My favorite bug happened a long time ago. I found the suspect, arrested them, and when I went back to the Police Station, the suspect was gone. I couldn't lock them up, or interrogate them, or anything. They were gone. I kept issuing APB after APB, but the suspect would always disappear at the station. I finally figured out what was happening: the game had randomly assigned the police chief as the criminal. At the crime scene, the Sim was the criminal, but back at the station, they were the chief.

I honestly understand how something like this can be missed considering how old GTW is, but there reeeeally should be more robust compatibility testing between individual packs to avoid stuff like this. If major gameplay features of older packs can be broken by newer ones that's kind of a problem lmao

I've played this career many times. A trick when you get the "go on patrol" requirement is to go on patrol, then go straight back to headquarters. You'll immediately be given other tasks, and not have to worry about going on patrol. (Which, as you've noticed, is really bugged.) Also, when gathering evidence, always gather much more evidence than they request you to get. The more clues you have, the easier it is to catch the suspect. The problem with the clothing clues is that they don't take account of weather; the clues always reference everyday clothing. You may have to use MCCC dresser to force anyone you encounter to wear their everyday outfit, to make sure you have the right suspect. Or just get enough clues that you'll get multiple references for hair and eye color.

When you have to arrest the right person and you have at least 4 or 5 tips you can pause the game as soon as you arrive on the "arrest" lot. Then you search for the only other sim that is hanging around there - that is the "criminal". If you wait to long, other sims will spawn and then you have to search on your own.

@@Leiandra18 This is true... usually. I've occasionally spawned on a lot with two other Sims at exactly the same time (my game is set to pause on load), and then you have to finagle a bit. MCCC dresser is a great help in that case. Another mod that helps is the Get Sim Info mod. It will tell you exactly what role each Sim has on the lot, whether "suspect" or "decoy", in this case. That's kind of cheaty, but it's another option if you're desperate.

honestly it's not bugged you walk around waiting for a fight after fight you can give tickets as for any house crime you go to you also need to search for clues the more clues you have makes it easier to find the sim that is wrong i played this many many times

The detective career is actually probably my favorite out of the three. I love looking for suspects based on clues. The doctor and scientist one feel more repetitive, plus you run out of time because you have to keep walking in those huuuge lots. The only downside is the constant loading screens in this one.

I like the alien world in the scientist career but the tasks are always weird. I have asked so many coworkers for materials but rarely done anything with any of them. And they ask you to make potions you don’t have any ingredients for 😅 once you reach the top of a career they should let you just do what you want in the workplace.

I've never actually had a problem with the patrols. I don't know how it's working fine for me, but it is. Usually it's the sims that spawn with me that immediately start fighting or cursing at me, so it's a matter of like two minutes and I'm back at the station. The only bug for me is probably the chief, because the task that tells me to talk to them never completes. But that's such a minor thing I don't really mind.

I wonder if in Kayla's case it's because she has NAPs turned off or one of her mods is influencing things like NAPs and it's aggressively deterring that sort of NPC behavior (it's probably the case that NAPs use the same code since Get to Work came out long before Eco Lifestyles, you just can't influence the "suspect" behavior and it's somehow more temporary) and in your case, since it's just the chief, it's because some other AI code is taking priority, cancelling it out or gumming up the works, and keeping the chief from responding to it in any way that triggers completion.

Kelsey recently did the detective career for peach gen and it seemed okay. James Turner was also doing a test run with it on his members only channel and it seemed OK except when he cheated to jump levels. Not sure if they used any unusual mods. I haven't tried it recently. I know when I did you shouldn't really jump around... but that was before the fears were added.

From my current experience, the doctor career literally demand a high logic skill. It's required to make some correct diagnostic of the patients. In the detective career, you can get yourself on ANY lot from ANY world. Here again, a high logic skill is of GREAT help. The use those analysis apparatus is based on your logic skill : High logic skill = better result, often in less time. So, get yourself a chess table, a telescope or a microscope ASAP. Also, get a library and buy the three books about logic and studiously read them. Get one of those wall trash chute. They cost §0 each. Bonus, you never need to empty them and they can't get knocked over.

As someone who kinda likes this career here's what you can think about next time: 1:"Talk to the chief" is an interaction. There's a specific interaction you have to choose. 2: On patrol you have to remove yourself from the conversation for them to get into a fight or litter. I agree that patrol is annoying though. It is! 3: The suspects description is in everyday clothes so they can look different if they're in another season. 4: Why do people shower in the rain at the station?! Happens to me all the time too. 😂😂

'Talk to the chief' is a specific interaction. It really needs to pop up on the main screen when you click on them though because it took me days to find!

The way you get the credit for talking to the chief is: You go under friendly, small chat, and then it'll pop up as talk to the chief. For the interrogation of the suspects, the bar is good, you want to fill it and certain things work better depending on the sim. Some sims prefer evidence and the Good Cop, where others do better when you are a Bad Cop. Also, I found that having the perk where you learn all the sims traits as soon as you introduce yourself is super helpful.

