My very first DB experience included a short leg on one of these, an Amsterdam-Berlin IC that I entered in Hanover. This was in December, '22. I wasn't supposed to be on it. I flew into Frankfurt from San Francisco, only to find my train from the airport to Wolfsburg was canceled. The DB folks were helpful and gave me an alternate routing starting in Frankfurt Hbf. The first leg of that was late arriving, so I missed my connection in Hanover. The IC came in 15 minutes after I arrived in Hanover but was showing it was sold out except for 1st class, which required a reservation. I had a 1st class ticket, so I got on anyway and found the last seat in one of the compartment coaches. I figured if they had a problem with me being on that train, they would put me off at the next stop, which was my final destination anyway, so I was pretty safe. If someone came along claiming my seat, I'd just stand in the vestibule for the 30 minutes it took to get to Wolfsburg. Now I know such cancellations and delays are more typical than not, but that was an eventful first time experience with DB. The folks in the ticket office at the airport were quite helpful though, as have others I've talked to around the system.

interesting to see the consist of this train. I thought the original ICE trains were sets with a distinct ICE power-car. @@olasola1013 I checked, the first ARkimbz were built in 1989, the last ones in the 2000s. Also, removing Bistro/Restaurant from ICE would be really bad publicity while on IC, they can do it kinda quietly since the entire category of IC is being phased out. Also, you can see how the Bistro cars got smaller over the years: ICE 1 and 2 had full dining car, ICE 3 and 4 only have a half one even though they're just as long. ICE L will have a full one, but the carriages are way shorter. They're trying to minimise the food service to reduce cost while avoiding bad publicity from removing it entirely.
