I gave that “quit crying in your beer” talk to myself recently. As a single 77-yr-old single woman, some things are hard! My motto is I CAN DO HARD THINGS!!

I turn 65 in two weeks. My husband left me 8 years ago. I was able to buy a fixer upper. Room by room I'm making it lovely. But lately I've allowed myself to feel hopeless. Your video today gave me the kick I needed to tackle some more projects. Frugality is sometimes chosen but more often it's imposed. In my case by divorce before retirement. Thanks for the conversation.

“Life humbles you. As you grow older, you stop chasing the big things and start valuing the little things. Alone time, enough sleep, a good diet, long walks, and quality time with loved ones. Simplicity becomes the ultimate goal.” A quote I saved from the internet. They are very wise words! At seventy-three I can say I cherish every minute of every day. I may be physically exhausted at the end of each day but I know I gave it my all. I just found your channel and I have enjoyed watching. You go girl on that “locker room project”.

Whell. 😮 I’ve been having a weird existential crisis since turning 51 last year. I went for my physical and stared at the form wondering who I was filling the paperwork out for bc who the heck is 51 here? Suddenly everything hurts and I’m whiny because my parents left this earth too young at 58 and 64 and aren’t here to guide me. I’ve been on SSDI since 45 and very much still 17 in my head. I should be GRATEFUL. I chose to move away from family not because I don’t like them but because I can’t afford to live in NYC anymore. So same. I have to self talk and remind myself yes, the road was rough but look how lucky I am now? Every day I’m work to choose to have a good day. Even when it hurts. ❤ “Go with the strength you have.” I love that. I’m glad the algorithm brought me to you.

I was just telling myself yesterday that I am so grateful that, despite the cold, I have a warm, small house that isn’t expensive to heat and my pantry is full. We need to be grateful for what we have when we get down or disappointed at our progress in life:). And realise that no one is drawn to a complainer. If I need to complain I tell my dog. That way I get it out and don’t brood. And she gets an extra treat😆

Great message! It is difficult to do, but find a reason to get up and make the best of it, even if you live in a car or don't make as much as the person you're taking daily motivation from. One thing that helps is to set goals and be passionate and driven to accomplish them. The outcome will always be different than what you originally thought but the fun is getting there. Also, don't leave things unfinished for long periods of time. Don't start the project and never get back to it. Spend every day thinking about it and how to get it done. Long life to her for there is no other can take the place 'o my dear Mother! Eternal Optimist!

I have learned that "If it's going to be, it's up to me." I encourage myself. I have kept a Gratitude Journal since 1981! Every day I see the kindness of God to me. I belong to two walking groups, both free, both have lovely, congenial and caring seniors. We walk in beautiful outdoor settings (yes, even in the middle of a city) in all seasons. I save my energy for things that matter to me. Friendships, luncheons, Line Dancing (once a week, $2.00 nominal cost), crafting, having little adventures, and essential tasks. I know how to refuel my tank with my Faith, rest, small comforts and little pleasues, journaling, learning, humour, fun (I love a good game of Scrabble). I celebrate milestones. Christmas morning this 75 year old was Dog Sledding deep in the winter wonderland of the snowy woods, gliding over the trails, having the time of my life! I say "Yes" to what I love. I release whatever would hinder my joy and independence. Frugality is a game and I plan to win.

Hi Robin, great topic. I just turned 83 a few months ago, so I definitely qualify as “old!” When I look back at what our life was before dementia hit my husband, I realized that I was looking at the things we wouldn’t be doing anymore. I got tired of thinking that way, and decided to look at all the blessings that I have in my life. A cozy place to live, a loving husband, wonderful, loving children, being debt free so with a budget, no serious worries. Of course first thing to be grateful for always is the Lord, who watches over us all. it’s amazing when you focus on the beautiful things that you have in your life it changes your whole perspective and you find yourself waking up in the morning with a smile, looking forward to another day. Blessings to you all. Life is good.

