I used to chase bokeh when I was a noob. The low aperture is helpful at night, but f/2 is plenty fast enough especially with the iso performance on today's sensors.

100% david. 1.4 and 1.2 used to be all that mattered as a beginner lol, but we soon realize that they’re just options that can give certain results. and like you said, with modern ISO performance f/2 is plenty. 1.2 becomes less of necessity and more of a choice 🙏🏾

Totally agree!! I’m still rocking with the X-T2 for product photography and an X-Pro1 for fun and family… both bought second hand and they still work great, and actually the flaws/limitations of the X-Pro1 is endearing - like that super sweet but slightly annoying cousin everyone loves
@doriyancoleman3 жыл бұрын
aye i like it! as far as that x-pro1 goes, do you ever use manual focus lenses for it? i’ve been tossing around the idea of getting one of the “old sensor” bodies & a MF lens for it
@sammy_sam_leonardo3 жыл бұрын
@@doriyancoleman no I don’t have any manual focus lenses for it right now, but I did have the same idea to use a MF lens with it like you- one of the TTartisans ones… but when I started using it with my current Fujifilm lenses I actually really liked the results so I kinda just forgot about a new lens! Plus, I haven’t been getting out doing much street stuff recently- but I could imagine zone focusing with a manual lens on the x-pro1 could be really fun on the streets…

f2.8 on APS-C is same DOF as f4 on fullframe. So you and Steve McCurry probably on to the same effective DOF. It's a magical number for portraits. I have the 23/1.4 and the size of it is annoying when I want to put my camera in a small sling and walk outside (don't get me started on the 16/1.4 I had). I used to have the 50/2 and LOVED how good and saturated of an image I got out of that thing and it was small and tightly built. Fuji'crons are awesome! For my Leica M setup I am totally happy to shoot portrait with my CV Skopar lenses witch are all f2.5 max.
@doriyancoleman2 жыл бұрын
there you go! these days i practically live at f4 and above because that’s when lenses start to perform their best. those f/2’s, the pancakes, honestly man there comes a time where you realize the smaller a lens is the more convenient. sounds like we’re both there! thanks for watching

I came back to photography after a 10 year hiatus, and the specs on new digital bodies are so crazy that I don't know how people justify the need to buy the latest model. Who needs 26+ MP, 12800 ISO, 10+ fps bursts, etc? Are we shooting action sequences in moonless nights to print them on the side of buildings? It's especially funny with sensor definition, since nowadays most people are showing their pictures on Instagram, which offers a worse resolution than websites that were popular in the early 2000's
@doriyancoleman2 жыл бұрын
with the times changing, i think it’s great that cameras have so many features. after all, it’d be a shame if cameras didn’t advance with technology, and if people didn’t have as many options as we do now. the fact that something with specs so crazy can be had at a relatively affordable price is awesome, but at the end of the day, the barrier to street photography entry is low!
@raymeedc Жыл бұрын
Good advice, which I’ll take even farther. I’m a serious hobbyist who shoots a good deal of street photography, with and without peopled subjects. I don’t shoot sports or video. That being the case, I’ve gone a generation farther than you have, as my Fujifilms are an X-T2, x-T20, and X-E2, $300-$500 each in Mint condition, mated with used f2 Fujinon. It’all EyE needs.
