What actually happened was the first attempt failed because when the bomb hit the bonnet and stayed there until the driver quickly hit it off. It hit civilians instead. The assassin jumped into the river to drown himself but was quickly captured alive. The Archduke and his wife were rushed to the safe point but after reaching there the Archduke wanted to visit the civilians who got injured by the bomb so the people who were looking after them agreed but decided for them to take the longer trip just in case there were more assassins waiting for them. Unfortunately, no one had told the driver so he went the via the short route. What is even more unfortunate is that the driver made a wrong turn. The driver quickly realised this and began to turn around next to a cafe where a young assassin was sitting glumly as he was the only one in the group who knew that the plan had failed as the rest only heard the explosion. He soon looked up to find his target right in front of him and quickly pulled out his gun. He aimed for the Archduke and got him but one of the bullets hit the car and bounced off and straight into the gut of his wife. The Archduke, with major wounds himself, was reported to say something along the lines of "Don't die. Think about the children" before soon dying. His wife was rushed to hospital but died there. When WWI started Princip stated that if he knew that this was the outcome, he wouldn't have done it. Princip was left to rot in jail.

Franz Ferdinand Carl Ludwig Joseph Maria (18 December 1863 - 28 June 1914) was an Archduke of Austria-Este, Austro-Hungarian and Royal Prince of Hungary and of Bohemia and, from 1896 until his death, heir presumptive to the Austro-Hungarian throne. His assassination in Sarajevo precipitated Austria-Hungary's declaration of war against Serbia. This caused the Central Powers (including Germany and Austria-Hungary) and Serbia's allies to declare war on each other, starting World War I.

People can't understand one thing. Such complex things must be viewed from several directions of time and opportunity in Bosnia. As a Bosnian Serb, whose ancestors lived here for thousands of years, I know the details of the genocidal acts of the Austro-Hungarians in Bosnia. Many of them ended up in Austro-Hungarian death camps. The assassination in Sarajevo was a drop in the ice,the whole tense situation in Europe. To understand its origins, they would have to live here in the Balkans at the time. When asked at the trial in the fall of 1914 why he killed the Austro-Hungarian heir to the throne, Gavrilo Princip answered: "The people suffer because they are completely orphans, because they consider them cattle ... I am a village son to take revenge and I am not sorry." is a turning point in what will happen. Princip's close friend Borivoje Jevtic told future historians that "when it comes to research and research of what is in us", the economic and political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina must be understood. Just a few hundred kilometers from Vienna, where modern European culture flourishes, where Gustav Klimt and Sigmund Freud created, the Austro-Hungarian political elite in Bosnia and Herzegovina maintains a feudal serf system. The Bosnian serf, like his father Gavril Princip, paid taxes to the emperor, taxes to the spahis, and was forced to pay the Austro-Hungarian administration. Although this period of European history is known as the Belle Epoque, it was not like that for many. Despite the fact that Bosnia and Herzegovina, where Gavrilo Princip grew up, has ten times more gendarmerie stations than schools, Austria-Hungary presented its government and administration in Bosnia and Herzegovina as "civilization missions". Senior Viennese officials said they were bringing "European culture" and "European values" to areas previously cut off from civilization and culture. "The Austro-Hungarian monarchy is not a 'European missionary' in Bosnia and Herzegovina," but a conqueror and kidnapper. Young Bosnians were aware that the mission of civilization was a cover for undemocratic government. . The Habsburg monarchy boasted of the magnificent facades of the Sarajevo City Hall, but the Young Bosnians noticed that no one was talking about the hundreds of police stations behind the City Hall. The occupier came to "exploit and peel, not raise." The people of Young Bosnia wrote that the occupier also brought "an army of hungry and unscrupulous officials" to divide the state with his colonists, and "tear the locals apart". Borivoje Jevtić pointed out that the assassins came from the ranks of "humiliated and insulted". Chased from the doorstep like a dog, a foreigner in his country, the Young Bosnian felt "where it hurt, "Jevtic noted. The details of his stay in prison have not been confirmed with certainty until today, and they are known only on the basis of the testimonies of individual prisoners and the memories of the guards. The prisoners in Terezin mostly served their sentences in horrible living conditions. They fed them irregularly, constantly tortured them, and if someone got sick - they were left to die rather than be treated. All these "treatments" were many times worse for the "emperor killer". It was rumored that Gavrilo received food only every fifth day, and that he was tortured every day in particularly cruel ways. Allegedly, they put it in a wooden barrel in which a lot of nails had been driven in before, so they would roll it in it while driving nails into Gavrilo tortured body. And one more thing, Gavrilo Princip declared himself a Yugoslav (atheist), and Young Bosnia was not a Serbian organization but a Yugoslav one that sought to unify all southern Slavs in any form. The members of Young Bosnia (many of whom participated in the assassination of Franz Ferdinand) were Serbs, Muslims and Croats.

