Hi Ariel. Former greenhouse worker here. In order to utilize the space above the windows you can run a piece of galvanized pipe all the way across the wall (Bracing it between the windows) a few inches out. It will allow you to grow herbs & spices, and aloe in hanging baskets all winter, then hang them outside in the warmer weather. It wont cover up the whole window so the seedlings will get light.

I love your Yorkshire pudding kefir desert/ breakfast. Makes yummy single serving chili bowls too. Seeding room is looking beautiful. How will you keep the moister out of this space to prevent mold or fungus from forming, at the base of your plants or seedlings. Today I’m just glancing through some seed catalogues even though I have collected most of my seeds from my gardens last year. I wanted to recommend to you a great new tomato seed to try in your greenhouse this season. It’s called Oxen Heart in English. It looks like a Roma paste tomato on steroids. Fist size, very meaty and high producer . Often goes by its heirloom French name Coeur Boeuf or Cour Di Bue with average weight of 9-10 ounces or 230gm. 28 grams = 1 ounce . Planting my geranium seeds under my lights in early March. Great video TY. 🩷🙋♀️👩🌾🪴

Eric, I think those abrasions are actually lime burns - I work with lime and when working on site in the rain once, kneeling on scaffolding (wearing waterproof trousers) the lime made it through the fabric and I ended up with 'pitted' knees. The lime will carry on burning inwards if left, so we always rinse any skin that has been exposed with a dilute vinegar wash to neutralise it.
@SimpleLivingAlaska11 күн бұрын
Thank you, I had a feeling they were chemical burns from when he didn't have gloves on. Do you recommend two pairs of gloves? When we did our cmu wall the mortar mix eventually got through the gloves.
@GregZ-o7i11 күн бұрын
20 year cement finisher here, get your self some good rubber gloves like the fuel delivery guys wear if your hands are sensitive to the mortar, and get a tin of udder balm that farmers use for the cows, it keeps your hands from drying out and cracking from handling wet cement products. Love watching the both of you and your many projects. Keep up the good work
@grandlifeatcamptwocedars177511 күн бұрын
My husband is a stonemason and he has those hand burns all the time, especially after tucking with the bag. You can wear gloves, but he never does because then he can’t manipulate the bag as well.
@GregZ-o7i11 күн бұрын
I was the same way, gloves make it clumsy, and it always starts with the fingertips from handling the block, brick or tile, then you add mortar to that and you got concrete burn, and it's not pleasant, I've gotten it on my legs even from wiping my Mag and margin trowel on my pants

There are so many other homesteader tv or social media programs, but yours is so unique. I understand that Alaska is still very much frontier conditions in some respects, but a lot of the other programs seemed to do the bare minimums in their building projects. You guys always, do it so professionally and everything look so durable and well made. You take such good care of your tools and equipment. But you guys also always add some bit of sophistication to your projects. Very classy. Appealing to look at. You mentioned in the beginning of this episode that you seldom get to slow down enough to enjoy or appreciate the projects. I think that’ll obviously be very different with the seed room. It looks gorgeous. (I do try to take a break in my projects to enjoy the use of something I’ve just finished. Right now mine is a monster work table an industrial Uv printer is going on. Using it in the meantime to build some barn doors.) But yeah, this is an enjoyable and informative diversion through the week watching you guys work. Be safe while you do it.

the cookie wall is so gorgeous. I also love the reflection of it in the windows at night. I think epoxy would be cool as an alternative to the mortar. cant wait to see it all dry and sealed! Such a cool feature.

Beautiful work. I always say I don't think there is anything the 2 of you can't do. I love it.

This is the classiest seed room I’ve ever seen. What a pleasure it will be for you to spend time in this space! Looking forward to the next chapter in its journey to seed/plant production.

That cookie wall looks great. Wasn’t so sure about the idea when you started, but the result is top notch. You two make such a good team.

I love you two, and have watched you from the very first Alaskan video. As a Mosaic Artist, this was painful to watch. You definitely chose the hard way this go round; but, as always, you aced it in the end! If you're ever doing a project like this again, please let me know. I'm happy to fill you in on the mosaic way! Luv Ya Both ❣
