♦ Sims 2 vs Sims 3 vs Sims 4 : PlantSims

Hello everyone!
This is a brief comparison on the most important aspects of plant sims in the latest 3 Sim games.
Plant Sims were introduced in Sims 2 with seasons as some sort of epidemic if you ask me because your sim becomes one just if they overuse pesticides...quite interesting huh? Their name is pretty self explanatory...They're a plant simulator...And it seems people like them because ever since Sims 2 they've been making a comeback, the most recent was about a month ago when EA gave them as a challenge with the latest patch. Basically you had to talk to plant Sims to get beans to get a portal to look for the forbidden fruit, at least that's what I've seen...But I didn't do the challenge to be honest...Oops? Remember since this is free content it's very short and some say they make a comeback but no one knows for sure.
So anyways, here's the comparison and I hope I didn't let anything important out.
My opinion?
Sims 2: These came with seasons and I like how they made this as some sort of punishment for using pesticides..Although, I can only imagine you have to do this on purpose since you have to use them about 15 times! So a plant Sim is no accident if you ask me...but I like the concept, what I don't like is that their life is SO much shorter than a normal Sim's. But their abilities are good enough and they're fun to control.
Sims 3: This time they came with University and they're some sort of "failed" experiment, this is the introduction of the forbidden fruit and every Sim who dares to eat it will become a plant Sim. I do like their abilities here better than in Sims 2 and I like how they keep their lifespan with 6 stages and 3 unique outfits for Plant Sims.
Sims 4: I guess this one was supposed to be fun because of the challenge but if I were them I would've let the challenge be a thing..forever (the other games kinda had them as a challenge because being a plant sim is not easy). Now the only way to get them is with cheats and they don't get special clothing or special abilities...just special...hair? and needs. It's a little short in comparison to its predecessors but then again it's free. I just hope they take them into consideration for future expansions...maybe in seasons they'll have more interactions or they'll very useful to keep plants alive on a dry summer or something. But one can only hope...
So for me it'd be Sims 3's clothing, lifespan and abilities mixed with Sims 2's interactions and ways to reproduce (I love making babies that easily)
But that's just my opinion, be sure to share yours ;)

@A It was a timed-event, obviously they weren't going to make it too in-depth, and now you need to use cheats and debug to access it, it wasn't meant to be used after the short event You can bitch about a lot of things in TS4 sure, even that they didn't actually add plantsims in the game but complaining that it's lazy because it doesn't have much depth...well yeah they weren't going to go all out on an occult that was for an event and you can't use afterwards without debug mode

☆ lovelyz girls ☆ the plant Sims are not official yet in the Sims 4 it was just a test one day they most likely are going to update the Sims or make a pack that is better. And you have to remember the Sims 2 and 3 plant Sims you had to pay for. But the Sims 4 ones are free which I have to admit makes a lot of sense cause your right they are crappier but it was just a test.

It's also the same kind of thing I'd do--the second I started up Sims 2 for the first time, I started trying to remake my favourite families from 1 to see how they'd look. There's just something _about_ making exactly the same person in all the graphic-styles and putting them side-by-side that's so...COOL. :)

In The Sims 3, if you are in University, you can sign up to be a "Science Test Subject". It may not happen the first time, but after a testing round, you will get the botanis minotirous moodlet and will turn into a plant sim. Easiest and Fastest way in my opinion :)

The way I see it, the Sims 2 has the best gameplay value. It has funny options and is all over quirky. It's left an example for the other two. The Sims 3 is very large and deep. There's always something to do and somewhere to go. Perfect for long lasting generations. The Sim 4 is pretty. There's certainly more realism, especially in the facial expressions and toddlers. But all of their efforts seem to have went into character creation, and not gameplay. There's really not much to do outside of home, no more bookstores or markets. You can't even see where you work! The sims 4 I feel was only made to keep up with the times. But it could change, it could be better. We'll just have to wait. All in all though I like the way the Sims 3 plant mod best.

Definitely agreed. I recently went back to playing the Sims 3 and I was surprised at how short days felt compared to Sims 4. I could probably play 3-4hrs straight without feeling bored or using the fast forward button. While on the Sims 4 I often let days pass, and if feels like you have to do all the work, like you have to add the personality to the game when before the game was the one with the personality.

I totally agree! I honestly haven't opened the Sims 4 in an entire year after getting The Sims 2 Super Collection for my MacBook like it doesn't even have all the EPs like the Ultimate Collection but the gameplay is easily some of the best I've ever had. When people say we should "lower our expectations" because "it was a free update" okay but when a life state that was fully fleshed out in the previous two games in expansion packs is added "for free" in the base game over a decade later, it should either be fleshed out as in an expansion pack as well, or just a nod to the life state and not an official "This is the Sims 4 PlantSims." If they couldn't flesh it out as a free update (which is fair) they should've fleshed it out for an expansion or game pack like they did with other supernatural/occult Sims. Like we really shouldn't have to lower our expectations from the quality of past games for a modern game that costs $40 (sadly $60 when I bought it in 2014) whose EPs ALSO cost $40.

