I’m just beginning finger picking after strumming guitar chords for 55 years. Very good tutorial. Great explanations re how to get started. Thanks.
@taxisteve929 Жыл бұрын
I left a thank you out. It is so simple and it will come natural to people. Your timing will be great too because the fingers are keeping time. The only drawback, don’t give up your strumming! I picked every song to sing along with it for years and when I went back to start streaming, it was hard to find the right timing even here 4/4 time!! It was crazy, but I remember reading an article that Keb Mo had the exact same thing happen. He played finger style for so long, that when he had a tune that required strumming, he had to work at it. So I can still keep that strumming in your practices because as simple as it seems, if you don’t do it for a long time, you actually lose it and have to take a little time to get it back.

Good to see both 4/4 and 3/4 timing

Hey man your a good teacher, most who have already arrived at good playing forget how hard it may be for a beginner and teach way to fast, so it becomes very frustrating....keep up the good work....😎

Thanks Jonathan, this is really helpful to me. Fingerpicking is a guitar goal of mine and given that I'm mostly using both of the basic strum patterns you've taught me, adding the finger picking version makes complete sense. Thanks!

I thought I recognized the voice on this lesson! You made all kinds of instructional videos but never showed your face. Maybe I’m way behind but this is the first time I’ve seen your face. You are a fantastic player and instructor! I think the reason your videos didn’t have a billion sales or a billion views is because it’s so hard to build a relationship with people when you don’t see their face. People usually gravitate to likeable people. But, man, you seem AND look, like a great guy! And you’re easily as good as the top guitar teachers on KZbin. These easy to play, easy to understand, free videos, should bring tons of people to your page. I wish more people would throw in some singing with the lesson. Like how to play and sing some of the more basic, rock, blues, country hits. Keep up the good work!

Hi Jonathon. I would find it easier to comprehend these patterns if you had on-screen graphics showing the string/finger relationship. On the 4/4 pattern, what is the string order when playing a D chord? Is it G, D, B, G?

Thanks, Jonathon! This is great! I really love the emotion finger picking gives a song. Now all I need is a magic potion that makes my chord progressions smooth and fast. I'm still clumsy with progressions to C and D. Oddly, I find I hit chords more accurately when I don't watch my fretting hand.
@SimplifiedGuitar3 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it Will. Your progressions will get there, just keep practicing!

Hello Yudi. Set a metronome to something slow, like 60 or 80 bpm. Just take one transition, for instance, G to Cadd9, then back to G and keep repeating, focusing on only the strum pattern. Count the beats out loud to help you focus on the strumming. Begin the transition between the last beat of one measure and the first beat of the next. Do this for several minutes (15 or so) over a few days. This will help set the strum pattern to memory.
