@@lalaurlalala I don't think so. Outside of the US, the difference between University and College is clear. Here in the states, they're practically interchangeable words, but most people use the word college for everything from undergrad to PhD work, though sometimes they'll specify "grad school" for degrees beyond a bachelors. edit: also to clarify, Chelsea's position on college being a waste of money is based on the cost of education in the US specifically, which is absolutely astronomical compared to everywhere else in the world.

I'd never refer to my grad school time as *college*. Something like the phrase "in college", I'd only use for the time when I did my BA degree. Anything after that, I'd call grad school.

Severely disappointed with this episode tbh, it seems like Chelsea did absolutely 0 research on Cristine, her personal brand, or her actual brand, or what she actually does on her channel. I was especially mad that she kept trying to point it back to beauty youtube and talked about drama in the beauty community when it is VERY clear if you have watched maybe an hour of simply naillogical that Cristine is basically not involved with them at all.

The lightning round of questions was my fav part, especially the last question. I watch simplypodlogical so I already knew about all the things Cristine shared in the first half of the video, but I still enjoyed it. I’m surprised Chelsea didn’t know Cristine owned Holo Taco and that it was a full business. I felt it was a missed opportunity to talk more about Cristine as a businessowner of 2 businesses (holo taco and her KZbin channel) rather than as a beauty KZbinr.

Now I’m no journalist .... but I am pretty sure before an interview that the interviewer is supposed to do at least a little bit of research about the interviewee. Chelsea seemed very out of touch and kept falling back on the beauty guru questions despite Christine being very clear that she does not want to be included in that group.

It was so rude the way the host cut her off to explain college/university and said she was being “fancy.” No, the terms literally mean different things in Canada. Cristine was trying to explain, as they have on her podcast, that college is more like a trade school is here, and university is what we think of as traditional college in the US. But she literally talked over her and was like no you’re wrong it’s the same here too. It’s not. Poor cristine was just like oh really ok.

I'm disappointed with the approach here. It felt as though Chelsea had no real interest in Christine or her career and was forcing conversation. Christine is SMART, she's a businesswoman, she advocates for education, financial independence, and strategic, ethical spending practices. There was a chance to have a great conversation here. The lack of research and interest really let everyone who was DYING for this collab down. I love Chelsea and all the other podcasts are great, it's just this one that so cringe. I kept getting the feeling Chelsea was patronizing and didn't respect Christine as an entrepreneur

I love simplynailogical. I’ve watched basically any content that she is in on KZbin but I had to stop watching this interview after a handful of minutes. It just felt cringe and like the interviewer didn’t do any research before hand. Cristine is such a good role model. There were so many topics that could’ve been delved into but it just seemed like surface level and like the interviewer wanted gossip about the beauty space when that is not what Cristine is about at all.

As a long time fan of Cristine and her content I do not understand this interview at all. I expected this to be an interview about Cristine's professional life and talk about topics like starting her own business, managing her KZbin channel and her unique take on financial advice for women, but this host just took everything in a completely random (and sometimes disrespectful, in my eyes) direction. Like...why are you asking about Cristine being child-free? What does that have to do with finances? And I know it was a "viewer question", but any long time viewer of Cristine would know the answer to that. And the fact that she instantly tried to establish that she had nothing to do with the beauty community should've been clear enough that the question was abandoned. I'm glad to read so many other comments here feeling the same way. Basically this podcast seemed like an excuse for the host to talk about herself and to occasionally take a weird, unprovoked jab at Cristine. Considering she never does interviews, I'm really upset that this is how this went for her. Edit: OH MY GOD! The part where the host ignored Cristine MULTIPLE TIMES about Holo Taco being her OWN brand was absolutely infuriating. Why are you basically trying to insist that she was just licensing out her brand? Did you do ANY research on her at all before having her on? Jesus.

Cristine is not even a beauty youtuber and has made it very clear she does not identify with that in her videos and verbally here as well. So many more meaningful topics could be covered than lip filler and vapid people in LA. Those things are completely irrelevant to her but she answered gracefully anyways.

I normally don’t watch this channel, but it was recommended to me. Tbh, I’m underwhelmed by the tone of this interview. How does being in any space (whether beauty, sports, self-care, etc) prevent you from being business or money savvy? The tone of this interview was very condescending. We are all in different spaces in terms of finances, and all have different hobbies and interests. We are in 2021 and should be better than this.

I have to agree with the other comments. It’s as if this interviewer didn’t do any research on Cristine, and thought she found someone who’s in the beauty drama community to get the inside scoop on. Cristine said a couple times in this video that she started her channel simply to share her creative passion. Her channel message has never been about beautifying yourself, its always been about having fun with nail art.

