When I was in a dark mental space as a teenager I decided that I wanted this song to be played at my funeral, I’m now mid 40’s and I still want this song played at my funeral. It’s a beautiful song and I love how It’s performed. I was devastated when I heard the news I can only hope this beautiful woman is now at peace.

I have said this many times before, nobody could sing an old Irish fold or rebel sing like our Sinead count, she was a rare one, a very fine one, a gentle kind-hearted one, a very dear one, Thanks a Million Sinead for all the song you sung and wrote, for your great generosity to others especially the abused, down trodden and forgotten ones among us. Yes Sinead you were a rare one, a very special person and we will miss you forevermore

My hubby and I were in Oughterard ,Co Galway at The Boat Inn yrs ago . I have to say we have been visiting Oughterard for 24yrs until the Covid lie arrived!. .One night we went into The Boat Inn after coming from a .Saw Doctors',concert in Galway. We sat at a table and there was a young girl sitting with her parents . Just the young woman, her parents and my husband and me . She started to sing the song ,'Raglan Rose, 'no music, just her beautiful voice. What an amazing memory my husband and I have of this ,it was so beautiful . I just wish to God I would have approached that young woman when she had finished singing and asked her her name .

Lyrics On Raglan Road on an autumn day I saw her first and knew That her dark hair would weave a snare that I might one day rue; I saw the danger, yet I passed along the enchanted way, And I said, let grief be a fallen leaf at the dawning of the day. On Grafton Street in November we tripped lightly along the ledge Of the deep ravine where can be seen the worth of passion's pledge, The Queen of Hearts still making tarts and I not making hay Oh I loved too much and by such by such is happiness thrown away. I gave her gifts of the mind I gave her the secret sign that's known To the artists who have known the true gods of sound and stone And word and tint without stint for I gave her poems to say. With her own name there and her own dark hair like clouds over fields of May On a quiet street where old ghosts meet I see her walking now Away from me so hurriedly my reason must allow That I had loved not as I should a creature made of clay When the angel woos the clay he'd lose his wings at the dawn of day. Source: Musixmatch Songwriters: V. Morrison / P. Maloney / P. Kavanagh
