2023 was my purge year! I donated 8 packed-to-the-brim loads in my 3-row SUV of clothes, household goods, furniture, and kids stuff. We uprooted our lives and moved over 2,000 miles away with just 300 cubic feet of stuff as a family of 4. It was so nice to be liberated of all the unused items! We definitely had to spend a good chunk of $ repurchasing furniture when we got here, but it's nice to start fresh!

I’m in the same boat. I started my declutter back in 2017, but since then I been working on concentrating in replacing items with better quality items. For me Decluttering has been such a long process, but also because I think currently there’s lots of more information than when I started. And more motivation with channels like yours.

You could have a “maybe” box stored away, out of sight. If you truly remember it and dig it out, it’s a keeper. After a while just donate the box if nothing is pulled out.

As a minamilist with an actual capsule wardrobe, stick to a style. for you I'm guessing it would be blue jeans and blazers. Edit out the stuff that does not fit that style. Yes you can have the random dress or so, but if you're not buying it because you see yourself wearing it, its sitting in your closet decaying, You can't tell yourself 'no i'm gonna wear that eventually' if you want to downsize a wardrobe. I read in a fashion magazine when i was a child 'pick a staple item of clothing, pick a staple accessory, pick a staple scent. They will matter way more than you know.' I've LIVED by that motto. Now It's always jeans and a hoodie, a black backpack (I made a fashion trend) and either coconut or pumpkin spice. People KNOW me by this. :) (aside from when i wear scrubs, you can't do anything there)

I would suggest hooks for items you will re-wear. The bench is lovely for sitting and dressing, but flat surfaces only accumulate clutter.

Life is too short to be ironing. If you have to have things super neat, get a handheld steamer. It accomplishes the same thing but in a fraction of the time. Great video!

1 thing you could do is keep a steamer in your laundry space with your hangers. So, you can steam your laundry before you take it to your closet. Isn’t shouldn’t be embarrassing, because you are Mama, with a Full Time job. That’s just life sometimes. I had to hire a cleaning lady come help me clean, but now my home is clean with all my laundry done. 🧺 Are you going to have your sweatshirts top to bottom stacked, being seen like that, or you going to have them like a file system, like you have in the drawers on those shelves? Were you able to make room for Chad’s items?

I share part of our closet with my husband. So I can’t keep things on the floor. He may trip over shoes and boots. But he hasn’t said anything. I do keep clothes all over the cedar chest at the bottom of our bed. I clean it off every once in a while. And it needs to be done now. Good luck with the bench in your closet.

This isnt konmari folding :/ The way marie kondo folds the items are that they can stand upright by themselves. The idea behind is yes, so you see what you have but the clothes souldnt rely on other items or drawers or so which prevent them from falling to the side. :/
