I've been doing this for over 50 years, most of which was during the film era which was financially costly if you kept making errors. You learned to get it right. I have not had a single conflict with anything that you said in this (or any previous) video. This is all solid information. Any newbies out there, listen to this man.

i really wish i could’ve been there to see what that was like in the daily basis. i’m sure while digital has new challenges (never shot film before), more was demanded of you while learning back then. thank you! that means a lot! you’ve been supporting me for a while 🙏🏾

Bingewatching all your content ... I totally agree, I stuck with one lens, the Fuji 35mm f2 for a whole year. I remember when I first put it on I was immediately concerned about it being too tight, but now I know the lens like the back of my hand and no longer see any of that as a true limitation, you just get different kinds of pictures. I went to Spokane and Minneapolis on two different trips this year and only brought that lens. It's fun. Enjoyed the video, and it's cool to see someone repping Cleveland, I've never been to Ohio!
@doriyancoleman2 жыл бұрын
thank you! and yes! the “one lens challenge” can be so helpful. like you said, you just get different kinds of pictures. and if you ever do plan on coming to cleveland / northeast ohio, wait until the spring and summer. winter is crazy over here! 😂

I used a 50mm exclusively for about 8 months and I loved it, I’ve moved on to a 35mm and I love it even more been using it for a few months and it’s the only lens I own for my fujifilm thinking of getting something wider in the future though

maybe the 18mm f/2 or 1.4 👀

@@doriyancoleman how do you feel about 27/28mm lenses? Are they much wider than a 35?
@doriyancoleman2 жыл бұрын
@@harleyappezzato7301 if we’re talking 28mm in full frame terms, i really enjoy it. it’s definitely a bit different than using a 35mm equiv. check out my video on it! “28mm vs. 35mm”

I think this is great advice. I spend more time worrying about bodies and lenses and it just creates a creative block. I'm in love with 28 and 35, and I also like 50 for some things. I would love to try what you suggest - logically it makes total sense. Enjoyed the video.

Hi Doriyan, Question for you. I say you love the 35mm. Is that the crop sensor or full-frame equivalent? Thanks. PS. love the approach of your videos.

Gee! And to think that it's so hard to find this kind of down-to-earth, sound advice on street photography almost everywhere else on you tube, as many prefer to concoct the latest hype or dictate whatever gear brand ppl should spend their hard-earned money on, instead of honing in their skills.
@doriyancoleman2 жыл бұрын

@@doriyancoleman Definitely! But, very ironically, many street photographers tend to lose that focus in between gear purchases - been there done that! BTW: Well done for such bold and brave (also cheeky LOL) statement: 04:25

i disagree. i think at the BEGINNING you should stick to one lens because you're learning. however if you're 2+yrs into it, you should definitely be experimenting more. sometimes when i got out and shoot, i usually take a few lenses with me and feel out what i should use. some days/situations, a zoom is better, other days a prime, other days a 24mm, other times a 85mm. i think "simplification" this catchy idea however it's now leading to ppl having an inability to try new things, experiment and deal with more complexity. complexity is not a bad thing/word. nevertheless, nice to see a brotha on these street photography... streets haha.
@doriyancoleman2 жыл бұрын
i didn’t say to never experiment, i said to give lenses your full focus so you can actually figure out their advantages and challenges relative to your style. many photographers blame poor results on kits and bodies, when in reality they didn’t give them enough time to figure out what they want or can do with them. “one lens for all your photo walks” doesn’t mean “only one” forever.

@@doriyancoleman Not using it because I'm on a budget ... using it because it has all of the tools I need for minor editing. If I have to use a more advanced tool, and spend a lot of time on a photo, the message to me is -- get it right/better in the camera, become a better photographer!