I think the detective career is my favorite of the active careers. I’ve done it several times. For talk to chief, there’s actually a social named exactly that so only using that option will tick off that task. I think interrogating ticks off when you get the confession from the suspect so once it’s give you the they’re guilty pop up, use the get confession social. Going on patrol is hit and miss for me. I’ve definitely had it work more than not.

I actually personally love the detective stuff, being I love that aspect of things I actually enjoy it more than the doctor stuff, I love the more hands-on nature of it rather than the beginning of the doctor career where every single thing you have to pass off to someone else till you get promoted like three or four times.

The police career is actually my favorite of the get to work jobs. It just isn't intuitive, like when it tells you to go on patrol, just go and then immediately return to the station for other things to do, you still get the points. You also don' have to remember the clues as they are in your notebook. Also until they added more traits having the observant trait made it easier to find people as seasons allows them to change out of their base clothes so those clues don't help.

I have played the detective career a couple of times and I've not yet have had to deal with trying to arrest a Werewolf; but, I do know that trying to complete an in work task is left as being half-finished and yet the boss gives you high praise for it anyway. I think the way to keep possible sim fears at bay is if you made the sim Outgoing and use traits that are opposite to the squeamish trait as well. I guess the reason why I don't seem to encounter glitches quite like that in my copy of the sims 4 is because I use a PC instead of an LP or maybe because I don't have mods installed or maybe its both. I do get glitches in my copy of the sims 4, but nothing quite as extreme, when I played the Detective career.

For all the reasons you just mentioned, I have always made my Peach gen go to uni (and turned aging off or on long lifespan) so that I start higher up in the career. There is no need for the patrol thing after a while. And if you spend most of the crime scene investigating picking up clues and photos and evidence, you only need to spend your workdays grinding out clues on the board and in the lab, and then you get to issue apb’s in no time. But that kinda beats the purpose of the career, maybe. A little grindy, but I find it to be the most effective way to get to level 10 here.

Kayla, the detective career doesn't really work, in my peach generation, every time I had to use the TOOL mod to place the boss and the criminals in the correct place, every time I arrived on the lot, the boss spawned very far from the police station and, worse, she was a celebrity.

1. Patrol: Someone above said it could be an issue caused by NAP, which I can't speak to because I don't have that pack. But, in my experience, if I don't interact with the Sims on patrol, they will fight or litter faster. I just pop in, say nothing, then watch whichever Sim is angry. They will usually start a fight or kick over a trash can and then it's citation time. 2. Loading screens: Evidence can be used for any case. So if you go to a crime scene and question every witness, take every picture, gather every piece of evidence, and take it all back to the station, then analyze as many as you need to feel confident in your APB (I usually went for 5 or so clues, I always wanted age, gender, hair, and a trait because clothes could change with weather). Then after you finish with that case, get a new assignment and you can use the evidence you already gathered for the next one. Head straight for the analyzer or computer and process that evidence. I got to the point where I only had to leave the station every two or three cases. And once you've gotten a couple promotions, they don't ask you to go on patrol anymore. So that cuts your load screens down to just when you're going out to make an arrest.

I love the detective career! I don’t think I experienced these glitches but it’s been a bit since I’ve played. What’s interesting to consider, though, is this pack predated seasons. So when it says the suspect is wearing shorts, it may change depending on the season and outfit the sim has for the season.

The "talk to chief" option is under "small talk". I've also never had problems with going on patrol. You can take pictures of every piece of evidence you collect. It speeds things up to just do both on every single item. Too bad you found it so difficult to navigate.

I find it easier to click on the sim, click toddler/infant care, and the just command them to feed/change/bath the baby. Cause if you click the objects they ignore you and if you have the baby "ask for help" they only do it correctly half the time. But I get a 90% success rate with clicking infant/toddler care on the adult sims.

I tried this career not too long ago and while I spotted someone fighting on my first patrol, I haven't seen anyone fighting or littering since. Also, talking to the chief never did anything either!!

I couldn't complete the detective career for Not So Berry cause every time I tried to interrogate a suspect the suspect and my sim would glitch right at the end of the interrogation and it would restart.... I had to cheat the case completes to reach the top of the career 🙃

My biggest issue with the detective career is when you do put out an APB the game loads your sim and the suspect first, and only after its loaded will other sims show up. So you can literally get away with arresting the first sim you see every time.

I just got on PC and I got the GTW pack because it was on sale. I'm just here to say that this pack works perfectly fine, when you do NOT have any other packs. I guess packs like seasons, occult sims and so on, can sort of screw it over (the detective career at least). Sort of happy that I got the smooth gameplay right now, and I am having SO much fun with the Detective career but looking much forward to the scientist, i hear that's the best one.

When it says talk to the chief on the tasks there is a special option to talk to them in I think the friendly options so you can't just talk to the chief normally.

I remember one time my clues were a teen with red hair and when I issued an apb 2 teens with red hair spawned in the minute the lot loaded (I also think they both had a trait in common as well). I liked the career, something about trying to figure out who was the suspect using the clues you gathered made it very engaging for me. The downside is obviously the constant loading screens you have to sit through.

