I completely agree with you. I’ve been thinking about this and it might be a stretch but I think the work ethic in the gaming industry was much higher back then because games were not as mainstream as they are now, so the rating of the game would be based of its actual quality. And my other thought is that Will Wright the creator of the Sims was fully involved in the development in the Sims 2. I don’t know how much his influence made it the thorough and detailed game that it is, but I came across this really old E3 presentation where he gives first glances at Sims 2. You could see in his attitude and behavior that he lived and breathed the game. He was giving it all to make it up to his standards. This is what we are missing now, I think. What do you think?

Sims 3 memories were good I guess but they didn’t feel like they impacted the gameplay like they did in sims 2. They just feel like a random screenshot tbh but it’s good to have them unlike sims 4. I didn’t even know sims 4 had memories for the longest time that’s how forgettable they are. You have to create your own memories here and you have to force your sim to remember them unlike in sims 2. I distinctly remember there being a different memory system in TS4 in the beginning, where you actually could choose the associated emotion as well as it being more like a photoalbum of sorts for each specific sim/family (my memory's a bit fuzzy as to how it worked, but it definitely didn't store all screenshots you had ever taken in the same place the way it does now). I had a family where the photoalbum was a huge part of the story, where I captured everything special that happened and would go back to look at how far the family had come. Then, back in 2015 I believe, they updated the memory system to what it is now. Sadly. Does anyone else remember the old memory system? I miss it.

There was a memory timeline for each individual sim (not really a photoalbum, I remembered it wrong) where all the memories you saved for that specific sim were stored and then all the screenshots were separate. It still didn't have automatic memories, but definitely a much less cluttered system than what we have today.

Sims 2 memories are awesome. Very impactful and helpful tool to understand the backstory of your sims. Sims 3 took it to a level where it was just a hot ass mess. I disable it and make my own memories of photos and vids for use on my Simblr blog. If EA considers doing Sims 5 I hope that the team can improve on memory making or just bring back the exact formula from Sims 2.

My random idea: you could drag a certain memory to a sim and then your sim will start chatting about the memory with the other sim

I am glad someone else has found the memory option in the Sims 4. I fell asleep with youTube on a while back and a James Turner video from 6 years ago happened to mention this and I went exploring and lo and behold there it was! The Sims 4 team has made active choices to just stop acknowledging things that aren't working- memories, whims, interactions that were gameplay from smaller packs that stopped working as new packs were released. Also if you do have them remember a memory it adds the buff of the memory emotion to your current emotion. Also Also it is not just your screenshots it is every selfie and photograph your sims have taken as well and it always starts with the oldest content, not the newest and isn't filtered by save file so the longer you play the deeper you have to scroll to find something related to the sims you are currently playing.

Wow, by the time you get the memory logged of Travis asking Summer to be his girlfriend, they will have gotten married and have 3 kids! My one complaint about Sims 2 memories is things like say a toddler getting memories of a cousin getting on the deans list or things like that, when they don't even know that particular sim although they are related. But considering the alternatives I'll live with it. Sims 3 pop-ups everytime my sim would breathe got old real fast! One of the first Sims I made when I first played Sims 3 was enthusiastic about the outdoors. You can just imagine the number of pop-ups and "memories" she got everytime she stepped outdoors!

something i really liked in the sims 2 is that they could remember something on their own, like they'd be eating their mac and cheese and think, hey i had a nice childhood! I thought that was cute. And i remember one sim who one recalled her husband cheated on her and got angry again briefly, I'm not sure if that was an actual thing or I made it up but i never played with mods

Memories are amazing! You can catch a sim thinking about something (positive or negative) that happened to them in their child stage in their adult stage, which is so realistic!

A lot of players don't because it's not very user-friendly. Frankly, I think they purposely buried it because they didn't want to make it work properly. It's bare bones, as are most features in Sims 4.

I always loved the memories in The Sims 2. I spent hours fixing them in SimPE before playing a hood. The Smith, Capp and Monty families are the hardest to make sure everyone lines up. I had to create a spreadsheet with their ages to make sure everyone was consistent. I think The Sims 1 had "memories" too, but it was just screenshots and you could give them a description.

