I loooove how revealing these episodes are! Not in an uncomfortable or specific way, but like how Christine’s descriptions show what she finds interesting or important in a movie. Or how she can give half a description and a year, and knows there’s a good chance Ben will figure it out. Idk how exactly to describe it but I really enjoy it. I guess it’s the parasocial relationship of it all

I know, I thought exactly the same. It was like a sneak peek into Cristine's mind and it was fascinating to me what things interest her in a movies and what doesn't. Like I am also interested about all the technological advancements in movies and whether these things could be one day actually possible. But I am also very much interested in all human relationships and I like to analyze all that in movies as well. Why someone said that line or why the characters become like that etc. So it was a really interesting episode for me 😊

Omg, Cristine describing the Repo Men medical scenario is LITERALLY what we Americans live with. That's why so many people are financially ruined here when faced with the consequences of life-saving surgeries/procedures. Eye opening for me to hear Canadians describe this like it's so strange. EDIT: They don't take back the organs though, lol.

Yep, it's named Gattaca - it's named using the letters used to label neucleotide pairs of DNA! G, A, T, and C stand for guanine, adenine, thymine, and cytosine. They did that specifically since the movie hinged on people's born characteristics/DNA phenotypes as a main plot point. I always thought that was nifty.

My boyfriend's brother actually "woke up" during a dentist visit where they were replacing one of his teeth and removing others. He felt everything. Drilling into his skull, draining his gums, pulling teeth. He said it was like being tortured and all he could do was gargle while he choked on his own blood. Oh and afterwards one of the nurses tried to say he was snoring so he wasn't awake... That was the sound of him drowning in his own blood. Apparently this runs in my boyfriend's family and his grandmother had this issue and so did his dad. In one surgery his dad could feel doctors burning out his prostate.... It sounds like a nightmare.

I was told by a red haired friend that red haired people are more likely to experience this, so anesthesiologists make a point to question gingers about their surgery history before the surgery starts.
@dutchik5107
@dutchik5107 2 жыл бұрын
@@whitefluffydogs9278 they always ask about surgery history. And loads of other history. Like if you drink a lot. Or do certain drugs. You should say it. They won't tip the police. Even not if you are on them at that moment. They are not allowed to. But they may need to use a different one. Or adjust the dose. And if you have anyone in your family that has ever been awake. You should 100% say it. They may not ask that specifically. Because it is so rare. But you should mention it. Maybe they can use a higher dose. Do something different. They always ask about your surgery history. Problem is. Most people don't get operated on regularly

Ben and Cristine's difference in how their childhoods got recorded really struck a chord. My mum has Grundig cassettes of me as a child singing The Power of Love from Back to the future because video cassette tape was so expensive we didn't use it much...
@katie18976
@katie18976 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, same for me. My younger siblings were born after we had phones with good cameras and digital cameras. When I was born we needed to go print the pictures from the camera in printing store or whatever you call it in English. And we had no video camera, those were very expensive back then and very few people had those. So I have only pictures from my childhood, no videos, which sometimes makes me sad. I would like to see how I talked or how I was when I was younger. That's why I took lots of videos from my sisters when they were younger so they can see when they are older. But I agree with Cristine on that part that parents should not post everything about their children on the internet and especially I think it is not okay to use your kids for making money. Because they are too young to understand these things and cannot really consent to this. So I think it is not okay personally.

I once unknowingly watched an alternate ending of the butterfly effect (a DVD option?) where he ends up going back and unaliving himself in the womb… There are very few other changes in the film and I was showing it to a friend as a young teen and we ended up in tears for the rest of the night. I’ll never forget this movie hahaha

There were alternate endings. I think the official release he passes by her in some crowded NY type city but chooses to let go and stop involving himself. There's the director's cut which is the one you mention where he flashes back to his own birth, and ends it. Turns out it wasn't the first time it had happened either. And then there's the cheesy ending where the character learnt nothing and follows the girl.

I recently turned 30, I'm a '92 baby.. I have seen 2/4 movies, 12 year old me was completely obsessed with the butterfly effect and Ashton Kutcher, I immediately knew.. "Boy blacks out" bamm knew lol The other movie I knew was Awake, Funny story when I started dating my now fiancé 5 years ago, he wanted us to watch Awake because it was "one of his favorite movies" He didn't tell me anything b4 watching the movie.. So very Early into our relationship we watched this movie, well actually I watched the movie he watched my reaction threw out and When the movie was over he wanted to know all of my thoughts about it and especially the wife's role in the movie... He then told me he wanted me to watch it because it was one of his biggest fears lol.. Not only was he so afraid that he could be one of those people to experience the phenomenon of being aware during surgery... He was more afraid that he would meet a woman who would trick him into marriage and then conspire to kill him for money... So basically it was a test lol and I guess I passed lol bc we are currently engaged to be married this November... I also immediately knew it was this movie and I would say that you did a great job explaining the movies Cristine.. I hadn't heard of the other 2
