Mrs. Schaefer......I feel as if God put this on your heart specificically for me. I am so grateful for you and the work you do, so faithful to God's calling in your life. Thank you for giving so many of us mom's without mentors the guidance we need.

I have been very sick lately. I have let my kids get out of routine and allowed more screen time and have not had a strong will when it comes to the kids wanting things. I've just been so tired I didn't want to deal with it. It has been a month and things have gotten out of control in my home. I am still not well, but I need to get the kids back into their routine. I really needed this video tonight, thank you.

You have described my situation exactly. I have a chronic illness with severe pain, and I have allowed it to compromise my parenting and teaching. I get so tired of fighting the pain, I often don't do what I should do. This has affected my children and our home life. I needed to see this video!

This spoke directly to my heart, thank you! We just moved across the country and I am struggling with figuring out a new routine and schedule for our homeschool (and life!) and have been so overwhelmed that I have kind of given up. As a result, life has felt chaotic and disorganized. This was exactly what I needed to hear to get not only inspired to make better choices, but also practical ways to start making better choices!🌸 May God bless you for pouring your wise words into us!

What a blessing this video was to me today. I generally have excellent willpower and discipline but I needed to comprehend it from the perspective of an adult, in order to help me with the raising of my granddaughter. I am ordering the book you have written as well. Thank you Sonya, from Australia

How do you balance teaching willpower with allowing children to express their emotions? My husband was raised in a culture that shows very little emotion, so I am trying to figure out the correct balance.

Martin Kids Help them to recognize what feelings they're having. "You're feeling mad (or angry). It's okay to be angry, but it's not okay to hit.". Teach coping skills when your child is calm and able to pay attention. Model to your child the proper way to respond to things they don't want. It's a lifelong process. Invalidating their feelings will lead to them shutting you out oftheir lives; emotionally or physically, when older.

I think there is a difference between expressing one's emotions and pandering to one's emotions. Feeling melancholy and acknowledging that, determining if it is appropriate for your goals to be wrapped in a blanket all day and deciding that you will or won't do this today, is exercising willpower. For our children, being angry and hitting are not and should not be synonymous. Exerting will to choose better expressions for anger than violence is the goal.

It seems like willpower is especially needful in learning to express emotions in a constructive manner. As an example, a person who is angry needs to develop enough willpower that she can express her anger in a way that won’t hurt herself or anybody else, rather than exploding or striking out physically or verbally. A person who wants something needs to develop the self-control to express that desire in a polite and kind voice, rather than whining and pitching a fit. Personality will play a part in the intensity of emotional expressiveness, but the key principle is being able to express an emotion without being controlled by that emotion.

Dear Sonya, I have a question. Help me out figuring this out please: If I have this choice "I will use a kind voice at home with my children", wich parts of the body are involved in carrying out that choice, wich movement? Thank you 🙏
@SimplyCharlotteMason
@SimplyCharlotteMason Ай бұрын
Hi, Thank you for reaching out with your question! The actions that will lead you to choose to use a kind voice could be: prayer, walking away from the overstimulating/stressful situation, counting to three quietly or out loud, pushing play on some worship music, or reading a verse of your Bible that you have laid out on your countertop as a reminder to seek the word of God during the trials of your day. Here is a helpful post that gives some more great tips on maintaining a sweet, even, temper. simplycharlottemason.com/blog/habits-q-and-a-parents-character-maintaining-a-sweet-even-temper/ Lots of grace for yourself and your children during this process, where there is a will to change a habit with consistent effort you will see progress it is a challenge, however it is possible!

Thank you!!!! This will help!! I asked because in some video, Sonya was talking about wich parts of the body are involved in carrying the choice, in this case - keeping a gentle tone. What about in a moment of stress or when anger is coming up, what could the movement be/ what could the body part be involved? Like "don't open the mouth and don't speak any word", "do not move your arms", "move to another room". What Else could be? This body/physical perspective really interests me. Thanks for bringing this up and to help me out! ❤
