So beautiful and so talented, and in such a good place, seemingly, when this song was released. The video was massively popular…She was America:’s Sweetheart right here. RIP, Whitney.

One of Whitney’s best and one of the best of the cool fun 80’s decade , and one of the funnest and coolest music videos , too! That was the 80’s! So great to be be young and in my 20’s the whole decade, it’s was a blast! Rest on beautiful Whitney ….🙏🏾💐🎤❤️

So much respect for Whitney bringing power vocals into the pop scene. We had Madonna and Janet who were great entertainers but not strong vocalists. I was lucky enough to have seen Whitney in concert when she was alive. Best voice I ever heard live. ❤️

If you haven't seen Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner in the movie, "The Bodyguard" where she portrays a pop star who finds herself having feelings for her security guy.... Great Movie with an awesome soundtrack, a MUST SEE film for any Whitney Houston fan. This song, I knew you'd love it, who couldn't love this song. I'm glad she was happy, if only for a while. Love you Queen, your spirit uplifts me when times are tough.

The Seattle husband and wife writing team of this song, George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam, also wrote for Whitney “How Will I Know.” I remember seeing a local TV interview with them, and because of the royalties from those songs, they called their home “the house that Whitney built.“ They also had a hit single of their own, “Waiting For A Star To Fall,” that I really liked. Both Whitney and Belinda Carlisle turned it down, so they recorded it themselves, and it did pretty well for them. It was featured in the movie “Three Men and a Little Lady” with Tom Selleck, Ted Danson, and Steve Guttenberg.

@@cassiemichael4697 Dee Dee Warwick abused her when she was young 💔 I’m not surprised why she ended doing all the things she did. What a sad life for an amazing artist. Just as Judy Garland, Edith Piaf, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin…

In this day and age when there is so much negativity in the world it is so wonderful to watch a video like this that is so much fun and just positive. I remember singing to this with my girlfriends and watching the video (it was my 13th birthday slumber party and we had a singing contest to this song and Expose's "Point of No Return" and "Come Go With Me". We used our hairbrush for microphones.) Another video like this Whitney did that was fun and upbeat actually came out before "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" was "How Do I Know" which solidified Whitney's megastar status.

The song is a metaphor about wanting a stable and loving romantic relationship, rather than a one night stand or a relationship that ends fairly quickly because he doesn't really love her, or at least not enough to show her and be exclusive.

Although strictly speaking not my favourite type of music...this song is really "a blast" and Whitney clearly had a great time making the video.I am old enough to remember its original release (I was in my late teens).A beautiful talented lady with a great singing voice...watching this makes me both happy and sad nowadays (knowing her future, but that it was still years away when she did this classic track with its very 80s visuals and fashion)💜🎩
