You know, seeing how much of a negative influence Abe was in Homer’s life, being uncaring and aloof, constantly arguing with his wife in-front of young homer, getting drunk, taking the pie recipe box, throwing it away and lying to homer about it, I can kinda see why Homer and the rest of the Simpson family keep trying to dump him at the old folks home...
@CaptainTripps4204 жыл бұрын
At least Abe didn't abandon him just to go sleep with a bunch of dirty hippies. I consider Mona entirely responsible for homers crappy upbringing. She could have taken Homer with her but instead left him with a neglectful father who is now a bitter, broken man on top of that thanks to his wife leaving him.

@@CaptainTripps420 Life on the run with a single mother, even one as caring as Mona, might have actually messed Homer up even more and made him an even _less_ productive member of society.
@newdarkneoss3985 Жыл бұрын
So, abe goes to war, comes back, gets homer, goes to work so his family can survive, meanwhile mona leaves homer alone to go protest meaning abe comes home from work and is expected to take care of him, then mona leaves because her own need matter more to her. Yet abe is the bad one huh.
@twigwigsoso11 ай бұрын
@@newdarkneoss3985Y'all, they are both horrible parents. But in opposite ways, Abe was an a provider to homer but offered no emotional support , Mona offered emotional love support but was not a good parent. they are two opposite extremes, it's clear in homer have both of them traumatizing him has shaped him. But i think why people are more willing to forgive Mona vs ave is as simple as the cloth monkey experiment. doesn't matter the wealth you provide, what you try to do. If you are unable to be loving or gentle to a child, a child is going to rather have a useless soft parental figure
@dadflannels2 жыл бұрын
Regarding the development of his childhood’s portrayal, it seems to mirror a psychological shift in Homer too. It wouldn’t surprise me if he had repressed most of his shitty childhood, and meeting his previously-“dead” mother shook something in his unconscious that led to him remembering more and more of it, further influencing his personality and causing him to behave in erratic ways. I guess what I’m trying to say is that even if unintentional on the writers’ part, Homer’s actions and seemingly odd guilts and weird memories are all plausible.
@joeyjakey3 жыл бұрын
I love how Marge fills Homer’s void, she is really the best mother and wife and needs more recognition from the Simpsons fans. It’s a real shame that Mona couldn’t have been a more permanent character, she is so wholesome and it would be nice to have seen her and Marge work together to raise the kids and stopping Homer’s schemes.

You adore a woman who cheated on her husband and abandoned her son just to go bang a bunch of dirty hippies? And before you say she needed to run because the law was after her, she could have taken Homer with her and run away to Canada or just not become an activist in the first place. Mona is one of the most selfish people in the show and I'm glad shes gone.
@curveyouranxiety69264 жыл бұрын
Mona is a fantastic character and she deserved a way better send off than she had. You could see how much she cared about homer and how difficult leaving was for her. She should’ve only appeared in mother Simpsons. Nothing beats that ending.

Mona Simpson is for me my main suspect for having shot Mr Burns - from all the Simpsons family members, she is the one with best motive for it (and the fact that she appears to Homer for the 1st time in decades only a few episodes after Mr Burns was shot is very suspicious), so it astounds me that you have not made a "Who Really Shot Mr Burns" video about such theory.

@Jotari4 жыл бұрын
Given she's not present in the episode in even the slightest way means there's no way in which to watch them with that theory recontexualizing anything. Like, imagine what a video about that would even involve. "Mona did it. She had a motive...that's it." There's no evidence or subtext in the scenes in which to use. And that's not even getting into the whole DNA evidence and Maggie issue.

I felt that Mona was a way for homer to regain his humanity during the later seasons because whenever his mom was a main part of the story I get a feeling of the homer from the first seasons, that homer was a sort of dimwitted, but his heart was in the right place and that homer contrasts with modern homer being a jackass, so nice to see glimpses of humble homer throughout the later seasons.

I think Homer addiction to food is a combination of both. Whenever his mother would spend time with him they would make recipes and eat together(as homer is eating sugar when hugging his mom, he associate that as love). When she left him to join her hippie protest, he eats food to pretend that she’s there with him. As Dr. Phil would say while being digested by Homer “Love does not equal food”

It is one of the stories of the SImpsons that really affects anyone and everyone. It always felt like Homer Simpson's life is (in many ways) the life of a lot of people with single fathers but in his case, it's obvious that it's a pain he carries. He usually acts normal with his mother but it's obvious that too many years have gone by. It is sad.

He’s a stubborn ass like his father but a loving man who does what’s right with a kind heart like his mother, but marge is what stabilizes him from going off the deep end. This was hard to watch There are no good answers to these things. Sometimes I feel like Grampa never gets any credit for being the one who stayed. That is what I liked about the paternity coot. To be honest I lean on the side of Mona was a bad mother and would get a little annoyed when the show would walk back Homer being angry at her. Not to sound like I let Grampa off the hook. Because he was a bad father, but he got called on it. Also he never seemed to find love About the season one line, it could be something Homer internalized about his mother. I guess the moral is people are flawed but have their good points.

Or something Abe told Homer, given Homer's memories of his mother were incomplete, and it adds to the running gag that Abe was an abusive father to Homer growing up.

Abe as a father is kind of a complicated subject, because most of the time we see he was a neglectful jerk and a terrible dad, but we also see a lot of good moments (and he did raise Homer alone) It's kind of a dark grey area, like Homer as Bart's father actually.
