Perfect timing for this Video Tyler. Just a couple days ago I tied on a drop shot for the very first time ever and went out on a heavily pressured public local lake. Not only was it my first time fishing this rig, it was my very first cast that I made with this set up that I realized just how effective this technique is. Caught a 3lb LMB that bit before I could even close the bail on the reel. Excited to put these tips to good use

I like to use a GYB Shad Shape Worm when dropshotting. I found that when I nose hooked them in the traditional manner, after awhile they would start hanging tail down, which was no good. I started hooking them the way that was described in the video and discovered that I caught more fish because the bait was always in the right position. I thought I invented this tip. 😄

I like to use the BPS Squirrmin worm (4" and 6") on a dropshot when video fishing with 2d. Nose hooked with hook popped out the top is important when you want the worm to swing up and the little tail to kick and slow the fall since the fall is the presentation the way I do it mostly. Hooking it the way that reduces line twists kills the action of this worm. DEADLY for spotted bass when they're aggressive and economical worm to use. I'll switch to the robo style worm behind fronts when they don't want to eat the squirrmin worm.

Enjoyed video. Unfortunately for me- fish on highly pressured lakes so I enjoy these type videos. I'll take any tips I can get from an experienced angler I can. Question: what is your opinion about using high vis braid color (like yellow) to flouro leader - specifically when fishing drop shot rig? Some say hi vis line spooks bass even with flouro leader - other say that hi vis line helps with watching line - line crappie fishermen sometimes do. Hopefully question makes sense.

I can’t afford expensive lines so this is secondhand: I’ve heard several people mention using leaders between 15’ to 25’ long. You’ve got to have a really thin knot.

@BassFishinHQ yet another great vid! Also love the hats. Got one for me and one for my dad, probably get another one soon. Only topic you didn't cover is the knot. I used to exclusively use a Palomar, then started tying a knot where you put the line through the hooke eye, then make a loop twist the hook through the loop and sinch down after like 5 or 6 twists. Do you have a preference?

Okay Ty. I started drop shot fishing a few weeks ago and I'm hooked. Your tip about out fishing friends because you "drag" the bait instead of constantly shaking it is invaluable! I catch 90 % of my bass on the drag after letting it sink. Sink, couple of small shakes and begin the drag. THAT'S when they hit it!! Sometimes when the line is taut I will give the bait a small shake and they attack it but, it's almost always the drag that gets them. Thanks for the "drag" tip! I have one question, am I only catching smaller bass, (1.5-2Lbs NJ) because I am solely using Zoom 4" finesse worms? I even bite off an inch so, they are actually more like 3". Would I catch/attract larger bass with a larger worm? I'm ecstatic over the amount I'm catching but, am wondering if larger worms would mean larger catches? Oh, and BTW, ALL of my fishing is from the bank and, this technique definitely catches them from there. Thanks for the tips!

Go big you’ll catch big. But sometimes small gets big , be patient.
@robertbrost777711 ай бұрын
Got to thinking about the 8 pound leader. Would the bait stay more horizontal if you used a 12 pound leader? Wouldn't the bait + hook weight have a harder time laying over on heavier line? You might lose a little bit of the action but, isn't a horizontal bait the main concern? Thanks.
@ScruffyCityFishing2 жыл бұрын
Keeping simple is refreshing.. seems like I spend so much time changing things that I probably miss fish. I really like the vmc spin shot hook. It lets me switch from a weedless ewg hook to a standard drop shot hook quicker. Have you used them? Am I missing fish by having that swivel assembly in front of the bait?

10in to a foot works well for me from hook to weight. Shake rod every now and then in same spot, then reel about 6 to 8 inches, repeat. MJBII
@titaniumcrayon30902 жыл бұрын
It’s completely up to you but about 10-12 inches is a good start. My biggest piece of advice to to spool up a huge leader in case you break off or need to cut your line. Especially when using a drop shot you really don’t want to be tying that connection knot over and over again. Don’t worry it won’t affect casting or sensitivity. When tying the leader on imagine putting on enough to where if you broke off the entire rig, you could easily just put on another hook and do it again. Have fun it’s one of the absolutely easiest baits to catch fish on and master.
@ricksonora66562 жыл бұрын
It depends on how far off the bottom you want the worm to hop or float.
