In this video I talk about the pros and cons of the Simplehuman rectangular step stainless steel 45L 11.9Gal kitchen trash can. Why buy this $100 or more trash can? Well this is a pricy trashcan but it sure does do a great job. I highly recommend this trashcan to anyone that doesn't mind investing in a high quality trash can.
Pros:

Bought this trash can based solely on this review. The best thing about this can is that you have both the auto-closing lid that always closes and also the larger lid which can be set to stay open. Being able to keep the lid open is so important for food prep, yet so few of these foot pedal kitchen garbage cans are able to do it.

Thanks for the video. I just bought a slim simplehuman trash can and couldn't figure out how to get the bag collar out of the way when lifting the trash bag out. Your video showed me that you had to lift the collar up with more force so that it catches and stays upright. You ended my frustration so thanks!

My mum needs a new bin so was looking at expensive Brabantia ones today, they have similar features - lid doesn't whack into the wall, soft closing, etc... BUT the damned thing is still made of lightweight metal and when you step on the pedal the whole thing shudders and wobbles the same as any $10 trash can from the hardware store. I agree for the price I expected them to be a built sturdier. I wish I could find one like this but made of a heavier plastic or at least weighted at the bottom. Had almost convinced myself to spend US$150 on a bin beforehand but couldn't believe how cheap and nasty it felt when I got into the shop to look at it. Anything can look nice - but it has to actually BE nice to be worth the price.

+Rick Deckard Yes, I have been using glad 13 gallon tall kitchen trash bags. They are the force flex kind but I don't believe that will make much of a difference. They don't fit as tight as the custom size ones but they do not fall down in the trash can or anything like that. Hope that helps!

Yes, regular ones will work fine and are much cheaper. I use Glad 13 gallon forceflex trash bags.

I like this can but.... How about the 2 large holes at the bottom of the can? What if the bag leaks? It goes all over your floor?

Don’t overstuff the trash can unless you use super sturdy trash bags. I just spilled a quarter of my garbage all inside/outside trying to take out the trash bag that ripped; coffee grounds everywhere. I’m trying to figure out how to clean the parts? The lid comes off easily, but the rest I don’t know!

I'm looking for a can that my dog can't lift the lid. I appreciate that you demonstrated you can't lift the flap, but do you think a large dog could nudge open the top?

I doubt it unless your dog is really tall also. The outer edge of the lid takes a little bit of force to open all the way and it is heavier so it would always try and close on the dog versus just flying open.

+CheeseCakeMups Yes, I have been using 13gallon Glad forceflex tall kitchen bags. They are slightly larger than the simplhuman brand but they work perfect still. Don't fall in the can or show from the outside :)

Yes, pretty much any tall kitchen trash bags will work just fine. They might not fit as perfect as the simplehuman brand but I have used Glad brand for many years now with no issues.

It honestly depends on what’s in the trash can and for how long. I don’t notice any fowl smells until after I open the lid so I would say that it holds the smell in pretty well.
