4:30 If you recall, in the Search he says hes looking for the map to Hope.. in Psychology, we call this Learned Helplessness.. when you stop trying “Let me go let me go...”... when you are used to a certain way of life, but have something change.. he was hospitalised and diagnosed with OCD.. hence, the line begging to let him go from needing perfection (OCD symptom.. hes tired) so its a hail mary to finally just ask to meet Hope, bc up, down, searching.. he cant find her.. (pretty sure he feminizes Hope in Remember This).. this song mustve been written during a needed Mansion Therapy Session to vent out.. just a low.. looking for 7 letters FREEDOM from his OCD, burdens, everything. But NO NO NO. Notice when the ad libbed “NO NO NO” s come in.. only when hes trying to force positivity.. the voices tell him nope. But when he self deprecates.. they stay silent.. #nfrealmusic

Like Nate said in The Search he is looking for the map to hope. And Dev Lethal is lethal! Nice reaction. So here is the running list of the working concept on The Search album. Feel free to join in the conversation. He leads off with a call back to his first album Mansion with "something's funny going on in my house...". He says he is looking for the map to hope, opens up about his mental health. "OCD trying to push my buttons. Now you done it" and he goes off! We also get a call back to Fame in the search when he says he got a taste of it and he had to vomit. Of course Fame comes back in the second song Leave Me Alone -third verse. The Search ends with Nate reminding us (and himself) to quit hating our selves every day when we look in the mirror. He climbs back in his cage and the white clothing is placed in his cart. Either mocking or encouraging Nate. We see more of the white clothing in the next song and they are involved in a process. They all are standing in lines, changing into white clothes, getting fake smiles wiped off, and ending up in a line to hand burdens to God? Maybe. Meanwhile Nate is still in black and tells us about how his doubts, OCD and perfectionism rule his mind and he wants them to Leave Me Alone. This time OCD is explained in detail with the brilliant lines of "Mental health. Mental health. Diagnosed with OCD what does that mean? It means that I obsessively obsess on things I think about. It means I might take a normal thought and think it's so profound..." So mental health is one of the themes for sure. We see that deeply and skillfully in this song. The next song Change is just dope as hell. Great vibe. And he is sounding more optimistic and determined to change in this song. I feel a sense of hope in this song. So I am going to say the theme in the context of the NF Journey is he is in active battles now with his emotions, doubts, and perfectionism. I am not sure if you heard Why yet but it really is about perfectionism, and lack of respect. So if Mansion was Nate locked in his house with Fear. Therapy Session was about Nate trying to live with these emotions and learning to cope. Not about victory. That comes in Perception. In Perception we see Nate bury Fear, bust out as the Outcast, take chances and catch a little fire. Perception is a shining mountain on a hill. A goal achieved. And in some ways The Search is about crashing back to earth and realizing reaching that mountain top didn't satisfy. He is still a perfectionist, still has these crazy thoughts of failure, the devil emerges on both shoulders. But now Nate is fighting back. So the Search album has victorious battles and then deep valleys. Deep, dark moments. But there is a overriding theme of hope that keeps Nate going. And finally in this song we see one of those crashes. Actually we kind of see an active battle, a skirmish with his demons. He is fighting back but resigned to asking his negative thoughts to let him go, leave me alone. This is more like a cry for help and a precursor to songs like Hate Myself. Interlude and Hate Myself bring us a deeper understanding of this battle. Sorry Dev for pontificating so much. I wanted to get these thoughts out and it just felt better to share them with you and your fans. I won't do this again unless you want me to. All best!
