Today, we are going to check out the simplest and cheapest security camera setup that you can do to monitor the outside of your home. This is also the best option if you don't want to screw anything or drill holes like if you live in an apartment or rental. We will be using the Eufy C24 Indoor SoloCam and using it with a window mount and we will be checking and testing out 2 types and brands.

I've been using an Eufy C24 indoor camera to provide 24/7 recording of the front of my house for almost two years now. I didn't bother using a camera mount, I just stuck a thin strip of double sided tape around the front of the camera and stuck it straight on the window. It's provided a great backup to all my external battery cameras.

Literally fitted a silicone mount for the wyze today. Works great to stop any Shadows/ reflections. I can forgive the wyze of shortcomings as the starlite sensor outweighs the AI for me. Keep it up bud

I've been using two C24 cams for my front yard from convergent angles for about a year, and a third for my backyard for the last 3-4 months, and it works great. I don't use the window mount, however, because you can't angle it. Instead, I'm using a clear L bracket mount on the window. Paired with endurance 128 GB SD cards, they offer 24/7 continuous recording with much, much, much further detection range. To address IR glare, I've configured them for only normal color video and compensated using bright daylight sensing LED outdoor lights and motion activated spotlights, which all work more than great. I have notifications set only for humans, although motion video recording is configured for all motion. This records cars, people, animals, and (occasionally) trees and plants on windy days. All in all, they work excellent and are backups for my Homebase 3 cameras and sensors, which sometimes fail to detect prowlers and deliveries until they are point blank. It gives me some additional warning, especially late at night when I have alarm enabled.

Thank you for these camera through window videos, it’s a great alternative for people who don’t want to deal with drilling holes through walls but still want to setup a camera to keep their home safe. I’ve noticed you used an Overlite on your first video to help recognize faces, and then changed it with a Litom solar light for an update video. I was considering a solar light, but I’ve noticed they are very bright and overexpose faces when I approach my front door. Would a Ring Solar steplight work for this setup, considering it casts light downward? Another issue with solar lights is that they would not turn on sometimes if it’s not completely dark, like when porch lights turn on when motion is detected. Could the Ring solar steplight be synchronized to turn on when the video doorbell detects motion, to help identify faces better? Thank you, your videos are really helpful!

The most significant advantage to video survalence is the visual deterrent they provide. I believe a window-mounted camera is way less effective from a deterrent and survalance perspective-just my 2 cents.

I use the separate IR emitter lights outside for cameras. Lights up area with the non visible light, so can monitor and wildlife visitors. Seems to help keep bugs from the camera. Dont want to scare off the wildlife. Can see people really well.

@@wattsobx i use the following. It is almost too bright. I used a very light window frost spray to diffuse it. Probably if it was further away but limited on space. Would not go ANY bigger or it will wash out picture with too much light. This is acommon wavelength i think for most cameras but check yours. They really light up the area. And a lot less bugs at camera with IR lights off on it. Check to make sure you have option to turn off yours Univivi IR Illuminator 90 Degree Wide Angle 8-LEDs IR Infrared Light 850nm Infrared Illuminator for Night Vision IP67 Waterproof Outdoor for Security Cameras

I have a couple C24s window mounted. I found a different adhesive mount but same idea. It wasn't easy but I removed the stands. I wish there was a nondestructive way to do so. They work well for areas that have light, as you said the IR lights are useless with double pane windows.

large diagonal cutters, chewed up the plastic near the pivot. I left the metal part. Not eloquent but looks better without the stand hanging there. I used some adhesive mount from amazon to stick them on the windows. 2 for $8.

I can use Wyze without a subscription just record continuous to the SD card and when it generates an alert still image I can go to that point in the video to see the video footage.

Yes, definitely you can..the only thing and it depends where or what the camera is monitoring is that you might get a lot of false alerts because it will notify you of all motion... and it also has a 5 minute cool off on the notifications.

I might put this in my garage side window. Currently there's a block of wood blocking the window but I could remove that and put blinds instead and have the camera attached to the glass so I can see on that side and confirm my side gate is closed.

You don't have to but you will be getting reflection glare from the window.

When you did your testing through the glass window, is this a double pane window or single pane. I'm trying the 2C camera through a double pane window and motion detection will not work.

Double paned... If you are trying out the Eufy Cam 2C camera or any battery powered camera (uses a PIR sensor), it will not work through glass. Wired or plugged in cameras are the ones that will work.

Could you please tell me how direct sunlight would affect the cameras performance? We have a front window that I would like to put a camera in, but it faces west and gets direct sunlight each day from around 5pm to sunset.

It has been fine. This setup I have in this video gets the morning sun everyday. No issues yet.

Lifehackster, I figured out how to remove the base. There is a little notch at the bottom where the camera (black part) meets the body (white part). You need to pry that open, preferably with something that won't scratch it all up. It is a little difficult. Continue all the way around and when it all comes out, you will have access to a tiny screw that holds the ball socket to the body. Simply unscrew and base will come out. Then just pop the parts back together and you're good to go. DO NOT get rid of base, however, since it has the QR code for the camera on it, plus it can be re-added later if you need it. It looks much better in the window mount now!

Hey man, what sensor is inside the cam? i cant find the info? does yours really take snap shots or record through the glass when detecting motion? EDIT Ok so you said its a visual sensor- but online it claims a pir sensor. Where is this info? please let me know.

Most if not all plug in or wired security cameras use camera based detection or what the camera sees plus their AI. Battery powered cameras uses PIR sensor which will not work thru glass.
