So happy for you with the new property! CAUTION: when you mentioned about the "warping" of the floor around the woodstove.. I remember years back a friend had that problem, his cabin burned down..cause was in part due to missing and/or powdered firebrick. I'd also recommend putting fire backer board on the backside and definitely the floor...just FYI, all the best.
@edpoints1127
@edpoints1127 Жыл бұрын
Easiest way is cement board on the floor and both walls. 3 - 4'×4' pieces should work fine. One piece on the floor to stop sparks and dissipate some heat.Put spacers behind the wall pieces at least 1/2", 3/4" strong is better. It actually creates a vacuum with a gap at the bottom, as the cement board warms up cooler air is drawn up as the warmer air rises. It keeps your walls from getting too hot. Also around 27:26 ish, you definitely need fire bricks. I can't tell the condition of the remaining ones, some are missing and some are cracked. Not a problem to ignore. I believe your next moose will be harvested in the yard by the look of the place.

Such a beautiful piece of property! So much open space, and the trees! If you have had it as long as you say, I'm sure you two already started sketching out were you want to put the garden, the chickens, the bees.... I am so excited for this, but I'll miss the little swampy cabin too. Does the dry ground mean we might try for a root cellar again? Look foward to all the fun and exciting future projects!!

Nice cabin. We, too, have a Blaze King wood stove. I think we have had it for about 20 years now. It still looks like new. We have had to replace the bricks once and have done a few other maintenance items. Before we bought it my husband researched stoves and decided this was the best for us. It sure has been. If it is really cold outside, 20 below zero, we have to fill it twice a day. If it is above zero, the wood will usually last over 24 hours. Ours has a really big fire box. It heats our 2 story 1200 square foot home. We don't use kindling. The first time we start it for the season we fill our fire box full, then light a Diamond Strike-A-Fire, and stick it in the wood. It always starts. We have an ash pan under our stove. I let the wood burn down to mostly ash with a few coals, clean the ashes out, and then fill it full with wood again. The few little ashes left always gets the new wood burning. It makes it so nice to barely have to load the stove with wood.

Well my compas was off a bit in previous video guessing where you were headed with the conex. If it's where I'm thinking ( non discloser to respect your privacy), looks like a homerun. Thinking the trade off of cooler winter temps will be well worth the gains. More land, better land, less people, a home run for hunting and recreational access and not any further distance to outstanding fishing. Congrats to both you hard working people, much deserved success. Can't wait to see what you guys do with the place and really looking forward to some more hunting and fishing adventures. Great content that is very positive. The world needs more Erics and Ariels. Best of luck on a smooth transition and thanks for taking us along for the ride.

Lived in similar conditions and places since 1977 . Just saw kinda a neat way to split like 4 to 6 inch thick rounds by approximately 18 inch long logs on line . They used an old truck tire laid on its side and put about six cut to length logs on end in the middle of the tire so to be held together while splitting them with a maul . Another way I used to split wood is to stand the logs on end on flat ground in a line of four or more and go down the line while splitting them with a maul . Went pretty quick this way because I wasn’t constantly picking up the maul for each individual log . Hydraulic splitters are nice too .

Those jackets are almost as sweet as those doggies. Awesome, a beautiful new property for the boys to explore. Can't wait to see the garden you can plant here.

Congratulations on the new cabin! I agree, the sky is the limit. It looks as comfy as your current cabin and it has bonus amenities. Keep up the great work and congratulations on your expansion! Hugs to all the furry babies!

Wow what an awesome place! Has all the goodies to go along with it (wood shed, plumbing, shed, extra land!). Could always add on to the property in time 🥰

Loved this video! I have the same old tundra you do! Except ours started off white, when we turned over the odo we knew rebuilding wasnt a thing we wanted to do anymore, so we swapped a 5.3L LS crate engine, danas, and now my wife stole it as her adventure rig, she has a small pop up camper, and she made a custom cycle carrier for her tw200 that can be removed from its L and R bolt in to the custom bumper she made too. She repainted a nice red color, and its had a new lease on life! I was left without a truck hahaha. I have traveled in a 4x4 high roof sprinter van for the last 5 years, I travel and teach law enforcement, to civilians, on ranges. And as I have officially retired from that, decided, oh what the heck! I just sold a 68 mustang fastback, and an older landcruiser I have had for 35 years hahaha, and decided a F550 would be my next rig. So its being built out as Id like, bags, dually converted to singles, flat utl bed with under cargo storage, so I can load a 4 season artic fox camper on and off as I want! And as luck would have it a friend whos here in vegas for the sema auto show will be moving back to japan full time as his aging parents have entered their 90s, we will be buying his 5500 ram, regcab, dually as our new hauler rig! Wife and I are enjoying the video! And man, thats alot of wood!

I could never to what you all do… I mean maybe for like a weekend but not full time. I am spoiled lol. I do learn quite a bit from y’all though and like to watch how others live.
