Reminds me of my high school before 12th grade. The entire 4th floor had Truealerts on continuous, even in the classrooms. Those were on a 4010 that was installed in the early 2000’s when the new addition was built into the school. The 4010 was tied into the original 4002 panel which had 9838 horns on 4903-9101 strobe plates (also on continuous). Over the summer after my junior year, the entire system got replaced to be fully addressable and a 4100es replaced both the 4002 and 4010.

Oh wow, continuous horns! Unfortunately, that is a pretty common sight in my area. For some reason, every Simplex system in my area that was installed from the 90’s to the mid 2010’s has a continuous coding on the horns. Obviously, they use Simplex devices, but some systems have Wheelock devices because they are cheaper/have better options in certain situations. This reminds me a lot of my elementary school which had both mechanical horns in most of the building but TrueAlert’s in the portables. They also have a 4007ES.

@TheCarson1164 күн бұрын
New intro huh? I just noticed: have you given up using the pound/number symbol in your titles? (for whatever reason) Good old non-ES TrueAlerts: nothing like 'em to say the least! (especially since they have that classic & in my opinion _much_ better low-pitched sound that TrueAlertES devices just don't have) Nice to see at least one 4903-series device on that system too! Why continuous though? Them panels take _forever_ to reset don't they? (can't imagine why honestly: one would think it would be as simple as _very_ quickly checking all the connected points for alarms & then resetting if there are none, which given the speed of modern electronics shouldn't take long at all) 1:49 Is that cage around that exit sign _really_ necessary? 2:58 Took a little while for the TrueAlerts to kick in there didn't it? (for some reason) 3:19 Ah yes: the good ol' dustout: surprised that's not standard for every detector you test.
@aerhardt4 күн бұрын
Simplex panels appear to reset slower than many other panels, but that is just because they don’t show the normal screen until they are completely done initializing. Most other panels show the normal screen or maybe have a trouble (but still appear to be reset) well before they are done initializing. Honeywell panels are probably the biggest example of this. You are right, though. With modern electronics, it shouldn’t take that long. The problem is, fire alarm panels aren’t using modern electronics. At best, they are using 10+ year old electronics that weren’t very fast to begin with. 2:58 SmartSync TrueAlert’s sometimes do that. It has something to do with the sync protocol trying to make sure that they are synchronized. I know sometimes the strobes will start flashing a few seconds before the horns sound, too. That also is caused by the same thing.
@TheCarson1163 күн бұрын
@aerhardt Oh, really? Seems kinda stupid if you ask me (though I assume that the initializing period (during which time the system likely can't respond to things like alarms) is to give devices a chance to both fully/properly reset & to then start up again, right?). Simplex's ES-series, being some of their newest panels, _should_ be using the latest electronics though, no? Huh, alright.
@safetech3 күн бұрын
Reset protocol varies across the board. As recent comments referenced the timing mainly pertains to device alarm parameters and Idnet channel re-initialization/communication with the head-end among other factors.
@TheCarson1163 күн бұрын
@@safetech Oh, alright.
@aerhardt3 күн бұрын
@ You have to keep in mind that, although the ES series is still Simplex’s current line, the products have been in production for 10-15 years.
