My Grandfather owned one of those. It was like a right of passage for the boys in the Family to plow the field next to his house so he could plant Tomatoes, which he would use to make sauce. Thanks for sharing.

@@oldchevy4x4 Love the channel!!! I just bought the same tractor and plow. Any idea what the model number is on the plow? I can't find anything for it onlne...hoping to order a new share for it.

Great video! I have a 1959 VC with a rototiller and a sickle bar, its quite the machine! The motor was siezed up and the exhaust valve was stuck when I got it. I just used a little oil, broke it loose, forced the valve to move again, a little work on the points and it fired right up! No smoke, no knocks, nothing! Gotta love those old model 19's!

Awesome video. There are plenty of "walk around" videos for these walk behind tractors but not enough videos of them doing what they were built to do. Thanks for sharing,

My grandfather had a tractor just like that when I was a kid.boy seeing that tractor brings back fond memories of plowing paths and walks of snow 35 years ago.

Hi, great video. I always enjoy seeing the older machinery running. I used a David Bradley in the garden, because as I am always being told "I like to do things the hard way.' This year I upgraded to a '75 Troy Bilt Horse. I'll keep the DB for plowing snow, but the T-B makes preparing the garden so much easier. Keep up the good videos.

Can't go wrong with a vintage Troy Bilt... They're very tough machines. And a big thumbs up for keeping the old iron working!

Nice to see one of these doing some work. I have a similar Simplicity tractor, not sure of the model and it has a newer Briggs engine. I have a plow, a disc, 2 or 3 cultivator frames with a few sets of shovels, a front mount sickle mower and a front mount heavy duty dump cart with caster wheels. I don't use it, because I have a utility tractor with a plow, disc and home made cultivator. I have had the idea of adding a snow blower to the front, just hasn't gotten to the top of my priority list yet.
@oldchevy4x44 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to watch & comment! I've seen the rear-mounted dump cart but never seen a front-mounted one. Very cool! Simplicity did offer a single stage snow thrower for some of the models... although these days I doubt they're easy to find.
@bluegrallis4 жыл бұрын
I found a picture online of a cart like the one I have, but have never seen another one in person. A friend of mine found it somewhere, and tack welded the casters straight, bolted a hitch to it and was pulling it with his riding mower for a yard cart. I traded him a decent tin dumping yard cart for it :) I have a very little used snow blower off of an old riding mower my brother used to have. It wouldn't take much fabricating to mount it on front of the Simple tractor. The hardest part would probably be getting the right pulley size in the right place to power it.
@oldchevy4x44 жыл бұрын
I'd say that was one heck of a trade! Pulley sizing might end up trial & error...but in the end I'm sure it will be worth it. I used my Simp model W with a home-brew V blade to clear our walk-way years ago. Now all I do with that blade is put Christmas lights on it lol

I used to push snow with my 1954 Allis WD45, but the last several years, my GOOD neighbor has been clearing most of my driveway with his Bobcat, in a heated cab. He has to come down here to do his uncles drive, right across the road so it's not out of his way. I just remembered, I have a front blade that came with that Simplicity. It's up in the old barn, been there for about 30 years ;)

@shovelheezy Thanks! Briggs sure made them right... I've got a 19D that was seized to the point it took a press to get the piston out. A good honing, cleaning, & new rings and that engine ran great. It's amazing how tough the old cast iron Briggs engines are.

Thanks for sharing, I agree with Ryan Cooper, it's good to see videos of these machines working. I have an old Bready two wheel with many attachments that I'll need to do the same with.

Stanley Dalton I plow with one just like that for years. it was my dads we plowed about three acers every year the way to plow with that tractor is to put the transmission in high gear and the axles in low gear and half throttle and man you can do some turning

2 companies built walk behind tractors for Wards... Simplicity and Midland. The majority were Simplicity. Midland machines are quickly identifiable by their large cast clutch & PTO levers. Thanks for watching and commenting!

They are nice old tractors. .two bad things about them for gardening. .weight, and depending on the soil, you would have to run over it with a disc half a dozen times..i rigged up half a john deere spike toothed harrow to pull behind mine...the only downside you can only use one hand that way..
@GotrekGurninsson7 жыл бұрын
I have that same plow, was trying to figure out what it came from before adapting it to my tractor... Coincidence that both are simplicity items :)

I found one like it today for a cold $20 bill. I gotta go tommorw and pick it up. I thought it was a Simplicity by its color but its tags have washed over with age. I couldn't figure out how the transmission worked or rather the gearshift placement. The lever on the right I did figure was working a set of planetary gears because it had a neutral in the middle. Also if anyone has a list of plows or picture list of implements I'd luv to lust over them. Recently we got a "Hill Side" - "One Way" turning plow. Its draft pulled and when you get to the end of the furow you turn around and flip the plowshare over and it'll then plow back the other way. Most probably knew what I was speaking of. Anyway that is the first plow I gotta mount and adjust on to it. I might have too high of hopes but have always wanted one of these with a dozer push blade , Cole seed planter , turning plow , sickle mower.

You got a great deal! I had made a video a long time ago on the shift pattern of this tractor for another KZbinr... if you haven't got back to your tractor yet, check it out it may help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6u7q4Zogrihe7s Karl Brandt has put together a lot of information on everything from models & years, to the implements & attachments that were available. What are you plowing? 3in deep? Ive got the same, but I got new tires with water in fluid in them.
@oldchevy4x47 жыл бұрын
It was cutting 2 3/4"+... probably not more than 3" of unbroken clay based dirt. This had calcium chloride filled tires with wheel weights, but the tires were worn considerably.
@pheenix4214 жыл бұрын
Friends, forgive my ignorance...but, what is the purpose of that disc immediately in front of the plow? What does it do?
@jeremydavis25956 жыл бұрын
Alonzo Branson its a coulter. If you are plowing sod for a new area. It slits the sod, making it easier for the plow to peel it up & flip it over.
