If anyone is interested. Sinead O'Connor herself has gone through a really tough time recently. Her 17-year old Shane committed suicide about a month ago and she was admitted to the hospital with suicidal ideation. I am wondering if her song was included by the Euphoria team out of love and support for her 💕 she also has a documentary coming out called "Nothing Compares".

She said she hated this song and it was silly I'm like "great - I finally found a SOC song I really liked - and then I read she hates it." But, I said- "Oh, well, I love it, tho" Never heard it before I saw it on Euphoria, and it's SO good imo

There's an Islam joke to be made somewhere there re. suicidal ideation. Otherwise tragic to hear this for her :(

This post didn't age well, unfortunately, at no fault of Syn. RIP Sinead 🙏 This song rings in my ears more than ever in 2024. I'm going to go do something useful. Slavi Ukraini 🫡 🇺🇦

Well, you tell us that we're wrong And you tell us not to sing our song Nothing we can say will make you see You got a heart of stone You can never feel You say "oh I'm not afraid - it can't happen to me I've lived my life as a good man Oh, no you're out of your mind It won't happen to me â??Cause I've carried my weight And I've been a strong man" Listen to the man in the liquor store Yelling "anybody want a drink before the war?" And your parents paid you through You got a nice big car Nothing bothers you Somebody cut out your eyes You refuse to see Somebody cut out your heart You refuse to feel And you live in a shell You create your own hell You live in the past And talk about war And you dig your own grave yeah But it's a life you can save So stop getting fast It's not gonna happen And you'll cry But you'll never fall No, no, no You're building a wall Gotta break it down Start again No, no, no It won't happen to us We've lived our lives Basically we've been good men So stop talking of war Cause you know we've heard it all before Why don't you go out there And do something useful Oh listen to the man in the liquor store He yelling "anybody want to drink before the war?" "Anybody want to drink before the war?" "Anybody want to drink before the war?"

You emphasize this 35 years after certain people were trying to tell others of the extreme spiritual depth of this very album/song. You justify the purity of my 17 year old heart in 1987

It's a bit funny that this song is often misconstrued as an observation on colonialism, but the fact is that Sinéad wrote it about the headmaster of one of the schools she was eventually thrown out of. Talk about Death of the Author! (Though I am quite sure that on some subconscious level she equated the stodgy headmaster with England, since she's been quite vociferous about her anger concerning Ireland's situation during the years. Ever since she was a child, in fact; if her autobiography is to be taken as gospel.)