I can not believe and can hardly say the number 80. I don't feel old. For years I have been telling myself that I am 45.. 😂 I truly believe that you are as old as you think. Yes, I have aches and pains ,but I don't believe in whining about it. I do what I can to stay healthy and I am active in my church. I like being around young people and kids because they keep you young. Not only can young folks learn from older people, but we can learn a lot from them. I find that they are willing to share and easily bond with you. Go for a walk, take a drive, walk through the mall, attend church affairs, watch something/someone interesting on KZbin. Thank God for every day and whatever health, strength, and energy you have.

My mother used to complain all the time. I think she had the best life of any elderly person I had ever known. Dad left her well off and her children were there for her to the end. I know that isn’t the case with most elderly women. I’m taking care of an elderly partner and it’s trying at times. It doesn’t allow me the time to cry or feel sorry for myself. You do what you have to do. Your past and present life sounds a little like mine. My favorite motto... I may not know where I’m going, but I know where I’ve been.

Had I been allowed to grow old naturally, I was doing fine. Very active, eating well. Caught the thing three plus years ago. Can't eat, gain weight, sleep well, or have energy anymore.

Great pep talk. Get it done, slow and steady, be wise and ask for help AND willing to accept it when it is offered. I love it, do what can with what you have. Self-talk is a beautiful tool, only the self is able use. Sweet! Happy Friday!

Oh My! Hammer meet nail & drive it in home! So very well Spoken! I’m over here shouting! I am so very proud to have reached the age I am (65 in a few months) I don’t know how to act as I have never been this age before! But the one thing I don’t do is Complain about it! I get up every Day and Count my Blessings! But I have a few friends that are my age an a little older & Oh have I noticed the whining & complaining about the new aches or pains or how their kids can’t find time to come and DO something for them that they are perfectly capable of doing themselves! To the point of sometimes I have to bite my tongue! I try my best to encourage them to get up an do things but am met with a list of complaints as to why they can’t due to age! Retirement to me doesn’t mean retiring to the recliner with the tv remote control! You have to keep moving, learning an doing!

It is great that you have finally said this is the year I fix the basement bathroom but you should not be doing it on your own I don't understand you had your granddaughter and other relatives at your house over the holiday season they could have had that bathroom completed in a day. You could have all worked together to achieve the goal and it would have been much safer for you. There is nothing wrong with making a little list of small projects around your house and when your kids grandkids and relatives come to ask them to give you a hand while they're there. Because we all do get older and we're not as flexible and balance and energy level that we used to

@shirleysmith3068 sure why not they're there they didn't waste the gas or the energy to come over just to help they are there they can enjoy doing something fun they can enjoy good food but they could also help out their senior member of the family tag team it and get through some of the repair list they weren't there just for the day they were there for several days overnight
@victoriapalmer51468 күн бұрын
@jimjones6419 well from the impression I got that is when her family comes to visit her they weren't there just for a day they had stayed overnight they could have tag team it after having a lot of fun and great food they could have gotten down to doing some of the repairs on the list that's what you do when you have senior members of your family and you go to visit them there's nothing wrong with rolling up your sleeves and doing a little work you can balance it with a good visit and good food. Next year skip the gifts you bring your older family member and ask what can I do for you while I am here to help you I know I sure would like help other than gifts

@@victoriapalmer5146Let them relax. They might not want to visit again if the visit turns into work.

what is confab? But you have to realize everyone is growing at their own pace. We can't force our outlook on anyone until they are ready to change, we need to give others more grace. I'm glad you are able to do what you do but let's always extent grace to others.
@jimjones641913 күн бұрын
You might have missed it but she did disclaimer this. Also, I believe there is an explanation of confab in the first confab video.

I am 76 years old, and I use it to my advantage😂 My cardiologist said I had an EKG of a 22 year-old. The next time I went to the dermatologist, I shared with him what the cardiologist said. I then told him if he could just make my face and legs look like those of a 22 year-old. He said if he did that, the young fellows would be chasing me. I told him I could run as fast as them😂🚶♀️🚶♀️🚶♀️🚶♀️In hindsight, I wish I would have said, "That sounds like fun." 😂
