I use W&N and Holbien. Daniel Smith came out with their line after I bought a lot of other gouache.

So great! 1. I live in NYC. 2. Find city scales very challenging because they’re so busy. 3. I’m considering learning to paint w/ gouache. (it always looks so dry and thirsty when I use it.) Thanks for this!

There’s a lot of great subjects in New York. You might try just added more water to the gouache. Start thinner then gradually add thicker paint in the lights

Phil it all came together at the end! Have you done any tutorials on painting human figures - like what you added to this painting?

Phil, I do quite a bit of gouache for field studies. I use M.Graham, WN, and Holbein pigments. These three all seem to perform about the same. I've also tried the gouache/acryl, but do not like it as well. It's to much like acrylics and dries really fast. Doesn't clean up as easily, and will harden in a brush. It doesn't seem to spread and cover the way plain gouache does. I do buy my white in the WN large tube, and use Permanent White. I do have some M.Graham Titanium White, which they have (permanent white) in the parentheses right below the TWhite label. Maybe try a couple of tubes of the Holbein and report your findings. Thanks again for your shared tutorials.