They're one of the coolest of the supers in Sims 3. Unfortunately, some of their special animations and abilities won't work in my game and as yet, I'm still unable to find out why. Here's something interesting though; Sims 3 plant children, along with genies are the only child sims in the game self-sufficient enough to survive on their own.

The normal lifespan of a Sims franchise is 5 years and Sims 4 is halfway there and there are only 3 expansions....I'm really starting to think this will have 30 stuff packs 20 game packs and 7 expansions at most! I miss sims 3. I remember I was always so excited when I got a expansion pack. I was so excited when I got pets, supernatural, into the future, island paridise, and generations! Eventually I got all the expansion packs cause I love sims 3 SO much (I did not get the stuff packs though cause I could never find them at my local target)! I got pets, supernatural, into the future, island paradise, seasons, university, ambitions, late night, showtime, generations, and the one where you could go to China, Egypt, and another place. I used to play sims for hours and hours and my mom hated it because I played on her computer. I watched lets plays on sims even more. My favorite you tuber to watch was life simmer. But now every one plays sims 4 and ignores sims 3☹️. I wish sims 3 was popular again Edit: they are making a sims 5 now

I got all the expansions, but the only two stuff packs I bought were High End Loft and Town Life; the rest just look like a waste of money. I used to watch LifeSimmer's LPs, but what became of her? She used to upload regularly then just disappeared. Not everyone is playing Sims 4; there are plenty (like me) who still prefer 2&3 and won't even touch 4 with good reason - it's crap! If Sims 5 turns into another lackluster cash grab, it could very well be the one that kills the franchise. There's talk of it being an online game and if that's the case, they can already count me out.

In Sims 2 if you are a witch/warlock you can actually brew the cure yourself. It is true. You can be a witch-plant sims hybrid. You can be a hybrid of many different things. I even had one of mine be an Alien-Witch-Vampire hybrid

Sims 2 and 3 both have unique perks to them, so it's a tough choice between those two. I think I might go with 3 due to their more involved interactions, but 2 still has some neat stuff like the flower-head. Pretty minor thing, but it makes them more... plantlike than just a person covered in leaves and stuff. Especially since it actually has a function, that is to spread pollen. 4 loses by a wide margin obviously, they didn't even try. ...Also, is nobody gonna mention that toddler plantsims in Sims 2 are cannibals? Kinda disturbing. Ah, I really wish Sims 3 and 4 were as metal... 3 is my favourite, but even without having played 2 I know it has a lot of stuff I'd love to see in more recent Sims games.

Georgia Min I only got to play the sims 2 when I was really young and barely remember or understand what I was doing, and I don't have it anymore and I only have TS3 and TS4 now and I still think the sims 2 was the best out of them all, sims 2 and sims 3 are probably my favorites because of the features. Sims 3 was def the best without question, they had way more things to them. Sims 2 was great too, but in sims 3 they improved them. I love that they don't just jump from toddler to adult like in sims 2. I also love how in sims 3 they all have different leaves/clothing depending on age and its fully customizable.

Okay many are not reading the description so: REMEMBER Platsims from Sims 4 were an update, these are the only ones who came for free since in Sims 2 they came with seasons and in Sims 3 they came with university. So let's wait and see if they stay like this or if they later come with an expansion or game pack.

While Sims 4 made leaps and bounds towards being a better game, especially with Building and CAS, it has a lot of draw backs. My first issue has always been the non-open world anymore, but I brushed it off for the sake of frame rates vs details (smaller the area, the more details without the frame rate being shit). Aspects of game play have also GREATLY improved but some have stayed the same or got worse. Whilst I will still fully support the growth of TS4 and EA, I hope to see as more content comes out the game starts to improve (and we get actual plant sims and not this BS, even if it was free)

I don't really care if it's open world or not, but I hate that there's no cars and that when you look at a city it's just a picture and you can't change how the city looks yourself, like you can in sims 2 :(

I like the customizing of the open worlds, I liked that part of TS2. Also, we have to be patient for cars because I garateen, if they gave us toddlers they will give us cars. Also, maybe try looking at the good qualities of this game and not negatives. Just advice.

I'm mad at the fact that I can't make moving easy and I have to go to manage worlds to do so and it resets the money from the sim that you split from the family. It sucks so much I don't know how did they even come out with that. My sims son or daughter can't move out having money, they need to move with someone else or with the whole family. It also removes immersion

Y'know, Sims 2 through 4 can really be represented by their Plant-Sim. The Sims 2: Something New and Novel. The Sims 3: An upgrade to the previous entry. Introducing new features while removing others, but still relatively great. The Sims 4: Way too unfulfilling. Previous versions done way more and what this version does has already been done before in some better way. It's almost uncanny how good the description of each are.