Cristine says she doesn't consider herself a beauty influencer but it sounds like that's what she is while she is trying to branch out into other spheres. (I should note, I don't know who she is but she seems lovely).

Agreed. Cristine hasn't done makeup or participated in that for a long time because of allergies. There is very little overlap between beauty influencers and nail swatchers/artists. The two communities are so different.

I used to watch TFD all the time, but stopped about a year-ish ago because it started feeling more and more snobby and elitist. I have never stopped watching Simply Nailogical. Cristine is awesome, funny, and just down to earth. I even own most of the Holo Taco nail products, not because I like glitter that much, but because I like her, her channel, and what she was able to build. It's my one big financial splurge. When I saw this video I was like ok, for Cristine, I can give TFD another try. NOPE! This was so cringy and it wasn't your guest... I'll keep watching Simply and keep not watching TFD.

While I respect the idea of this podcast, some of the statements you made in this interview sat poorly with me. Starting off with 'What could I possibly talking about with a beauty youtuber, how expensive nails are?' seems like an extremely misogynistic statement. As if women who care about their appearance or find hobbies with makeup cannot possibly understand financial literacy. And your opening joke about your nails not being chipped, assuming that is at all important to Christine the 'beauty youtuber' also patronizes the conversation right away. You seem to grasp for the same financially literate respect Christine has for her choices by comparing them to your own. Christine working a 9-5 job is not the same as you working 9-5 on KZbin. But your word choices seem to be inflating your own self-importance. You may be gaining a lot of financial literacy now, but you speak as though you know it all and you're here to help everyone else figure it out too. I don't understand this approach because your own explanation of your 'net worth' alone shows that your financial literacy is derived mainly from this one source of income. I'm personally bothered by your tone, which is obviously subjective so take this opinion as you will, but as an employee of an entertainment business with your main income stemming from one source, I don't think your conversations surrounding financial literacy should be from a place of wisdom sharing. Another thing, as an interviewer, you are there to interview your guest. I'm here to listen to Christine speak on her financial literacy. But when Christine shares something about her past experience, rather than engaging with her and continuing to talk about the story or experience, you immediately shift the conversation back to you and your experience and what you do. You seem to be seeking a lot of validation for your work and it's quite annoying. Of course you are incredibly hard working, you have a company with several employees. But you can share that on your own time and in your own video. If someone is here to learn from the wisdom for Chelsea, they will watch you talk about it, but people clicked for Christine's financial opinion. I watch Christine's podcast, and although they discuss money, business, and finances, I was super interested in hearing Christine talk about her life and why she's made the choices she's made, but your constant need to slip your own accomplishments in any chance you get is really annoying. **For example -- Christine talked about negotiating for a raise for the first time and you some how transitioned that conversation to TFD not having rate cards?** What a self involved leap of topics simply over the word "negotiation". There's no way this is it, but the interview feels like you believe Christine is here for YOUR advice. You're talking to Christine and the audience as though your teaching her and her viewers how to operate a business. Beauty community drama Chelsea? Really? Your podcast is about mature content and you believe because Christine paints her nails, that she's at all interested or has an opinion the drama? To me, this says a lot about how little you know Christine. You have her on the podcast as clickbait. Chelsea my god... you asked Christine "What do you think about the beauty community? Do you think it's toxic?" Christine answers your question with her opinion, which no offense, is objectively more informed than yours as someone who is technically part of that space, and as soon as she finishes answering your question, you go into speaking about your answer TO YOUR OWN QUESTION! You have good information to offer Chelsea, but not everything you think in your brain 1. needs to be said out loud OR and more importantly 2. IS CORRECT. Just because you have a successful business does not mean you know everything about business. You have worked hard to be where you are and to know the things you know, but you're ignoring a lot of the help you received along the way to put yourself in a better light, and I think that's being more dishonest than anything. Your brand was started with another company. You were given stable capital and time to invest back into your business, that's a HUGE advantage. It doesn't mean you didn't work hard and earn where you are now, but some of your advice is catered to business that have VERY LUCKILY fallen in the same path as yours, but you're framing it as oversimplified business knowledge and generalized financial literacy and wealth management. Not everyone starting a youtube channel will have access to Hank Green's money/influence to start off. Your business didn't succeed because you didn't have a 'rate card' or you invested any profits back into the company. Those may have helped, but a large part of your success was off of the back of someone else. Humble yourself down. "The gaming community is a bunch of dudes with t-shirts" Again, I'm just going to leave this statement for you to understand on your own. You asked Christine about her experience in the beauty space and if that makes her feel pressure, she talked about her first time visiting LA as a culture shock, and you start talking about YOUR experience in LA. You didn't even ask to clarify what type of culture shock she was talking about? People, traffic, population, size? You were just waiting for your turn to speak about yourself. "Your face is built to support the features you have" Ok it's obvious you have a personal issue with people caring about their appearance. You have a personal issue with people taking time to make sure they like the way they look. You have a personal issue with people changing their physical attributes or caring about it. This doesn't affect your life, whatsoever. Whether someone chooses to get lip fillers is up to them. Only affects them. And makes no impact on your life. Just because YOU think your face is built to support your features doesn't make that the truth. It's your opinion, and it's a pretty shitty one too. Imagine women who have altered their appearance watching this. Some women do that because they're unhappy about a feature on their body. They change it to make themselves feel better, not to make you feel any type of way. So why have an opinion on it? And why have a strong enough opinion on it that you need to share it MULTIPLE times in a podcast? When I hear judgments like this, I immediately assume you are the one dealing with your own insecurities. You're upset that people have a certain beauty standard and you're blaming women for that. "You only follow women over 50 because we have a youth obsessed media" Virtue signal queen. Who is consuming the media? Youth. Who do youth relate to more? Someone your own age. Again, these oversimplifications because of your all encompassing wisdom of the world is obnoxious. You have a valid perspective, but it's just one of billions. Also "Following regular influencers made you feel ugly". Ok again, your own insecurities, that I'm sorry you suffer with, but they are your own issue to deal with. But then admitting that you feel better following older influencers is part of the toxic 'youth obsessed' culture. You're equating youth with beauty and it triggers your insecurity. The second half of this interview is much more the type of interview I was expecting. Much more focused on Christine and her experience and very little interjections from your own experience. It's clear I'm not a fan of yours personally, but you can separate your personality from your work. I'm not a fan of many podcast hosts but I enjoy watching their podcasts because they interview guests well. I could not sit through this interview without noticing how conceded you come across. I understand the urge of relatability by sharing similar experiences, and while that may work sometimes in conversations, although it can also be annoying then too, it definitely doesn't work in a podcast setting. At least not in a podcast where you are attempting at producing content revolved around Financial Literacy and not The Chelsea Life Experience show. I don't think Christine took offense to this, but to not even have looked into Holo Taco and whether or not it's Christine's own brand or a licensing deal? I'm not sure what kind of research you did, if Christine's personal brand wasn't part of it? If it's not with rude intention, it's at the very least unprofessional.

