It's been almost 11 years since we were introduced to Colin's Killian Jones aka Captain Hook in OUAT and his portrayal still has the same powerful effect on me (and my heart) it had back then. All the thought and work Colin put into this character was easily felt in every scene he was in, even the shortest ones. He was such a complex and amazing character and watching him on his journey from young idealistic lieutenant to ruthless pirate to the man of honor he was, seeing how much courage he showed letting go off revenge and allowing his heart to care and love again was so rewarding. No one could have brought him to life the way Colin O'Donoghue did. At least not in a way that would have made me care this deeply for this fictional character.

I wish he kept his accent on the show. It's only a slight Irish accent. It's enough to have its own spice to the character's already charming nature. We have two aussies and a scot, as well as a slew of English people...why not add an Irishman?

+uscgal04 it's true that Englishmen are often cast as villains when the only thing distinguishing them is their accent. They've even done a study about it - more than one, I expect, but there was a recent one mentioned on QI. So it's factually accurate what he/she said. I promise you posh English accents are not 'mumbl-y'. The Americans have a monopoly on that. And Hook's accent is not an 'amalgam'. It's a poor attempt at upper class English that keeps slipping.

Barrie really did describe him that way, "In a word, the handsomest man I have ever seen, though, at the same time, perhaps slightly disgusting". It's perfect. I can never decide whether this guy is good-looking or not before I'm put off. Also "not wholly unheroic". He's also swallowed in the jaws of a crocodile at one point- though he does come back to life. Wonder what that means.

I'm from the Netherlands, but I study English. You can hear it sometimes in very small speech, but it's mostly American English that he speaks, rather than the Irish accent which he uses here.

Actually he was asked at comic con if he based his interpretation of Hook on Jack and he said flat out no. He said his main inspiration for the character was The Dread Pirate Roberts from The Princess Bride.
