For the re-learn process I would also suggest to recharge it the slowest as you can ( the lowest power you can) if posible, after the completly empty state.

Oh good one. For my SRF 6A is about the lowest setting for the 220V adapter I have. The lowest reading I got so far was shortly after I started using the extra 6kW charge tank so this definitely can be part of the issue.
@Doctorbasss3 жыл бұрын
In fact what you are doing is to make the BMS and MBB to re-learn where the true 0% flag is and where the true 100% flaf are for the Voltage state and amp hour state. Jump to 7:39 for the trick =)

Interesting… I got an FX, only 7.2 battery. I know all about range anxiety. Totally gonna try this in spring. Thanks for sharing!
@victorvanrooij98863 жыл бұрын
I would advice to do this trick once in a while, it also helps with the range anxiety. You will better understand what the bike is able to do. I did the same, a few weeks after I had the bike. I had a feeling my range was lower than spec. So my dealer asked me to keep ring it until its dead... At 00% and range 0km, I was still able to ride about 20km at 30km/h.... Ha took almost 40 min to get it dead. I send my log to the dealer and they were able to tell me that there wasn't a problem with my battery. After checking the BMS my AH capacity was about 119AH.. Reason that this happens... Probably because the battery voltage is swinging at the save "end" of its capacity. Its a bit difficult for the bike or any other electronic system to determine if it is at it save end. We as users are asking the system to stop at a save voltage. But if we accelerate the battery voltage will have a dip per definition. But we would not want our bike to cut out during each acceleration. So in a sense we are asking the system to guess when the battery is empty and when the battery is still able to give some acceleration before it is unsafe to continue. Guessing is hard, even for microcontrollers ;)

My zero sr / s is still quite new. With several trips I was able to calculate a usable battery capacity (in the range from 0% to 100%) of around 11.8 kWh. Since there is still a reserve below 0% (approx. 5-9 km according to the experience of other drivers) this is approx. 0.8 kWh reserve plus 11.8 kWh and a total of 12.6 kWh. This corresponds to the information provided by Zero. As long as this does not decrease, I will not run completely empty. To protect the battery, this is by no means recommended.
@Hans21833 жыл бұрын
If you don't have magic charging or reduced range then I would indeed not bother with this procedure. It IS recommended by Zero HQ in specific cases. What is not recommended is to keep it below 30% for longer than needed. Also storing for longer periods at anything other than around 60% is not recommended and what their storage mode aims at.

Remember to key off after bike stops. I pushed mine key on and it recharged just enough by the time I got it plugged in garage the green circle came back on and this method didn’t work. I now will do again and remember to key off before pushing. Wasted my first attempt at resetting range. 😅
@Hans21833 жыл бұрын
He he not sure if that will make all the difference to be honest. Unless you pushed it really far. I'm starting to think the slow charging is more what makes the difference now.
@SniperSnake50BMG3 жыл бұрын
Is balancing the cells basically. Recommend to charge as slow as possible.
@Hans21833 жыл бұрын
Okay for the second part. But the first part is important here running it beyond zero. Just balancing didn't change the Ah readout at all (not that it doesn't help just not with that specific value).
@matthewdanielsiskin3 жыл бұрын
charge your bike at like 2amps for as long as it takes after draining your battery, you'll see a massive difference. happy cells.

I need to try that now. I did hear from die users that charging slower does spill more electricity. Also something I could simply measure. Thanks for the tip

Thanks for sharing. I don’t have range issues on my FXS so I won’t be needing this procedure any time soon. When I bought my ktm freeride e-xc, the manual stated that is was very important during the very first use, to deplete the battery completely until you cannot ride anymore, and then charge it. Maybe it has something to do with BMS calculations also.
@Hans21833 жыл бұрын
Indeed sounds like some calibration. Not sure what makes it move away from the calibrated value over time though. If only we knew how to overcome that. Would be easier than calibrating 🙄

So I have a question… I do this and discharge all the way down to 0%, then when I charge it back to full, do I turn on the Extended Range option in the Menu to charge to full 17.3kW capacity (110% SoC)? From what I understand, 100% SoC is essentially just 90% of battery capacity (15.7kW).
@Hans21836 ай бұрын
You could do so but then make sure to ride directly after. Don't keep it stored charged with the extended range option.

I try this with my SR/S 2020 1300miles with battery capacity @ 61ah vs 112ah -->nothing to do .I do 60 miles with 100% SOC and consumption blocked at 150w/h by miles on APP .Log file send to zero .I'm afraid ...
@Hans21832 жыл бұрын
Ooph yes that's really low. Somehow some of these bikes keep adjusting Ah downwards. All you can do is hope that your dealer will help you fix it.

@@Hans2183 Hi, charging is good (around 12KWH) but internal battery resistance is degraded . SOC is calculate with voltage but SOH (capacity) calculate with internal resistor . For ZERO is simple to calculate R=U/I and R show battery degradation .In my case (and SRF /S 2020 -->2021 due to high power motor) R degradation is due to battery conception -->degradation of connections between cell . Charging with low Amp is correct (good capacity =Amp X time) but discharging with high Amp cause falling of voltage and SOC .My battery must be replaced , i hope with 2022 model .🤨
@energetek6613 жыл бұрын
Might try this out on the energica. So you have to run it all the way down and charge it up, correct?
@Hans21833 жыл бұрын
On Zero you can still go once the dash shows 0% SOC for 10km or often more. At very limited output though so I wouldn't do it in traffic. Until it shows an error on the dash. Than it refuses anything. Haven't tried it on my Energica just yet so I have no clue what happens on those. But let us know (watching your content 👌) just do it in a safe way. Maybe with a truck with a generator or one of those EVs that can charge back. That would be awesome. Mercedes doesn't support that yet but maybe some day.

I don't thik it has any thing to do with re learing, rather it was out of balance
@Hans21832 жыл бұрын
No inbalance is not the issue. At the time of filming my bikes were daily balanced overnight. They have programming issues, not sure what algorithm they've implemented for SOC but it sure is buggy or incomplete. At some point I had a working one and a broken one but never had the time to compare in more details. Plus Zero kindly informed me they weren't amused. Sad to say but jumping to Energica was the best option for me.

hi handsome. i did a 8kilometers=4970 miles? in your 5:25 clip. can you explain? thanks,
@Hans21833 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the state of your bike. At that point the longest I did continue to ride with 0% battery on the dash was 8 kilometer (=5 miles). But it wasn't depleted yet. You can get 10, 20 or even more km out of it once you've reached 0. But at some point the bike will show an error on the dash and then it won't ride anymore.

It's crazy isn't it!? The deeper I dig into these Zero motorcycles the more I appreciate the Energica. I have a feeling you can relate to that :D. Energica has a lot going for them anyways and really starting to appreciate small things now like an estimated range on the dash that adapts right away if you adapt your riding AKA useful.
