Nice rig for sure . How about financing something like this ? How is the insurance ? I’m guessing being longer hard to park and unload?
@lizhartel37402 жыл бұрын
Financing all depends on a person's commercial credit. There are a few more hoops to jump thru than if you're purchasing a car, but it can be done. Insurance was fair, however, carrying specialized loads, our insurance is a bit spendy to cover said loads. Parking isn't too bad, some places you have to get a bit creative mostly so you don't get blocked in. We do not dock for loads, we pull a step deck and are loaded and unloaded by forklift or crane. Backing is not any harder than backing any semi, at least not for me. Hope this answers your questions

Nice truck! Can bigger fresh and black water tanks be added? Could stuff be operated using deep cycle batteries until the batteries run down then charged up with the generator? How much does the truck weigh? I’m not interested in becoming an owner operator. I’m an amateur radio operator and looking for a retirement vehicle! Can bigger fuel tanks be installed? I’m curious about your fuel mileage. I want to drive around 68 MPH. What are the rear gear radios of the drive axles? Do you use synthetic oils? How often will you have the oil changed? Will you be using an oil bypass filter? Thank You for your time!!
@lizhartel37404 жыл бұрын
Kris Kkallinn Thank you. I will answer your questions to the best of my abilities since my husband is not available for help at this time. For the fresh water, I know of a few people that have added tanks on their trailers for extra capacity. Without a trailer with you, I am not sure if larger or extras could be added. The black water is a cassette, with one size tank. Most of us carry 2 or 3 tanks just Incase you can not find a station for waste. Batteries: most of the unit can run off the batteries, however the cooktop, microwave and a/c unit need generator or shore power. Weight: fully fueled, water, food and personal stuff around 34000 pounds. I know that fuel tanks can be swapped out on semi trucks and if you did not have step boxes behind them like we added, it’s a possibility. Fuel mileage will all depend on load weight, empty and speed. We can range from 5-8 mpg. I believe, but this one is not up my alley for knowledge, that the gears are 318’s? Yes, we run synthetic oil change around 30-35K miles and use a bypass system. I hope this helps, to the best of my abilities.

Many rest stops have RV dump sites as well as many truck stops. As for water refill, usually at fuel islands you can find water available so long as you have your own hose. Also the RV dump stations have them. There may be some folks out there who would drink or cook with this water, however we choose to carry our own spring water from home for these uses. Specialized freight. Many big bunks run in government, household goods, enclosed car hauling, aviation, trade shows, just to name a few. Maintance is no more than a standard truck really. Heck, we even pay the same for a wash. When you consider how long we stay out on the road at a time, cooking and eating our own food, not paying for showers and far less down time really adds up in our pockets. Balance in check!
@kymmicakez63163 жыл бұрын
Absolutely I had know idea about government nor enclosed cars. I just know weight wise it would mean certain restrictions on loads? Am I correct? Also I never pay for showers with fuel card points on road lol.
@lizhartel37403 жыл бұрын
@@kymmicakez6316 weight of course needs to be paid attention to, but I have been over weight more times in a standard size bunk then in a big bunk. We pay close attention to what we load, where we place our load and weigh when needed. Yes, you can shower for free with a fuel card, but think of the down time and if you are waiting for a shower, that’s even more time wasted. And, once you have your own shower, you think twice about how clean truck stop showers are. Since we are a team, I can make meals going done the road. That saves time and money and most importantly our health.

Where do you truckers purchase your water to refill your water tanks?
@lizhartel37402 жыл бұрын
At most truck stops. On the fuel island, several truck stops also have water spouts. We carry a garden hose to hook up and fill. Oh, and there is no cost! Some rest stops have RV dumps and water also. Winter can be a challenge, Northern states shut off their water so you have to pay attention to your amounts, fill when you can.

A truck (maker of choice) with a day cab and stretched frame is sent to a company names ARI. They build the sleeper part at their shop in Shipshewana Indiana. There are several sizes and some different designs to choose from. They produce models to be sold or one can be custom built for someone. Check them out at legacysleepers.com

There are plenty of single drivers out there who own big bunks. Many opt for a bit smaller size. They start at a 108, 120, 132, 144, 156 which is what we have. Then 168 and 180. Many singles go with 108-132.

Is it legal to have a full length trailer on an extended rig like this?
@SimpleLivin3 жыл бұрын
Yes it's no longer than the set of doubles with a sleeper... Heck have you seen us of triples? Or double 53s?
@kenhiett52663 жыл бұрын
@@SimpleLivin I'm pretty sure those triples and such are illegal in my state, but I admittedly don't know much about trucking. I've been looking for motorhomes recently and your semi ended up in my feed. Never realized rigs could be so well appointed.
@lizhartel37402 жыл бұрын
Truck with a 53’ trailer was 83’ long. Not once have we had an issue with length. This unit is about midsize for what they build and I have not heard of any others having issues either. Trust me, we get pulled into weigh stations a lot more often with these big rigs but it’s a standing laugh that we do so because they just want to see the rig up close. I have had officers step out of the building to do just that. But not for any negative reasons. 😊

@winuscleyne8904 жыл бұрын
To get one is easy to pay for it is the problem,most people have them special deals hauling exclusive until somebody cut the rate,and all of us have in our own mind what’s good pay and what’s bad pay,a truck like this you should be able to pay it of in 5 years ,when I see some banks loan 8 years on a truck,could be way over a million miles and stil making payments on it,but when you run your ass of and put every penny back in the truck,and that’s when you make money,of cours depends what your hauling ,say no to cheap freight,is the kicker..>what is cheap freight you tell me
@StrokerDiesel4 жыл бұрын
@@winuscleyne890 yes paying for one is hard most definitely we have worked on alot of these truck over the years and love them. There will always be some tying to cut rates because they think they can make more money that is no different then any other business. If we was to buy one cash 💸 and do it as a hobby to see the 🇺🇸. @Liz Hartel do you have to run overall length permit since the truck is so long and with a 53ft trailer? I thinking about getting a 389 300 wheelbase with a 53ft stepdeck trailer.
@lizhartel37404 жыл бұрын
No. We measure in at 83ft total with our 53ft trailer, no permits needed. Our wheelbase is 315. My understanding is you can run a 53ft trailer on a 180inch sleeper. Only place you would need permit is Canada

@lizhartel37404 жыл бұрын
We are about 34K truck, trailer and all.our gear. With that we carry 16 jugs of water, each one weighting 56lbs, so there is a lot of extra weight. The trailer is a 53 foot, total length is 83 feet. Have never had a problem with the length in any state.

The width is 79.9 inches without the mirrors. Ford Motor Company sells 850,000 full-size pickups a year, and has done so for the past 50 years.

Was it factory customized for you or you had someone do it for you and what percentage did the upgrade increased your insurance?
@lizhartel37404 жыл бұрын
This model is mostly how ARI builds them. We added a few changes, but due to time, which we did not have much of, we could not change much. As for your insurance question, I really couldn't put a percentage on it. We had a 2018 Peterbilt 579 with an 80 inch bunk prior that we were paying insurance on at approximately $400/month less. This amount also reflects what we haul , with specialized freight, we do pay higher so keep that in mind. Sorry I do not have a better answer for that.
