Thank you for sharing your Tretinoin journey! I started at the lowest percent and had no issues using it nightly so I went up to 0.05%. Again, I was able to use it 3x a week with no irritation whatsoever so I went up to 0.1% and omg....I cannot use it more than once a week or I will have the angriest skin ever. I get my Tretinoin through Curology. I've also come to learn that higher strengths don't do more than the other strengths of Tretinoin. They all do the same but the lower strengths take a bit more time for results to show. But using Tretinoin is a lifelong journey anyway so shouldn't be an issue.

I've been using Tretinoin-started out with 0.05, then switched to 0.1-for a little over a year to treat my moderate acne that's been on and off since November 2019. I use it everyday and i've never had any irritation, drying effect or purging. I just wish i didn't buy the cream and was faithful enough to use it for almost a year without seeing any results. I switched to the 0.1 Tretinoin gel a few weeks ago and see much better results in a much shorter amount of time. The cream version was a greasy mess. I always woke up with my face looking like it was dipped in an oil tank. The gel is stronger, which does irritate my skin a little bit and make it more sensitive to use other skincare products, primarily sunscreen. But it dries out my acne real fast, so i don't care about the slight irritation. It doesn't bother me at all. I'm happy to use the 0.1 Tretinoin Gel. Hopefully, it'll also lighten my stubborn acne marks.

I use my derms 13 dot technique with my tretinoin & find that works beautifully for an even application. And I do sandwich my stieva-a with a buffer before the sandwich 🥪 stage. Loved hearing your journey! I’ve been on tretinoin for almost 10 years & I’m so glad I powered through; it’s so worth it. I use the cerave around my mucous membranes too, great tip! After I finish applying I gently tap any residue on my eyelids & around the eyes. I’ve experienced zero irritation. I love eucerin, particularly the 10% urea iteration, it’s excellent head to toe. We use almost all of the same products!

@@PinCushionQueen yes, the other prescription brand name. I’m currently on 0.025 Stieva-A which is working well I think. My pharmacist couldn’t really offer any insides on difference between this 2 brands other than Stieva-A is slightly cheaper. I checked the ingredients and Retinol-A has a bit less stuff in their base but not sure how that translates on the skin. Sometimes is better to find out from others experience ☺️

I started a few months ago with the company Agency, which is the sister company to Curology. Agency focuses more on the anti-aging aspect of things. At first I was disappointed because you start at such a LOW amount of trentinoin. In fact- I only graduated to .02% last month... but even on the lower side of things, I experienced dryness. I think anyone just starting out or with sensitive skin should try Agency. Less horror stories of peeling skin, and you work your way up. Takes longer, but you don't feel like Freddy Kreuger, either 😊

I just started about 2 weeks ago. I had a couple weeks on adapalene before and some time on Neutrogena retinol cream. I have had a bit of a purge, breakouts, but very little dryness. I use sandwich method and have used almost every night since I got it. I also started using sunscreen. The one day I had some dryness I forgot to put the second layer of moisturizer a couple nights before and I think that's what it was. But went away quickly. My moisturizer is a Vitamin E cream and gold bond hand cream. On the few days I haven't used tret, I put one layer moisturizer and then cover in Vaseline... Wake up like a baby butt... Lol

What I have found is that in the summer it is better not to use anything with acids such as vitamin C in ascorbic acid, tretinoin or hyaluronic acid against pigment spots. I use niacinamide and zinc PCA. And mild form of vitamin A Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate. I only use the mild form of vitamin A when the weather is cloudy the next day.

I just came across your channel and I love it! I just started using tretinoin on Tuesday along with Spironolactone and have been able to use it every night. I transitioned from adapalene to tretinoin and I haven't experienced the irritation and chapping yet only dryness and flaking which is not too bad. I put Vaseline around my eyes, nose and side of the lips. I'm also using the ultra repair cream from first aid beauty alongside Dr. Jart ceramidin liquid and Cicapair serum before tretinoin and the repair cream after. However, idk if I should use the Cicapair in the mornings rather than before tretinoin. Also, what do you think about Dr. Jart ceramidin cream to use after applying tretinoin?

My mom is the same way but I do find using Vitamin C, Retinol Serums and/or Creams can really help to brighten the under eyes even more.. I didn't experience any purging (maybe the benefit of being close to 50) and began with .05, and somehow my clogged pores disappeared. Prior to the pandemic I had to see an esthetician every 2 weeks for extraction. So far I haven't had the need to do this. I upgraded to .07 and now for a few months, .01. My teen kid is now using .05 after I didn't see much improvement in her acne from adapalene. I am hoping she will not purge, and it has been 2 weeks already. I do notice that her clogged pores look different prior to using .05, but I don't know what this stage would be called. It looks like they are sitting on the surface.

So Ash, I’m using the same % as you & slowly, after 1 year, am now able to use it 5 times a week with very little redness - at last! Now I’m not sure whether to switch to higher %. Are the possible benefits worth the possible irritation, dryness, redness & peeling? Just not sure. Are you going to keep at this % of Tret?

That is amazing! Using a higher strength will possibly give you quicker results but the benefits/results would be the same. I recently saw my dermatologist and he actually prescribed me the 0.05% (only because I asked him for it) so I may start using it soon... I am willing to go through more dryness/irritation as I am still experiencing it so why not experience it longer lol😜

Thank you for watching 🥰 Yes I did.. I was using the Drunk Elephant A-Passioni Retinol cream prior. It's not necessary to use a retinol before hand. I was using both when I first started Tretinoin as I started with 1 day a week with Tret and then once or twice week I would use the retinol and I did this for a while. Eventually I stopped using the retinol and continued with Tretinoin. This is what I did but of course you don't need to use retinol prior..

Some people may use Tranexamic Acid with Tretinoin but since you are new to Tretinoin I wouldn't use Tranexamic Acid until you know how your skin tolerates to Tret. Dryness and irritation can occur which is normal but then again maybe you won't experience that. You can use Tranexamic Acid on the nights you don't use Tret but again just be careful as both products can cause dryness.

My chin peels too and around my nasal labial folds. It's completely up to you but if it was me I would keep using Tretinoin on the chin area. You can apply the Tretinoin as a "sandwich" technique by applying moisturizer first, Tretinoin then moisturizer to help with the dryness.

0.01 is the highest actually.. it’s 1% basically. Whereas 0.025 is quite low

Depends on the acne scars but it will fade those post acne marks those pink/dark areas where acne used to be.

I'm confused with which one is higher?

The 0.01% is the lower, I don't think she knows there are strengths lower then the 0.025%. I believe in the US there is even a lower 0.005% strength.

Okay, thank you... when ever I try and look for research on any information on Google.... I find it difficult for some reason. Nothing seems to clear... you really have to search and search. It's crazy! Thank you for your response 💛

With the brand that I have 0.025% is the lowest strength. I don’t believe there is a lower strength than mine (with the brand I have) as I wasn’t given an option for it. The next strength is 0.05% and then 0.1% being the strongest.

@@SincerelyMissAsh Are you using the Stieva A cream? you should double check with your derm and pharmacy. I have super sensitive skin and that is where I'm starting. I'm in Calgary, it doesn't make sense that it would be available here in western Canada and not eastern, the east usually gets everything new first!

I just started tonight and was told I had the lowest amount at 0.01 but now I’m scared is that too high?? I didn’t know 0.025 was the lowest. Or maybe I stink at math

0.1% in a Tretinoin "Cream" is the highest strength. It goes 0.025%, 0.05% and then 0.1% I am assuming that goes for all Tretinoin Cream brand names but I am not 100% certain on that as I have only used the Stieva-A brand.