i believe this one event changed the course of history for over the last century, we dont know what kind of conflict may have arisen had it not occured but many things would have been different, the assassination did lead to WWI which resulted in the rise of Communism, the Treaty of Versailles and the redrawing of maps in europe, that in turn led to WWII which led to the spread of Communism throughout countries like China and North Korea, it led to many other events, like the wars in the middle east, Desert Storm, the War on Terror, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. its an interesting topic to speculate and we can never be sure, but we can certainly know that without this one single event, the course of history over the last 100 years and the world we know today would have been very different. if you wanted to go back in time and change the course of history, it would have to be this event

You missed a bit when the first assassination failed the members of the black hand thought they would get arrested or killed so they bailed and scattered across the city then the duke ordered a different route to escape the black hand but managed to find 1

There is also the fact that one of the assassins tried to kill himself by jumping off a bridge and taking cyanide. Unfortunately for him, the fall didn't kill him so he end up stuck in mud along with the fact that the cyanide failed which led to him vomiting on himself. You can probably imagine the reaction the police had when they found him.

it was actually Austria-Hungary declaring war on Serbia and then Germany declaring war on Russia, very important fact for who was to blame for war when the treaty of Versailles was held and Germany was blamed because they didnt wait for Russia to declare war on Austria-Hungary.

Even though WW1 was always likely to happen it took ONE man to officially start the war. Princip was also to blame why millions of men were killed as well.
@lord1vlada7 жыл бұрын
Nope, it was Theobald von Bethmann-Hollweg and Graf Berchtold who are to blame, along with Moltke and von Hötzendorf. They practicly sabotaged every effort to reach a more or less peacefull solution, because they wanted a war while they had an advantage.

Iv'e scrolled through the comment section and I ha'vent seen a single comment about the times Gavrilo Princip shot the Archduke and his Wife, at the most he only shot 2 times, the first bullet bounced when it the the Archduke and struck his wife in the stomach, the other bullet was meant for the car's driver because he had a feud with ( for some unknown reason ) but it missed, later being tackled by police officers being thrown in jail, slowly dying of Tuberculosis until he did, in 1918. ( or was it 1917 ) For once, somebody get this right. I still love the channel and I subscribed.

@Yuri DeKhed I'm not blaming anybody in particular. I never used the word "blame". No war is inevitable, by the way. War develops because humans make poor choices. Poor choices are not inevitable if wise heads prevail.

It was Mlada Bosna( young Bosnia ), they had Serbs, Croats, and Bosnaks as members. The Black hand, was a seperate group. The bomb thrown bounced off the car and rolled under the trailing car. Archduke Ferdinand's driver intentionally stopped, and it has been suspected he was aware or could of been involved in the assassination plot.

The assassination as used as an excuse, Austria had plans of taking control of the Balkans, get educated.
@theusername45146 жыл бұрын
Even if they had plans to invade this added to it.Many people consider the assassination to be direct reason for WW1 and its not only me that considers this to be MAIN reason.I can tell you're a Serbian or from a former Yugoslavian country.I was pointing out that being proud of that scoundrel is horrendous.If it pleases you go and be proud of a fucking degenerate. And just a note Austria was entirely in its rights to declare war on Serbia.It was perfectly justified by world affairs.
@bogdanzivkovic87116 жыл бұрын
Lol, if the assassination never happened, the war would start a few years later, the Central Powers would still find an excuse to attack someone.
@theusername45146 жыл бұрын
Even if that happened nobody can 100% predict what would've happened.We are all human afterall.Even if some are more wicked than others.
@bogdanzivkovic87116 жыл бұрын
Dude, Austria-Hungary hated Serbia just because there were a lot of Serbs in Vojvodina and Bosnia. They almost started the war in 1908 when we didnt want to accept the annexation of Bosnia. If Princip didnt assassinate him, the war would start in 1920 lets say. Or in 1917 or 1918, during the socialist revolution in Russian Empire.