Sims 2 is the game i played the most of in my life (never had a powerful enough pc for the sims 3) so when the sims 4 came out qith its customization and better performance i was so excited but tbh without the memories its so hollow like, such a little thing impacted the story so much, it encourages you to give them great lives and let them experience milestones so they'll have good memories, its like an in game achievements/trophy system in a way

I wish the screenshots in TS4 had albums separated by household like in TS2. I feel like even that would make it easier. But I agree about the panel for each individual sim and a little thought bubble would be even better. I have literally always taken pictures of everything since way back to TS1 days so I don’t mind capturing them myself, but once you have enough households it gets annoying and overwhelming trying to navigate the screenshot manager with everyone’s snapshots all in one place.

I think something that is underrated about the sims 3 memories are that they show how many days it has been since the memory took place. I LOVE going back and seeing how many days it has been since a certain interaction happened. It’s really helpful in legacy save files.
@powerpuff4ever4 жыл бұрын
I’ve only played Sims 4 but the preloaded townies seem so fun to play with in Sims 2 because of this. I legitimately haven’t played with the existing sims since I bought the game and in a lot of cases I start a new save file with a copy of a file with exclusively original sims that already have relationships with each other. I just hate that families and groups of best friends like barely know each other and have no history. I didn’t realize TS4 even _had_ a memory system but it definitely feels like an afterthought. I love your idea of being able to change the emotions on a memory. Like a long time couple breaks up and so you change the memory of their first date to sad because your sim is heartbroken. I’d loveeeeeee that little bit of extra interest and it makes a more immersive walkthrough of old saves

So, its not quite the same but in Sims 1, I liked how the game took automatic screenshots like “Our Wedding” and “Burglar!”. It was a memory system for the player, in a way. I liked the whole photo album / story component of sims 2 also. I miss this in sims 4 so much. And personal biographies and detailed family relationships titles (sims 3 would show step siblings, uncles and aunts, etc) i could go on 😅

You might already have a plan to compare different expansions that have similar themes throughout the three games, but i would love to see seasons!! I feel as though seasons is one of the few things the Sims 4 actually did best, and it would be really interesting to see a thorough comparison between the three games. Also, I just found your channel a few days ago and I love all of your content. Keep up the great work!! :)

Great video as always Cindy! I've always found myself gearing towards sims 3 because of the open world, customization and depth of gameplay; sims 4 has always been a love-hate thing for me especially since SO much is missing from the core game, but I love the build mode and CAS + the beautiful graphics. Depth of gameplay is nowhere near what it should be, and I'm honestly hoping that Snowy Escape and the pack specific and base game updates coming will really make me want to play again, but as of now I'm completely LOVING sims 3 and the gameplay it provides for me (especially your pleasantview recreation!). I honestly hope that EA will listen to simmers and either fix the core issues with the sims 4, or remaster the sims 2 and put it back on origin! (I'm begging you EA, the sims 2 is literally so iconic🥺)

I think the Sims 4 emotions should be based on the emotion tied to the moodlet the sim gained from the event, with the ability to change it if you think another one suits the moment better. I also think sims should automatically reminisce about the memories, which could be triggered by locations, time of day, seasons, objects, sims they’re with. So, for example, if a sim would be at a park with a sim that once broke up with them at that park, they could become sad, depending on how they felt back then. Or maybe a sim’s relative died on a holiday and they will think about it and get sad for a little whenever that holiday comes around.
@PleasantSims4 жыл бұрын
That is a great idea!! I think the auto-remembering would really make it perfect!

I've just been using the screenshot for my own personal memory storage. Didn't even realize the save memory for sims thing. But yes, it would be awesome to have the correct moods for each memory.
@minaermelyn4 жыл бұрын
What I also like about sims 2 memories, is that the strong memories basically create moods. If your Sim is grieving or was recently abducted, they will end up crying about it and not being able to get out of it sometimes, and it will only get better with time.
