Simpson Special Pure Badger Shaving Brush the Nitty Gritty

This is a short, sweet review of my travel brush: the Simpson Special, knotted in pure badger. This is a small brush that has a lot of backbone, which is a feature that I truly appreciate. A small brush, it lathers like a champ!

Hello, I've just the Special and the travel tube and it appears that your brush sits just a bit too tall for the tube, just like mine. I wonder if you could let me know if you have found the bristles being squashed a little at the top to be an issue? Thanks.

Hey chorionic, how would u compare the Simpson special pure in stiffness compared to a stiffest bore, horse, or, badger.?

Hello.. I have Special in best badger, and compared with Omega boars(10$) this brush is not that good performer..I get much slicker and better (cushioning, protective) lather with Omega boars. I tried with multiple soaps(arko, proraso red, white) and Nivea shaving creams (white and blue) and result is almost the same..Any advices? Brush is so soft and has almost no backbone... :( Thank you for your help.

The “best” Badger is pretty soft. The only way to add more backbone or make it stiffer is to put the brush handle in your palm and hold the actual bristles between your fingers.

Thank you for your answer. Do you think is it worth for me to get same brush in pure badger for more backbone? I like size and the handle. Is that tube for this Brush Simpson Small?Thanks

Yes, I would recommend getting it. You could sell the Best Badger brush to offset the cost. I would also recommend getting the tube. It is from Simpson and great for traveling! It’s very small, like the brush.

I haven’t tried the Berkeley. For as many brushes as I’ve used, there are waaaaaay more that I haven’t used! Lol!
