The aiming notch on the side of the loop where the band is connected. The way your band is installed, how can you see the aiming reference notch if the band covers it when drawing? Will it not hold the bands in good enough if they're installed so they aren't folding over the fork and covering the aiming notch?
@betweenfiveandseven Жыл бұрын
The bands are flat. The latex takes the shape of the notch. (Take a latex glove or a deflated balloon and stretch it over any item. It will take the shape of it and you can still see the physical details of the item ). That said: I don't necessarily use the notch as my point of reference to aim with. I use the farthest to the right point where my band makes contact with the fork. I'd imagine a lot of people would use the notch as their point of reference, but I'll also guess many folks find some other spot or even just the bands themselves to be easier or more accurate for them.

@@betweenfiveandseven Thanks a lot for the quick reply. I reviewed some pics of slingshots on the website & they don't appear to be strung with the band folding back over like that. I can see where that would give more assurity the band won't slip out. Do you think it's needed or is this how the instructions say to do it? I was interested in finding a way to attach some fiber optic tubes and if it must fold over the outside like that for some reason it would make it impossible to use for night shots easy with the fiber optic tubes. If you know or might try it I'm very interested to know. Thanks for any help you can provide

Why did you choose the LT head over the XT model heads? I'm trying to figure out which I want but don't understand the pros/cons I guess. I'm wondering if maybe the hammer XT slingshot head would be better for the fiberoptic aiming point references you discussed as well?

@Player_Review8 жыл бұрын
Everyone that eats meat should go hunting at least once in their lives. It gives a whole new appreciation to meat, so when you buy it from the supermarket, you can appreciate the animal a bit more since you've been a part of the process before. This of course extends to processing your own game, instead of just dropping it off at the butcher to do all the cuts and package for you (though this is a great convenience and we did this with a buffalo and with a elk, we've processed all of our deer). That said, never hunted with a slingshot, though my father used to guard the chickens in the backyard by slinging house cats (probably all tomcats) that would try to take them.
@betweenfiveandseven8 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more. Hunting has always been part of my life (and I was lucky enough to grow up in agriculture) and I really wish I could help folks who don't really quite grasp how meat ends up on their table understand the whole process a bit better. If every meat eater had to kill, process, and eat at least one critter they consume in their life time, I think they would appreciate it on a completely different level.

Only found one place selling them in the UK and they are £96 or $107 . Not surprisingly there’s been some changes since the 80’s when I last had them. So they ship them with a basic beginner’s power band. Leaving the people who know what they are doing, to install powerful possibly dangerous in novice hands Bands. I’m impressed by all the improvements of the last few decades. I’m thinking they are equal or more powerful than many break barrel air guns. We are restricted to under 6ft lb air pistol and under 12ft lb air rifles. Crossbows along with air guns are restricted to use on private land and your accountable for possessing and using an illegal firearm if on public land. Catapults are not restricted unless you are intending to use it as an offensive weapon. These Catapults look to have the power to put rabbits in the pot. Enjoying your video.

Yes those indents in frame are the front sights and your anchor point is the rear sight. I find I get the best accuracy when shooting the slingbow to hold on the indent closest to the whisker bisquit, so it's like on a 45% angle not 90%. I think it's more accurate because that hold is just more natural and thus more comfortable with this awesome unit. Try it, you'll like it. Increasing the size of the pull tab greatly increases the accuracy and thus the fun factor...just giving yourself a bit more material to grasp makes all the difference in the world with this baby. Hard to put this down once you start shooting...pretty soon the fish will just die of fright when they see somebody holding one of these at waters edge, hahaha!!!

Which slingbow u think is stronger , chief AJ or this one ?
@Jazzberrytpt16 жыл бұрын
The reason for weak bands in the begining when you get the slingshot is because most people are probably new to adult slingshots. As you get better and develope your own technique, you will go up in stronger bands. I have 4 of their sling shots and they all come with weaker bands to begin with. I have the new Hammer XT and it comes with powerful black hunting tubes.

I know this is an older video, but as an upgrade to your idea of adding a fiber optic rod to the sighting notch. Just drill a hole from the top, in the center of the sighting notch, and screw in a tritium shotgun bead. It'll be lit all the time with no worries about there being enough ambient light to light up a fiber optic rod. It'll also be in your sighting notch you normally use, and not off to the side. You could also add more to either side if needed.

