Simplicity 9642 Sew Along // View C // Sew a Velvet Dress

Watch as I sew a velvet dress with pleated sleeves using Simplicity 9642 (link below).
I am using a walking foot in this video to help manage the slippery velvet through the layers.
We will also be inserting a sleeve head into the tops of each sleeve -- sewing the material into the seam to add volume and help prevent the sleeve from collapsing into itself and maintain its poofiness.

I wasn’t sure where the sleeves were going when that ‘bump’ pad was being made but - trust the design Maureen. Thought this was really sweet. Would it be easy to lengthen the skirt part for something slightly longer and in a different fabric. Cotton/muslin blend maybe?

Yes, the bump pads. 🤣. I had never seen those before either. But, they certainly do the trick to keep your sleeves from caving in. Very neat.
