Simple Living Alaska

Жыл бұрын

Alaska's spring days are filled with seasonal chores and summer preparation. One day may be snowy and blustery, and the next a full day of sunshine. We tend to vehicle maintenance, a burn and address bones in our freezer. We couldn't think of a better way to spend the week.
We appreciate you tagging along for our Alaskan adventure 😀
Thank you for watching and supporting our channel! 💙

I have been watching for a few years now. Rarely do I comment on anything. I accept and enjoy the story, videography, and general vibe. What has endured and what I get the most from your videos is the overall journey you take together as a couple. Everything you do is as a team, life partners, husband, and wife, and best friends. This is a great continuing story I love watching every time you post. Bonus plus, handyman tips, homesteading/gardening, cooking skills and just getting sh*T done.

I have three favorite You Tube channels that post on Friday. The question to myself is which one do I watch first? My #1 is Eric and Arielle. So, why do I save them until last? Because I want to enjoy every second of video showing how they live their life in absolute pure, raw beautiful nature. They really are one of a kind. I always save/watch the best for last! I know others have said this but, they live the life others dream about. I have also come to understand that it is, without question, extremely difficult and challenging. Thank you both for all that you do to bring each video to us.

I don't know quite why but I got nostalgic and a bit emotional looking at the shots of the old homestead. Some really great times were had there. It is exciting to see all the new projects you have planned for these coming years. I couldn't help thinking of the line from "Ada" in the movie "Cold Mountain" about the aggressive rooster who sounds like "Spaz" "I despise a floggin' rooster," Ruby tells Ada, snapping the rooster's neck. "Let's put him in a pot." The burger at the end made me drool.

My little story of my chickens. I'm 70 now, but when I was around 5 or 6 years old, I had chickens my Dad brought home from his cousins place. I loved those chickens. I came home from church with my Uncle and Aunt, walked in the front door and asked my Grampa where my Dad was. He said he's in the back yard with your brother. I went out the back door and there were all my chickens screaming and flopping with no heads and my Dad and brother with axes and a stump. I stood in the middle of that and screamed and screamed. He picked me up and ran my back in the house. That night they had chicken for dinner, where I told my Dad I would never eat chicken again. I don't know how long I didn't eat chicken. Then in my 20's I had a few pet chickens. One was a rooster named Roo. His coloring was just like your Roo. I loved that rooster. My mind has a hard time separating food from pet.

You're showing GREAT ADAPTABILITY to a new environment, and your love of animals demonstrates that even the impossible is impossible. One thing to consider is to keep your bees in a lean-to type of set-up and throw some straw on the ground in extreme weather. Build up ice blocks as a kind of mini-fortress to block the wind. You may need to keep the bees a little close to home (chick-coop) area. I bet you anything, you'll be very successful with your beezees.

I do not comment on videos that I watch, but I do have to say I enjoy watching your channel and look forward to each new video that you post. I like the way you present your content, not a lot of talking but enough to engage your audience, beautiful camera work as well. I see so many popular channels where the people just stand in front of the camera and talk and talk and talk, its like they like to hear themselves speak. I don't watch anyone who does that. Also no sponsorships that you push that would break up the greatness of your content. You remind me of my husband and me when we were young and strong (we still are even though were 63.) We still are working just as hard on our farm side by side building and gardening and caring for our animals. Only thing different is we did not have the courage to step out and move to different location. My son who now lives in Alaska and spends most of his time way out in the bush for over half the year, is the reason I love all things Alaska. Your channel helps me kinda sees what he might be experiencing, Thank you so much

I know when push comes to shove sometimes you have to make a difficult decision. Spazz served his purpose and had a great life with you guys. The health and comfortability of all your chickens is more important than just one. Either way it is still difficult to lose a pet.

I always made the eggs and toast for my kids, and they called them "birdie in the nest". Now they're grown and make them for their family. I love how you two work together to get things done. I'm looking forward to what you both are doing next!

Easy way to store chicken food in metal trash cans. They are cheap and mouse proof. Also chuck some oxygen absorbers in it to it doesn’t go bad. ❤

I have been watching you two for few years and love every video. Eric sir please use a jack stand when you have your truck up in the air. 9 years ago i had a car fall on me and crush my chest and crack my skull, broken jaw, 4 broken ribs, crack sternum took 8 months to semi recovery. I can say i watched my self crawl out from under the car from above. I shouldn't be here Eric and as i type this tears in my eyes. My wife and kids, grand kids came so close to losing me. I pray 🙏you read this and take note about it. and yes that burger looked so good. Rock on guys and thanks for sharing your dreams and mine.✌

Are you going to keep your other house, rent or sell it? I don’t remember hearing your decision about it. Do you still have your other little cabin too? I enjoy watching all the places and modes of transportation to get to them that you use. I’m happy you love your new place, and especially an indoor toilet! I’m really happy for you two.

Wow, so happy for you guys and your new spot. Never apologize for using all of the animal. I've had chickens and some roosters are so aggressive that they have actually killed hens. Glad you are able to make use. I also cannot get over how incredibly robust Bandit is for an elder dog. You are definitely doing a lot right :)

In another life, Eric would be a food critic who only gives 10 out of 10s on anything he eats and I think that's very wholesome of him. Love watching all these little and big projects that are turning your house into a home that functions the way you need it to. I'm so excited for all your building projects going forward! Also, the practical knowledge the two of you have accumulated never fails to astonish me. Finally, I loved the trail cam footage! Some very interesting critters there - Eric with the snow plow made me laugh out loud.

I wanted to let you know that I did construction in the winter as the ground is still frozen. We would do concrete in the winter. Even when logan was in the negative 20 and negative 40 degree weather. I do know you will want to dig deeper and get a packing bed down it should be sand and rocks so you have a hard surface to put your forms in. The other thing is we used heaters and pads to keep the cold off the concrete. I am not saying you have or haven't done this but build a stick frame for doing concrete that you can heat up and I would do a small spot to see if it works for you during the winter. I do hvac and you actually are amazing me with what you are doing with heat. Also take your stuff off your tractor and don't weld on your tractor if you can help it. When doing bulbs go get some cone spray for a mig welder and put on the threads and it protects splatter from sticking to threads. Oh take off jewelry if you weld the sparks will go into your glove and stick to your jewelry. I did it once and new better. I want you to be safe and not have the pain I went through. I like watching the things you guys do. I would love to see if you make a gravel pit so you can save material on your property and use the land to your benefit more