hows the hunting going with this was wondering if you have used the chief aj hfx as im at a loss which one to get between the two any thoughts you have would be welcome,only thing is the hammers bands heavy ones are 39lb where as the hfx are 50lb
@betweenfiveandseven8 жыл бұрын
I don't have a Chief AJ, so I can't compare. I will say though, that archery is a big topic. Arrow speed isn't 100% about how many pounds of draw. This video was way too long so a few things tested didn't make it in, but during testing I compared The Hammer directly to a 50lb recurve bow. The bow was able to get ~500 grain wooden arrows around 185fps and The Hammer with heavy bands was able to get ~400 grain carbon fiber arrows around 185 fps. If they are wearing the same broadhead, they are pretty much the same amount of deadly traveling the same speed. I hope that provides some perspective while you consider your choice.
@deansmith37568 жыл бұрын
really thats very helpful i thought the heavy bands were only just 40lb draw weight and about 170 fps where as aj states his 50lb bands only hit 186 fps so it would make the hammer beter draw to fps with the ability to still either shorten the bands to get more draw and fps or make even stronger bands would you agree
@betweenfiveandseven8 жыл бұрын
The weight of the arrow can be matched to the bands just like the size and weight of round ball ammo can be matched to slingshot bands. The sweet spot I found with the lighter bands was a 29 1/2 inch carbon fiber weighing 300 grains with a 75 grain head for a total of 375 grains. that got me around 165-168 fps consistently and at least a few 170+. With the heavier bands, the sweet spot seemed to be a 31 inch carbon fiber (31 inch leaves me a little room on my draw also just as a by the way) weighting 315 with a 100 grain head for a total of 415 grains. That got me pretty consistent results around 185 fps when I did everything right with my draw and release. When I was taping this video, my chrony was giving me trouble but I have replaced it. I've chonographed a few indoor shots since I got the new one and I'm pretty satisfied my numbers are close at least for my draw. Shorter or longer arms make a significant difference, so ymmv.
@deansmith37568 жыл бұрын
sorry about all the questions im a short guy only 5ft6 draw about 28 inches but i could shorten the bands to get similar results i presume i was leaning towards the aj slinbow mainly beecause there are mor videos about his in a hunting context taking deer and hogs and i hunt in europe so was lookiung for something competent enough to take hogs at 20 yards as im confident in my shooting and aim as im a former marine and have also shot alot of bows but wanted a new challenge so wantd a good hunting slingbow
@betweenfiveandseven8 жыл бұрын
I don't mind the questions at all. I wish I was able to answer regarding comparing the chief aj and the hammer. If this comes down to do I think hogs can be harvested with shots out to 60 feet with the hammer: Yes. I've produced pretty close to identicle penetration with the same tips on arrows between a 50lb recurve and the hammer and I have seen a lot of big game as large as elk and moose taken with 50lb recurves.

I'm about to order one as a late Christmas gift for myself. Your review definitely helped convince me! Kicking myself in the ass for not getting it when the full Hammer set with the slingbow fork and bands was on sale last week for $79.99, but it still seems like a good $100 spent and plenty of slingshot for anything that I'd need any time in the foreseeable future. I'm no serious hunter by any means, so I don't need anything too crazy. I'll probably try to hunt with it at some point, but mostly just to target shoot and have fun. Seems like a great value to get a good slingshot and slingbow all in one. Hammer seems like an excellent intermediate level slingbow as far as what I'd use it for as well as a nice versatile slingshot by any standard. I dig the optional removable wrist brace as well as the option of using either flat bands or looped tube bands, and of course the ability to swap it to a slingbow with ease. The accessory rail is something I haven't seen on much in this price range. I'll definitely end up try out putting a fishing reel on there and bringing it to the lake in the spring and summer.

All I can say is Yes. It's worth a hundred bucks. It's a game getter (I've eaten a lot of cottontail rabbit since I bought this). And, it's just really fun to shoot. As a slingshot or as a slingbow, this was the easiest frame to learn. It's stable and a good fit for almost any hand.

How many pounds does the hammer xt slingbow go up to? Can you hunt larger game like deer or elk?
@betweenfiveandseven4 жыл бұрын
They sell a couple of different weights of bands for it and you could certainly make your own bands as heavy as you are strong enough to operate. As to the available bands... Yes. They will launch a broadhead tipped arrow with enough velocity to penetrate some pretty big critters. All of the same considerations apply as they do with a compound or recurve bow (such as arrow weight, arrow length, your physical draw length, tip weight, etc etc etc). Shot placement and how close you have to get to be successful is up to the skill you can develop with it with practice and your natural abilities.

People have problems with accuracy due to size of pull tab...take out the pull tab...trace onto paper...increase size by 50%... Guesstimate where to put holes... Trace bigger pull tab onto suitable piece of leather, cut out and attach to d loop and have loads of fun without the blisters... A bigger pull tab allows a much better, secure grip and you can now easily pull back to full draw and let her rip with full confidence....trust me....if you do this you will be able to shoot 100-150 arrows in a single session without blisters and better accuracy....not to mention loads of fun!!!!!,,,When you got right size pull tab made....trace & cut out 4-5 extras and you will be set for a long time to come...This unit is just TOO MUCH FUN !!!!

Sorry I missed this one and I'll be happy to answer that: I'm shaking because I'm old. By the time I was 50, I had to give up on doing things like detailed solder work because I shake a little and my eyesight isn't what it once was. When holding a 20-45# (or greater) pull on a bow or a sling, a bunch of small muscles just can't do what they used to do keeping everything steady anymore.

Because hasenpfeffer is delicious. I have beef, pork, elk, deer, moose, trout, antelope, chicken, pheasant, duck, grouse, and goat in my freezer right now. I tend not to discriminate against protein sources. Have a look at a few of my other videos and you'll discover that I was literally raised in a log cabin 20 miles from the nearest town. But I have to say: That has nothing to do with the fact that I hunt. Just until recently (the farm belongs to someone else as of about a year ago), we gave permission to pretty close to a hundred town folks a year to hunt our property. They harvested deer, elk, moose, black bear, mountain lion, antelope, pheasant, grouse, huns and dove, among other things likely including the occasional cottontail.