Maybe it's because I can't imagine genuinely liking a job, but the thought having 2-3 profitable businesses and still wanting to spend 40+ hours a week at a desk job (granted, a government job, a lot of benefits associated with that) is mind-blowing. Living the dream and working a regular job just because.

Canada has a shorter work week than the USA. I think it’s around 33 hours. Still, I agree it’s a lot of work.

@@rowanwax I'm pretty sure Canada has a 40 hour work week too, that's the standard for full time almost everywhere. However I (as a European) have noticed that a lot of Americans seem to work more than full time - many people have more than one job, or work overtime for extra income. When you live in a place with decent wages, which I'm guessing Canada has, you can work your 40h/week and feel like it's not excessive. After all, it does ultimately come down to more free time than work. Assuming people are awake 16h/day and work 8h/ day (which is the assumption the 8h work day is based on), plus let's say an extra hour for lunch and another hour for travelling to and from work, that would add up to 10h/day lost and 6h/day that are your own. That makes 50h/week lost and in the workweek you've got 30h free - but then you also have the weekend with 2*16h completely to yourself, making it a total of 32+30=62 hours per week that are your own, compared to the 50 hours you lose for work including travel and lunch (which are 10 semi-free hours per week).

I wish I could work 33 hours a week. I live in Vancouver Canada and every job I've had that is full time is 40 hours a week. Also yes I was paid for only 37.5 hours a week before, at a horrible contracting company through a tech company. There isn't very good job security here either along with the crazy living expenses :(. I'm still in the tech industry and a lot of jobs are contracted or set to temporary full time, even though you work full time for these companies and devote your whole week to the job. As you can tell by the tone of my comment, I'm trying to get out of the 9 to 5 life aha.

Regarding the not getting married stuff, I came from an interesting perspective because I have a household with both parents together who just never got married, yet our family life was exactly the same as everyone else. It really is just a personal choice.

Same! My parents are not married but have been together since they were 16 and still going strong. In my country there isn't really any benefit to marriage except inheritance, and my parents both agree that if one of them dies they want the inheritance to go to me and my brother anyway, so that doesn't bother them. EDIT: Just so there's no misunderstanding, there was no teen pregnancy involved that made them stay together - they had their first child (me) at 26

She has a nearly mocking tone and comes off as “better than” which I don’t appreciate. Christine didn’t deserve these questions. The host should do more research on her guests.
