My concern is that OP's mom is concerned about the fighting, but isn't indicating that she plans to hold the sister accountable in any way and expects OP to just roll over and take the serious breach of trust and damage that just happened. Like... How did OP's sister grow up to feel entitled enough to throw out the things, especially food, bought and owned by someone whose house they're a GUEST in? I think there is a lot of context that may be missing here about how they grew up. Was OP's sister the golden child? Especially with the mom's obsession with her "coming home" there sounds like there's an element of that here too, which makes it all the sadder for OP. Definitely NTA. Edit: Made this comment before I finished the video and they hit this point as well lol.

It’s not healthy to throw away perfectly good food. Although not healthy it is still food and should be treated with respect. It’s not your food to throw away to begin with since it’s not your home either. I hope the mom and sister come to their senses.

Uh Op’s mom should consider paying for Op’s food if she wants them to make up, I mean ‘spices’, what on earth is unnatural about spices.

her sister wasted perfectly good, nonspoiled food adding up to a thousand dollars, and just. tossed it. no giving it to others, no consultation its the same as stealing a tv and jewelry adding up to a thousand. and worse because it couldve actually HELPED someone. its not her home, she didnt buy the items, and its not anywhere close to the line to make that judgement call on whats "healthy" for someone else. Had they been closer, I'd say it's something to be worked out, but this sounds like 2 people who are total opposites/dont know each other and just HAPPEN to share parents. and if the sister cant visit her parents while also being on different terms with a sibling, thats on HER. its EXTREMELY unfair of the mom to pressure the poster into making amends rather than being diplomatic or at the very least acknowledging what happened. apologizing to "keep the peace" just creates more issues.

and white bread, canned veggies etc...she sounds like one of those extreme health food people who eats like 5 things cause theyre suspicious of processing. its such a skewed view of "healthy"

The audacity of a GUEST doing something like that is absolute madness. I don't understand how anyone can live their life this way. This shows something inherently wrong with the person. OP should have reacted even more in my opinion.

Nah, Jen wouldn't throw the food out. She'd eat all of the food like a real sibling is supposed to do. Lol, raid the siblings pantry!!!!!

Very common with siblings. My two sisters and I sound almost identical, and my mom and my teenage niece sound super similar to us as well.

My Future mother-in-law goes through our cupboards, reorganised everything and Confiscated a load of food because we had too much. I used to live in the country side so used to stocking up a bit. What got me is she took all the popcorn and ate it and was removed like we’re children. We were 34 at the time and as I had said I had only just filled the cupboard and got it how I like. Also we’re told off for having too make baked beans ..
