Yeah...the king took it a little too far. She was finally getting the hang of hard work and humility, but she still got punished for it.
@MissyMona13 жыл бұрын
I liked it but I feel like the moral of the story is sorta lost. Seriously I understand not making the Princess spoiled but...the King took it to a new level. I mean making her sleep on a chair and breaking every single pot she worked so hard to make was...a jerk move. Not just about teaching her a lesson it felt like it was taken to a new level. Because by the time she made those pots she had started to act better by the end of it the King seemed like a jerk too just not as bad.

It was a test to see if she would fall back to being a spoiled child. He wanted her to understand the feeling of loss and how hard it is for people with less than her who do experience it. And, also, to learn how to take responsibility.

Now the one thing I don't like about this story, which ever you prefer either King Grizzlebeard, Thrusbeard or King Rough-Beard, is that it's has a horrible moral! And before you say it's about not to judge someone's appearance or be prideful and spoiled, that's what they were going for but they did not get that! First off, the King made his daughter spoiled, he taught her to be prideful, she learned everything from him! Children learn from their parents, but it went to far. When the King didn't get his way because of the damage he had done, behind her back he pretty much sold his own child away because he didn't want to deal with the monster he created. Not only that but the young King is no angel either! The moment he saw the Princess that was all he wanted, he wanted her because she was beautiful, that's it! He made the deal with her Father to which they both agree'd to mentally abuse the Princess in to becoming subservient. Making her work is fine, but terrifying her and scaring mentally with the horse and mind you his own people, and humiliating her in front of his court until she broke down in tears is ABUSE! What a great moral, abuse a spoiled Princess until she's does what you want! A subservient Wife!
@Ani-yt6qz8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for noticing! I thought I was the only one! She was sold by her father, clearly forced into a marriage she didn't want, (which is not a true marriage) and thrush beard IS abusive. Coming from some one with family and friends who have been abused, I can see elements of it in this story. I don't care if it's a fairy tale or not, it's actually pretty horrid to watch. I do like the other episodes though.

Eszra Yeah I was thinking most of this too.What kind of story adaptation is this?Make her sleep like an animal,have her build confidence by learning something new and then hire someone to deliberately ruin all her work?And the story just goes on like this until she cries?This is HORRIBLY abusive just to teach a lesson.And like you said,the king only wanted someone beautiful he could train like a dog.If this is how the princess was treated during the day, what was the wedding night like???

There's a much better short adaptation called King Grizzlebeard, which I feel does the story more justice. And the breaking of the pots makes more sense and is slightly less awful in that version.

He was kind and loving, outside of what was necessary for the plan. Just look, how he indulged in a mirror for her hard work, and her smile at the kiss.
@Gracejkay5 жыл бұрын
I agree with you mostly. Although i do believe he took it way too far when it came to the horse part and destroying all the pots she made. I understand she needed to learn hard work because she was a spoiled brat, but her father made her that way. Also, she might’ve been vain... but thrushbeard only liked her for her looks as well. Also, the prince didn’t have to destroy all the pots she made when she was already showing redeeming qualities. She was starting to have a better attitude. If they hadn’t shown him destroying her pots, this actually would’ve been a fantastic story.
@RancidGravy5 жыл бұрын
Gracejkay I don't think it shows it in this version, but she chose a dangerous spot to set out her stuff because she was disgusted by the other sellers and refused their advice. She just argues with that lady and what's worse, wins in this version. :3 It was pretty harsh though. I don't think he only saw her looks. If that was the case, he would either have been a lot harsher to break her spirit, or would have let her stay a bitch. And yes, it was totally her father's fault she was such a gigantic offensive brat. The story's not really about him though.
@Gracejkay5 жыл бұрын
VR VR I agree. I seen another version after this one where she was rude to people and the pot breaking thing made leagues more sense 😂😂 I liked it much better, cause this one didn’t show her nasty attitude towards the people there. I love the story a lot once I seen that version

the original King Grizzlebeard get the message of this story better out. Quite some important details missing from this one. It only make the prince look cruel, when what he was traying to do is to teatch her life lessons and make her understand that she should not look down on ppl. SPOILER like whit the solider breaking the pots/baskets, in the other one, he did it because she was rude whit the other sellers being kind offering her a spot beside them, that she ignored and instead put up shop in the middle where riders and other ppl was walking, as in not even a market shop spot, kind of like ppl setting up shops on the road instead of beside it yust to get away from ppl she did not look on as important. while in this one he is yust breaking the stuff for no reason at all since in this one it even was a market spot making, even a lady puting up a store there for years so the hole breaking pots part was unecessary in this one and make no sence.

But when I watched this, I didn't know what it was and had just finished watching King Grizzlebeard. I still don't prefer this version of Thrushbeard, but I understand now that the value and what makes this series different and special is that it has two recurring characters with a bunch of personality that actually interact with the story. It's different and that's what makes it good.

I read this story often as a child, but in my story book he was kind Hawknose. I personally like the story. I like my version better, because I feel like the 2 main characters that watch it play out as 3rd parties kind of ruin one of the twists of hawknose being the horse man. Another small but notable detail my book had better was that hawknose said that he and the old king planned this all after she turned him down. In this one he instead abandoned his bratty child. I still really like this story. Shame that all seem to see in the comments is how this story is too harsh on the princess and how the prince is mean for doing this.

And about him ruining her work Well she humilieted him so its just about right for him to do the same.

+Joshua Parris Any version of this story is crap. It's nothing about mental abuse until the Princess becomes subservient. You should the comment I left on the video. Thought in this one it's more like she gets to be rich again and the young Kings gets what he wants, a beautiful Queen. By the way it was her looks that he feel in love with and that's it, all he wanted was her because of her looks. Everything else was what I said above, abuse until turned subservient. The other versions are more like that, this just reeks of no moral at all and just reeks, though you gotta love the original animation the new stuff is horrible!
