link with others!

Taro, thank you so much for posting this. This is actually life changing for me. I had often experienced a high degree of tension in the face to the degree that I would get Botox every 3 months ( I believe largely due to thought patterns which seeing a therapist as well as the book “mindset” by Carol Dweck have been very helpful in exposing me to alternate ways of thinking that ( fixed mindset vs growth mindset) that have greatly helped in getting out of my head and into my actual life around me.) As I engage in this process of practicing adoption of mindsets which are not only helpful, but grounded in reality- this exercise has been TREMONDOUSLY helpful in this path. ( plus Botox is now out of the question lol because I began teaching and need to be able to use my face hahaha). Thank you for sharing!

@TaroIwamoto
@TaroIwamoto 2 жыл бұрын
Softening throat is similar to softening eyes in terms of sensation, but really hard to describe in words. You can try squeezing/tightening/narrowing your throat a bit more intentionally to become familiar with sensation of your habitual pattern, then slowly let go and tune into sensation of opening the throat. maybe this helps

Thank you for these exercises. I have had chronic, severe TMJ pain for over two years. I have a mouthguard for my lower jaw which I wear every night. I also have one for day wear, but I find it difficult to wear. Difficult because it interferes with talking and drinking. I have had two rounds of steroid injections a year apart. They really help. Last time I had steroid + Botox injected. There was still a lot of pain from then (August 8th) to now (October 30th). The only difference in the treatments was the addition of Botox. Now, the pain is finally going away again. I am wondering what your views are about using Botox for TMJ pain. My insurance does not cover Botox injections for TMJ pain. I would love to know your thoughts about all of this. I intend to start using your exercises right away. Thank you!

You are welcome:) I hesitate to give any medical advice as I am not a doctor, but my thinking is always that I ask what is underlying driver of tension and think how I can change the underlying conditions to make positive impacts for a long term while I may utilize something to manage symptoms temporarily. Often stress is closely related to TMJ issues.

Ok so this may work idk ill try it all u said I do but important for the teeth an the no space top slightly over bottom however after I try to lose the lower jaw it feel like it shift like to be to loose an shifts slightly to the right 🤔 not sure if that also to do with when they took out my wisdom teeth an the net one to remove the wisdom 😳 lol it was mess but cus this there was a issues. I still haven't found a dr to deal with tmj tmd like they just send me repeatedly on a wild goose Chase for it no dr really deal with this problem an it why I have term issues, any who this tmj dose affect my teeth gravely. But the jaw it click alot or what I feel like bone on bone clicks that hurt relly an so 🤔 imma see if these work better cus as per years ago them other exercise don't do nothing for it !