Get this pack on sale. I use it to have estate sales when my elders die. I rezone the lot into a retail store and have their relatives buy it when they live on another lot. Then they use it like a retail store and make their inheritance from selling the furniture. I also recommend taking photos of stores you like in real life and recreate them in Magnolia Promenade. The ones with the world are really terrible.

To anyone interested in playing this active career, other sims will usually defer to your sim if you try to use an in-use computer. I think if you just click on the computer and try to do something, they'll usually cancel their interaction and get up

you can disable wants & fears in gameplay options, but if you dont do it at the very beginning they'll still get the moodlets if they already developed some and come back even if you cheat them away 100 times lol. so annoying. i had a paranormal investigator who was afraid of the dark and no matter what i did i just had the scared moodlet 24/7

I just started playing the detective career and I haven’t had as many bugs, but the only packs I have are Get to Work and Cottage Living so maybe some of the other expansions cause some of the bugs. Every time I go on patrol the Sims that spawn with me immediately break out in fights and I can write them up. I DO have to always kick other Sims off the computers though 😂

Detective career is my favorite after Scientist. I've never found it buggy. Paranormal Investigator is buggy, no ghosts ever appear so it makes it hard to complete a shift.

I remember when i first played it, I arrested my suspect and took them back to the station. The game bugged and the suspect never showed up. Went to multiple lots but the sim wouldn't spawn and I couldn't complete the day. Quit and never looked back. Judging by the comments, since the later packs came out, its hard to find suspects with seasons installed

To talk to the chief of police, you have to click “friendly” and then “small talk” and then the “talk to chief” option will pop up 😊. Also if you don’t see clues, if you click the ground, the option to “search for clues” populated and then a clue will highlight in that area if it’s there 😊

Here are the issues i've run into: 1) When I arrest someone, they won't come back to the station with me. 2) After the first few days, ONLY the suspect will be at the APB site, making it too easy. 3) Suspect will often NOT be wearing what was in the description due to changing clothes for some kind of activity. 4) Unknowingly, i accepted my police chief as my roommate. This was fine until I had to force him onto my family due to a different bug (kicking out a different roommate kicked police chief out instead when i wanted to keep him). After he became part of my family, a different police chief replaced him until i kicked him out of my family. 5) Sometimes my sim wont complete the interrogation and puts the suspect back in the cell. This forces me to have to start the whole interrogation process again, thus wasting tons of time

The game didn't load any evidence for one of the crime scenes when I played. I got there and I was so confused. But I've noticed dream home decorator not letting me do the reveal, paying me, then not letting me leave cause I haven't done the reveal yet. Also on patrol you have a list of traits or a physical description you have to look for.

When I play that career, the prisoners are *always* Japanese. It feels rather discriminatory but I suspect it's because the name generation for Sims is so strong for Snowy Escape names.

i agree with you. since snowy escape 99% of my townies are japanese so when the game needs a townie for a prisoner or suspect they usually just end up being japanese because there aren’t many other townies to pick from.

i’m playing the detective career because i’m doing nsb and though peach gen has completed it, her husband hasn’t. i’m trying to get him to level 10 just for personal happiness but when i issue an ABD there’s no suspects matching the clues and when i decided to arrest the sim that showed up at all the lots (though they don’t have the right clues) the suspect didnt show up at the station with me so i couldn’t interrogate!!!

I always have to make my sims fight someone on patrol so I can get it over

I LOVE the get to work careers; but the patrol system is super bugged so usually I just immediately return to the station and try and do all the other jobs it lists rather than spend all work day looking for a sim to give a citation too. If it wasn't for the buggy patrol, Detective would be my favourite but Doctor is the best instead imo

I’m playing this in my current save. It took forever to get the patrol thing. Which is annoying but i def am enjoying this career again

Fyi, the "talking to the chief" didn't work because there is an actual interaction called "Talk to the chief" that resolves that objective! You should find it if you click on the chief and dig around the pie menu!

Every since the infant update all my Sims have been complaining about not having dreams fulfilled and how they are depressed over it, it's annoying

I agree, I love the dr career, and play the scientist career in every save (The cloning machine is very useful). I vote yes for a video on the science career

When I would have to interrogate a suspect the game would glitch and never carry out the action or the suspect would disappear all together so it made the detective career almost impossible to play for me 😢

I live this little tidbits. I bought all the DLC in just over a year, so I don’t know all the hidden gems.

I played the detective carreer about a year ago and had a weird blank pop up and for whatever reason was promoted three levels to the top of the carreer (vanilla gameplay).

I just realized, this career doesn't even make much sense because sims 4 lacks burglars

I guarantee that the chief is erratic. All my erratic sims are constantly trying to shower in the rain. can't stand it

I have issues with Evergreen Harbor. No matter where I go my sims just stand there doing nothing. Bugs are so annoying.

seasons made this career annoying considering hot and cold outfits. well aside from the fact the last time I played as a detective the chief was never there, whenever I needed to interact with them. I'm hoping oneday after dineout they update this pack
