When they eat those blackberries cooked up they will never forget it. I’m in my 60s and I still remember picking them and mother would make homemade biscuits and we would put the hot blackberries on the buttered biscuits for breakfast. It is wonderful memories for you all.

I was born and raised and still live just south of you and when I was a kid I remember my grandfather taking us swimming and he would stop at every blackberry bush on the way and have us pick berries. While we were swimming he would wash the berries in the river and then when we got home my grandmother would make a blackberry cobbler for us. Great memories.

Grandma used to send us out with buckets to pick blackberries promising to make us a blackberry cobbler. We would come back our faces stained with all the berries we ate and give her our bucket. She let us help make the cobbler and there was nothing better. Oh the memories. Your children will always remember.

Get some small buckets and tie "belts" on them to tie around the waist. it frees up both hands to pick with. The kids can have a contest as to who picks the most. (Mom included). It's the way I was taught to pick blue berries. So should work the same.

You need to take more buckets with you and have the kids wear gloves. Then have a contest as to who picks the most. Take a large heavy stick with you and thump the ground hard. Most times if there are snakes they slither away. When walking in the woods I always carry a big stick.

Thanks for your reply. I just recently figured out that I could see and read a direct comment made to me. So if you have sent me a comment before, please know I never knew it. I have had a conversation with the bearded carpenter, who I love his channel, and told him about my very very fond memories of visiting the two story hand hun log cabin that my father was born in in 1907, he was number six out of ten children. This was in Alabama which I only moved from 5 years ago to central florida. It was the most awesome log cabin and we loved to go there frequently and romp in the woods and streams like I see your children doing. My grandfather walked with a cane and he would sit on the porch and try to hook the legs of his grandchildren as they would run by. Believe me with ten children there were always plenty of grandchildren running by. I remember outhouses, smoke houses, the well house that you hand cranked the bucket down into the deep that sometimes came back up with Huge spiders or crickets as well as the water, bathing in the kitchen close to the potbelly stove, wash pots out side with scrub boards, butter churns, smoke houses, corn cribs, wood sheds, chicken coops, underground storage sellers/storm shelters with a complete door standing above ground then a small hill behind it that covered the steep stairs leading down into the ground. Oh make me stop. I’m taking a trip to bountiful. Such good good memories. I see your children and I think what a wonderful childhood you and Gary are giving them. All that, is what I think about when I watch your channel. Know you are doing a wonderful priceless thing. I see your faith in God leading you and I know from experience that when you seek His advice and direction you miss a lot of danger and trouble you can’t go wrong, not that sometimes it looks wrong and God leads another way and that’s call faith in God. I love you all so much. Hi to the children. May God bless you all in mighty ways. Love Jane Esther.
