Hi Kirby, I am so glade to read you are enjoying my style of watercolour painting. Watercolour medium can be so rewarding but in the same breath can become very frustrateing. I go through a lot of watercolour sketches for every painting I share. Lots og experimenting, observing the watercolour do its thing. Have fun.👍

@@look4light Thank you John. I was wondering if you do portrait in this style? Watercolor is my favorite medium.

+ju wu , I have never tried a portrait in this style. I think I would get too detailed if I tried. You could try it. Let me know how it goes.

New subscriber here😊 just have to say that the way you generously break it down has helped me with being afraid of blank paper. Some of your ideas are stuck in my head until I get a chance to try them. I feel like they are training wheels. Lol

Yes, it's been to long. Life does have a way of adding priorities in front of other, less important endeavors. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

I always so appreciate when I find you've posted another video! Some time back you encouraged me to not fuss and just paint several versions/attempts of what I'm trying to convey until one worked for me. I was wondering if you did this with this painting; or did it just come together from the beginning? Most grateful for being able to watch the process of your abstract expressionism!!

Hi dragonflycat, I always create a number of draft/rough paintings to work out techniques and composition. Once I'm happy with an idea I will then create a master painting, always looking at the rough paintings as I go. It's a good habit to practice creating at least 3 rough concept painting prior to sitting down to do the final. Even then, I do mess up. 😀👍

Hi Peggy. Big thank you for all your interest in my watercolour paintings. And, for your interest in my paint brush collection. I will follow up with a detailed discription of all the brushes I use, which isn't many. One common theme with my brushes, they are all animal hair, not synthetic. The hair brushes hold more water. I will follow up shortly.

Hi Ana, great to hear you are enjoying the watercolour videos. The paper I used for this painting is Arches 140lb cold press. A great cotton paper but on the pricey side. I do a lot of experimenting with paper and watercolour pigments. Lots of failures on my studio floor.🤓 But having lot's of fun!

How watercolor should be

Hi John a year ago yiu said not to buy animal hair but today you say buy it. I am confused
@look4light Жыл бұрын
You are right, I did say that. And as I experiment with a variety of bushes and palette knife etc. I have found materials that work for me. And now, I am using hair brushes because the sythetic brushes are not performing. The chinese brush you see me use is goat hair. They come in a variety of sizes. Not expensive so I would suggest you try various sizes. There are two other brushes you see me use; a 1 inch sable and a fine long tip(1" in length) sable. All hold good amounts of water. As artists, we must try new materials, learn to fail as we go. I hope this helps.
