There is one thing I have to mention regarding classic phone contracts: When you choose one of these with a phone included and you want to stay with the same provider for at least another two years after the initial two year period is over, make sure to renegotiate. This way you can either pick a new phone or choose a cheaper contract without a new phone. Otherwise you will keep paying the higher costs without getting any benefit from it.

@simplegermany2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot! 😊 The procedure to porting your phone number varies from provider to provider. Generally speaking though, you need to inform your new provider that you want to keep your current number and you need to ask your current provider to release your phone number. Some require you to fill a form others have an online form. Once you have done both the providers communicate with each other and let you know the date the number will be ported.
@Milaps2 жыл бұрын
@@simplegermany Yeah that is the problem only in a new country when you don't want to lose your number while switching it looks too complicated and obviously it is. because there is no transparency and not clearly communicated anywhere how to do it. For example in India, it is easy for someone to change their number and all the terms and conditions are easily available and accessible for all. And the procedure is the same for all network providers. But anyway, thanks to you I am switching to SIMon Mobile in a few days. where it is easy to keep the same mobile number and I hope no complications arise later on. Everything related to bureaucratic work is unnecessarily complicated in Germany. They should get a lot of UX Designers and make everything simple.

The one with the contract and getting a new phone for free along with it is a smart marketing gag - in the end the basic fee (Grundgebuehr) you pay will be higher than the phone is worth it altogether. On top of that you pay your calls and internet, whatever you used aswell. So in the long run it can get very costly. So attention before you make a decision. Don't get lured into quick decisions by the thought of a brand new shiny flashy mobile. Just to keep in mind of the tricks and psychology of the retail industry

Thank you for a yet again right on time video (sick of Vodafone's exuberant prices :D)! I was wondering, any chance you can make a video on what's currently happening with the prices for literally everything (gas, electricity, petrol, etc)? Anything regular people can do to offset those massive changes (went from 75 eur a month for electricity to 135!). Kind of desperate here, WTH is happening, is it normal? :/
@simplegermany3 жыл бұрын
Hey Anna, yeah the market is going a bit crazy right now and reasons are various, politics, scarcity, more demand, the Covid crisis, etc. To save on gas and electricity (other than reducing your consumption), the best way is to change providers (here is our guide on it: www.simplegermany.com/best-electricity-provider-germany/. Before prices increased so drastically we got a contract with a provider with a guaranteed fixed price for 2 years and have thus not had any increase since (although we know from the news that some providers cancelled valid contracts sometimes because of that reason). If you have a price increase, you have the right to cancel your contract within a certain time frame, so check whether you still have that right and compare to other providers. 😊
@anchouse943 жыл бұрын
@@simplegermany yeah, I think I fell into this situation by thinking that a provider with a one month Kündigungsfrist was a better option (last year, before the new changes), but they also were very 'agile' with prices, so it was immediately reflected in the monthly invoice when shit hit the fan :D changing to a more traditional providers now, huh, who would have thought! :D Thank you, Simple Germany, I really use your website for all these things!

If you need to use the phone right away. I’m from the USA, and we don’t deal with SIM cards here like it’s in Europe. We just get them already installed in our phones. That depends on the airport ☺️ if you land at an international airport like Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Düsseldorf, you may find a telecommunications kiosk once you exit the baggage pickup area. Your best bet is to ask an airport staff member - they usually speak English.

It‘s kinda random if you can get fiber access or not. Sometimes you only have crappy ADSL in a newly build home, or fiber in a really old house. That‘s because providers often install the fiber for „free“ if they deploy it and you make a contract. Otherwise, Vodafone Cable and Telekom VDSL can be very good but it depends on where you live. If you choose Telekom DSL, you can additionally get unlimited 5G for 40€/month.

Tons of important information! Well, I am a bit of that.. how Yvonne said it.. 'junky of high speed' 😂 Not fanatic though, just as long as I feel comfortable and trust my provider about good speed. When I landed in Berlin, Apr. 2019, my phone automatically connected to Vodafone. I just started seeing the logo and the name in the upper left corner, and my internet was Excellent all.the.time., including down in the U-bahn. I remember that, cause I loved seeing the map during the ride. 🙂 Not to mention I was able to live-stream perfect quality from the concert. I really really like this Simon Mobile! Plus, it is Vodafone, so high speed - ✅ 😉 So in Düsseldorf you're happy with Vodafone, while the other two are also not bad options at all, I take it this way.. Will definitely use your links when time comes for choosing and acting smart about one of the most important moves! Oh, and yes, I'll be looking forward to the topic of the landlines. 📞

@@simplegermany You're most welcome! And in every following moment now I'm really all-ears about such important things when it comes to Düsseldorf. Of course your options and choices are very personal, but let's say I take your words with higher consideration. 🙂

Hello. Great tips. Do you know how can I maintain my own number? I came here and would like to switch to an unlimited data contract but have the same number I got with my prepaid sim. Thanks in advance!
@simplegermany2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you need to inform both your new and current provider that you want to port your number (Rufnummerportierung). Usually providers have specific forms to fill out. Hope this helps! 😊

Hi what about Ortel sim card ?
@simplegermany8 ай бұрын
We have no experience with it. There are a million resellers for sim cards in Germany. The ones we talk about we believe to be the most consumer friendly.

Is a common thing to have WLAN on the streets and in the shops ?
@simplegermany2 жыл бұрын
Some cities offer free WIFI on the most popular streets, but it is by far not everywhere. In shops it is really rare.

Quick question: did I get it right that in the long run it is cheaper to buy LIDL in the 1st month, then switch to SIMon mobile with the number from LIDL to pay 8.99 euros instead of 11.99? // I am incredibly thankful for what you guys do. It is very helpful. Thank you!
@simplegermany2 жыл бұрын
Technically that sounds right. Maybe stick with Lidl Connect for a bit longer to be a ‘nice’ customer 😉

Thanks a lot for this video Do you have a referral link for the SIMon ? Because I want to port out my Vodafone number, the base charge is 14.99 (this charge is applicable for Vodafone and Telekom), But with a referral link, it is 8.99

Wow thanks for such a useful content!! Ive been thinking very recently about buying a german sim card. But do you actually know if even Germans with an old contract can call/text other eu-numbers for free? If not, that would be actually the main reason for me to change my number. Wishing all the best aus Leipzig!
@simplegermany3 жыл бұрын
Hey Justyna! Generally speaking, no mobile contract will include a flat rate to call other EU countries form Germany. You would need to speak to the provider you are interested in directly. Every mobile provider offers EU Roaming. But that service is mainly used when you have a German phone number and are in another EU country.
