Rarely I see life hacks that actually make life convenient. I used to have warm water from a water heater do the job but this is more convenient and just does enough "heating" to melt the ice. Excellent video, short to the point.

Eek! I should have known to visit your Chanel FIRST! I found your video because I was googling to find out if I could use my shop vac to vacuum the chipped-off ice buildup from the chest freezer. LOL, honestly, I never thought to melt it, I just want to suck it out, but your way is best, thank you. 😀 Brilliant of you to modify that bottom bin to fit! BRILLIANT!

Holy WOW! Thank you SO much. That was SO simple and quick! I thought for sure it was gonna take half the day! I ran the shop vac for about 10 min, then I took a hammer and LIGHTLY tapped along the top edge of each side: the ice fell off in giant sheets!
@chrisnotap8 жыл бұрын
You don't have to even use the hammer (don't want to damage the interior) just wait another few minutes or so and you'll hear the ice fall into the bottom. It really does work well.

Wow! Christmas morning and I'm faced with need to pack my freezer with food and the ice is 2 inches thick. This is amazing!!! Plus for the big ice on the bottom that I couldn't reach, I switched the hose to vacuum and it picked the ice chunk up so I could drop it in a bin. Then I vacuumed the rest of the water out of the bottom.

We have an upright freezer and I use a box fan to deice it. Shims under the fan to aim it up a little helps get rid of the ice near the top. It takes 20 -30 minutes to melt the ice and a turkey roaster pan in the bottom will catch most of the water. Because this method is so easy, you can defrost it more often and save a few bucks on electricity.

When I first came up with the idea, I thought it would work well because of the amount of warm air that comes out of a vacuum cleaner, and it did. Saves a lot of time and work. Thanks for your comment.

Brilliant! Why did I buy an upright freezer when a chest model is so easy to maintain? Thanks. I'll know better next time.
@chrisnotap4 жыл бұрын
They are more efficient when you open them. The chest freezer the cold air wants to stay in since cold air sinks and warm air rises. With an upright, when you open the down, the cold air wants to fall out to migrate to the lowest area. Not a huge thing but makes sense. Pros and cons to both. Thanks.

Easy. You take a fan and let it blow right into the freezer. Put a baking pan or other suitable container on the bottom of the cabinet to catch most of the water. Use absorbent cloth to prevent water running out of the cabinet.
