I also think of dental care as important self care. I dont mind brushing, but I tnd to skip flossing. I now keep dental floss at my favorite chair and near our sofa. I allow myself a quick youtube break during the day where I watch something relaxing (gardening/cooking) while I floss my teeth. I also do the same when watching an evening show.

Thanks Vera for another banger! Self-care has undeniably been co-opted by capitalism to push the consumption of products that people are pushed to acquire once they've "earned" it. Caring for the self goes so much deeper than the surface-level consumerism that's being pushed on us. I very much appreciate your mentioning of deepening your (self)awareness, as that's such an important part of actual self-care. Have a great day!!

Mine are: staying away from people who disrupt my peace (at all costs), praying, reading books, taking care of my nails, herbal tea, & wearing fragrance every single day :) there are others too but those are the my non-negotiables . I am trying to get into decluttering more. The biggest part of all this is shifting your view of self-care from being selfish or a waste of time, to viewing it as 100% necessary. And if you need motivation to do this or even get into a specific health care habits, Google the benefits of that specific habit. This is how I got back into reading and started reading books every day! Love the video. ❤❤

People confuse self care and personal care and believe them to be the same. At times they can be but not necessarily. My non-negotiables are to welcome the day with complete silence for at least 20-30 minutes, a warm mug of lemon water w/ pink Himalayan salt, green tea or matcha latte, daily positive affirmations, a morning walk, exercise after work, a home cooked meal and a clean and clutter free living space. I have been working on reading more and I used to get pedicures every two months but need to restart that. It does make a difference when you do a lot of walking as I do.

Thank you, Vera! I can't always afford my glorious Japanese sencha or my lovely beeswax tealights, but I am so nourished by them when I can. I am fortunate to have a garden where I rent, and as soon as Spring arrives in Canada I pick hellebores and miniature daffodils and put them in small glasses around the house. Fresh garden flowers are a self-care delight. Like you, I love reading and staying home, so visiting the library once or twice a week gets me out and chatting with strangers. I have a warm drink in the afternoon too and ensure I do nothing else as I'm enjoying it. I feel so blessed to live at a gentle pace, to be in silence and to see the beauty of nature. You have sparked my interest in a pedicure, what a neat idea. I hope to join your Patreon community soon. You and your messages are gifts I wish to support. All the best.

I can relate to many of your self care habits. For me at the moment the most non-negotiable ones are 1) A weekly therapy session - it gives me an opportunity to process thoughts and feelings that have arisen during the week, and gives me practical help to tackle difficult aspects of life. 2) Yoga! I've only been doing this for just over a month I believe, but I am stunned by how beneficial it has been for me, physically and mentally and my daily yoga session is something wonderful to look forward to and perfect self-care. 3) Lunch with my husband. Every day we make time to sit down at the dining table to enjoy a nice lunch whilst watching an episode of the Big Bang Theory :-). It's such a lovely part of the day to share together.

My finances. Making sure everything is in order & all the dollars go where they are supposed to go. Besides that....sleep during the day, due to my job. I dont schedule things when I work that night. On days off only. I no longer drink for fun or meeting people, having a long term partner who is on that same mind set super helps. Basic things....brushing out my hair as its getting longer, making sure I shower regularly. Proper clothes. Hygiene. Nothing will give you a bad day like bad sweat. Ugh. The worst ick! But probably the thing that takes the cake above the rest: a clean sink & clean counters. I am a *little* obsessed with my counters and my kitchen sink. Because in the past, I havent had stability for a proper kitchen.....so I lived for awhile at work w/ my job, a hotel. Not a proper kitchen. Or w/ roommates. Or just....something that wasn't mine. And now I am sure to fill the dishwasher & clean counters before I go to bed. That is my biggest peeve. I know my gf hates it but, it is necessary. My anxiety is directly linked to the sink :D you know? Anyway, thanks for letting me share

Breakfast and tea are daily non-negotiables for me. I used to sometimes skip breakfast because it seemed like a lot of effort in the morning especially while dealing with depression. I realized that I was making it too complicated and I was eating things that didn't agree with me. I like smoothies, avocado toast, stuff like that but trying to assemble that on a weekday before work was too much. I switched to Greek yogurt with berry compote (simple to make for the week in a slow cooker) and a banana. Grain is too much for me in the morning and too many raw foods upset my stomach. Cooking the berries makes them easier for me to digest. It's also healthier than the pre-made fruit yogurts with lots of sugar. I pack this breakfast and eat it when I first get to work. Trying to eat it too early doesn't agree with me as it's too cold first out of the fridge and I'm not hungry yet. But if I eat nothing I'm miserable. On the weekends I'm more relaxed and eat what I want. I can do a pastry, cereal, or a more elaborate cooked breakfast. I have tea or coffee first thing when I wake up but I also need a tea break during the workday. It resets my mood and feels like a self care moment.

I just got back into the routine of exercise in my early 60s and it has been really good.

I enjoyed this video Vera 😊, great tips as well.👍 Like you say sometimes the self care is not always immediately obvious, but it is more beneficial for long term results. I agree it’s much easier to keep the flow going on whatever it is you’re doing, because unfortunately if I can’t do my exercise or whatever because I’m unwell, then it’s sooooo much harder to have to restart it again later on. 😳 Obviously I have to try to take care of my health and I now know when I can push beyond something (like a cold),or if I need to listen to my body. If my body says I should rest, then I rest. I’ve found following your previous advice of Reducing screen time, monitoring your calendar to be very beneficial. I find that being in nature, reading and practising self care is not a waste of time at all or just being self indulgent! it’s important as it helps me to get the balance right in as many areas of my life as possible, and this is so important. Thank you ❤