I'm..torn...a lot of Sims 3's stuff would be so cool...if it wasn't for the LACK OF CONTROL OVER OTHER HOUSES! Sure, you can turn Story Progression off, but without a hack the other households you care about will still AGE, and without _another_ hack they'll still lose their memories, inventory, descendants, etc! I don't want to play just one family forever as if they're the protagonists in an RPG, it's a GOD GAME, I want to switch between my beloved Simmies and nurture them _all_ personally without messing up the time of the others; is that so much to ask? And I am saying this as somebody who never, EVER, turns off Free Will and often even plays things like Asylum or ISBI challenges--I mean nurture them as in, simply being able to even SEE how their lives go, and not have them happen without me. :( It's really a shame, because a LOT of stuff in Sims 3 is really cool. But the whole overall...structure and feel of it is different, everything is slowed down, and the game really, really, REALLY expects you to stick with one household and treat the others as if they're just the NPC's in your Sims' lives, with the only way they can graduate to PC status being if they marry in or something. I like the new skills, Create-a-Style, the recipes, the way they learn, the new animations, mermaids, hoverboards, the personality traits, all that stuff is awesome but I'd be SO much happier if I could play Sims 3 in a way that _felt_ more like Sims 1 and 2, where time doesn't pass for YOUR people until you _say_ it can, and switching households is as casual as just clicking a mouse button. So I guess my ultimate Sims game would be an amalgamation of Sims 2 and 3 that doesn't exist. :P (4 I haven't tried yet, for anyone wondering.)

There’s a way to get the forbidden fruit without cheating in Sims 4. Max out your gardening skill, and buy the rare seeds packets. Open them and you have a chance of getting a bean. You can buy the stump in build mode. Once you have all six or so beans place them in the stump and water it. Them go into the tree as normal.

A few weeks ago when I played TS4 I befriended a dust bunny in my bathroom, which later found a seed/fruit for my sim. After eating the seed my sim transformed into a plant sim and that's the first time I learnt of the existence of this type of sim ... A few minutes later I found being a plant sim quite boring and loaded my saved game and sold the seed for a few hundreds bucks.

Ooof -- yeah, Sims 4 really dropped the ball on PlantSims. Imagine if they'd been a proper supernatural life state. . . I actually like the Sims 2 skin pattern the best, though maybe you could have variations of both (and both games' hairs) for customization purposes. Along with variations on all the special outfits. . . Ah well, as you said, they were a free challenge in this game, instead of being designed as a real life state. Still, we could have gotten more to do with them over the five days they were planty!

But yea sims 2 not must customisation but n't much can be said about the sims 4 . In sims 3 you can clearly see what you can do with the outfits and all the effort put into the game. Sims 4 is just not as great as I thought it would be. But still not much can compare to the huge step with the sims 2 and all I'm trying to say is, I like them all but some more effort has been put into some then others

Why weren't the plant sims added to Sims 3 in Seasons expansion, like in the second game? It is the only expansion that makes sense theme-wise, maybe with the exception of Supernatural.

PlantSims came with the University expansion for Sims 3 due to the focus on the skills for Nerd (Science), Jock(Social Networking) and Rebel(Street Art) groups, and the addition of the science lab item that's capable of cloning Sims who have a high enough skill, transmuting one seed to that of another or at least improving / degrading the quality and a few other relatively cool and interesting qualities it can be used for. Could give a background for how the forbidden fruit came to be leading up to the Sims 2 (since in the timeline, Sims 3 takes place 25 years PRIOR to the Sims 2). Just an idea, though.

During the developement of sims 4 the eaxis head said a multitude of times that they won't be bringing back the occults and all the weird shit from ts2 & ts3. Which has been true for the most part, they've only brought on the more 'normal' lifestates, vampires & aliens. My biggest issue with sims 4 is just that, its too normal. I mean sure, randomly people will do push ups on the street, but in sims 3 I once witnessed some weird satanic ritual of a vampire passed out in the middle of a park, surrounded in a circle formation by six meowing stray cats. And like, the sims was weird as heck too. I just feel like taking away the bizarre and weird crap is taking away a key component of the game franchise :(

I doubt it, the devs said so many times when TS4 was in developement that they won't bring the weird shit from the previous games, which has been largely true. Seeing as though they have the code and most animations Ready to go, it's possible, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I feel like if they bring them back it'll be just like how they brought back pimples -> a meaningless Stencil decal. A functional acne you had to apply cream on to & that would flare if you didn't take proper care of your teens was already a thing in THE SIMS 2 BASEGAME. That was 2005. 2017 a non-functional face detail for ts4. Its ridiculous.

I still have all three on my PC cause they all have their strengths. The personality system for example. I sort of liked the aspirations from sims 2 as general values/priorities (wish they'd finished crafts and power, or if there was a way to add them via mod), but the trait system was the best in sims 3. Both are kinda weaksauce in sims 4 but it's strength is in the skills & how they give you extra interactions & abilities. Sometimes I wish I could just combine the best from all.
