This song was actually about an incident Ronnie had in a bar that pretty much went down like the song says. The only part not chronicled is the other band members laughing their asses off as Ronnie came running out of the bar.

Their years of Fame was from 1970-1977 in which the singer Ronnie Van zant, guitarist and his sister backup vocals Chris and Cassie Gaines and the manger died in a plane crash they regrouped in 1987 with Johnny Van zant on vocals with the remaining members. Now there are to my knowledge 4 remaining members left Gary Rossington, Ed King, Artimus Pyle, and Rick Medlock. Gary and Ricky are in the band now. And when the formed the band when they where in high school, their pe coach said they would never amount to anything so they named the band after him. His name was Leonard Skinner

You need to listen to the start of the song. I was cutting the rug, down at a place called the Jug, with a girl named Linda Lou. So he was only dancing with a girl he just met. I’m 63 I started listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1974, I was in 10th grade in high school, more great songs on the first album. “Simple Man”.”Tuesday’s Gone”, “Freebird”

It’s a true story. I just did a “Skynyrd tour” with Ronnie Van Zant’s best friend, Gene Odom who was also the band’s security manager. He was a plane crash survivor that killed Ronnie, Steve and his sister, Cassie. We met across the road from The Jug, which was called West Tavern at the time this happened. They renamed the bar The Jug. There was a store The Little Brown Jug and Ronnie just thought the Jug sounded better. I enjoyed your reaction.

Lol 😂 I just saw this video. I’ve been a Skynyrd fan pretty much my whole life and this has always been my favorite song of theirs, if I had to pick one. The song came out in 1973, by the way. And it’s based on a true story. The singer was flirting with another guy’s girlfriend in a bar and the dude pulled a gun on him. The story goes that the singer told the guy something like “if you’re gonna shoot me, you’re gonna have to hit me in the a$$ or the elbows cuz I’m outta here!” 😂

I know that you are not familiar with LYNYRD SKYNARD yet! But, like many other singers and bands, you need to go down THAT rabbit hole. I HAVE BEEN A LONG TIME SUBSCRIBER OF YOURS AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR REVIEWS. IN FACT OUR TASTE IN MUSIC RUNS ALONG THE SAME LINES. I AM 63 AND I LIVED THROUGH ELVIS, LYNRD SKYNYRD, AND SO MANY MORE. TRUST ME, YOU NEED TO REVIEW "MR. BANKER", " FREEBIRD", AND "SIMPLE MAN". THESE ARE ONLY A SMALL BEGINNING FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND THEIR IMMENSE TALENT. THEY ARE TYPICAL OF SOUTHERN ROCK DURING THE 70'S. I AM SURE THAT YOU KNOW MOST OF THE BAND EXCEPT FOR MAYBE 1, POSSIBLY 2, WERE KILLED IN A HORRIBLE PLANE CRASH VERY EARLY IN THEIR CAREER. THEY WERE UNIQUE, THEY WERE AWESOME, THEY WROTE ALL OF THEIR OWN MATERIAL, AND THEY WERE VERY TALENTED! GONE WAY TOO SOON!

A lot of people talk about and suggest 'Freebird'. DON'T DO IT! NOT YET! Not knowing any of their other great stuff, it will ruin the experience. Save it until you've had the chance to hear at least, a dozen other tunes from them. Then, take off in that flight. This is one of the all-time greats and that was always the show finale. Approach your journey through here the same way. You're welcome, in advance. 😉😎
