My favorite description of the Moon Presence. "It appears as an emaciated corpse, headless, and violently defiled. Many tendrils like the veins of a large deformed creature flow like sewage through invisible waters. The chest has been torn apart; and organs and vitalities stolen and stripped, only sharpened bones on pink raw flesh remains. The tail most resembles fleshy insects, like centipede roots constantly all in silent pain. Its head, if you even call it that, is little more than an elongated neck with an empty dark hole; what lies within, I do not dare imagine. The gurgling noises are most befitting of gushing blood from a freshly cut stump, although no such fluids are present."
@CNNBlackmailSupport3 жыл бұрын
So the hugging is actually forcing you to drink the bloodish stuff in its neck hole?
@xshullaw3 жыл бұрын
@@CNNBlackmailSupport Well there is no fluid in its head, and when it embraces you it's pushing its head against your belly.
@CNNBlackmailSupport3 жыл бұрын
@@xshullaw "no such fluids are present" is linked to the "gurgling noises of gushing blood from a freshly cut stump." That doesn't have anything to do with internal workings, as freshly cut stumps are as external as possible. The noise is from the blood exiting the wound, not existing in the body. The moon presence isn't leaking fluids, so it's safe to assume that the actual fluids being heard are deeper down the hole in its stump neck. The speaker doesn't dare look down the "empty dark hole" or guess "what lies within." Empty, in this case, meaning the area of the hole that is seen. An "empty window" doesn't mean the room behind it is empty, just the actual window frame leading to the room. Maybe the blood is all phantom stuff and can't be seen in any manner, but that isn't what the speaker says. The hole entry is empty, gurgle noises are coming from it, he doesn't see any fluid leaking or dripping from the hole. That could describe a literal asshole in 85% of a human's life, and yet it isn't empty, is it? Also, it is headless, so we are talking stomach/throat/lung fluid or whatever it has in those tentacle holes, since it doesn't have those organs(visible to us, at least). If you superimpose a head on its neck, he actually shoves the player into its mouth/head(depending on how wide the jaws would go). The stomach of the player glows (you ate the cords) and rebuffs the moon presence. I feel it was originally supposed to eat your soul the same way that tribes of cannibals believe they are eating the soul of their victim when they eat the flesh. Maybe that is how it chains you to the dream. It eats your essence and locks it in the dream as a warden. We know it enslaves people to run the dream, but not why. Just guesses about why.

The "beasthood creeps from the right leg" myth seems to be exactly that, a legend, as all the mutated Yharnamites clearly display the first sign of the scourge on their left arm, exactly where we also receive the Blood Transfusion as the Sullied Bandages indicate. Even the Cleric Beast displays this feature on its more twisted left arm. The loss of the right leg seems more to indicate a pact of loyalty, which is why all those statues of knight on horses in the Queen's Chambers are also missing it. Speaking of Cainhurst, I'm pretty sure that most of Yharnam, cathedrals and chapels included, where either built by them or where left eons past by the Pthumerians who inhabitated the surface: after all if Cainhurst nobles and relatives can give birth to the children of Great Ones, while other Yharnamites like Adella, who's even called a Saint by the Healing Church, can't, is because they still posses enough of that original Pthumerian blood in their line. It's never clearly stated if Pthumerians were born underground (which could be as this is exactly what happened with the first human like beings of Dark Souls, making this a reoccuring motif) or were born on the surface and then either all of them or some left to build the old labyrinth and maybe came back after the defiled of Pthumeru and the fall of the underground Pthumerian civilization.

The first thing I noticed about the Moon Presence artwork at 43:50 was the left hand being clearly more deformed than the right, so I agree with you about the arms and legs stuff for sure.
@c.l.a.u.d.e4 жыл бұрын
@@Kevin-qv3ch The connection between Great Ones and Beasts don't stop there: the artwork of the Beast Rune represents a claw with six fingers, which is exactly the type of hand that the Moon Presence, Amygdala and the Brain of Mensis have.
@ernestoernestez65373 жыл бұрын
I think the myth of the scourge creeping from the right leg actually makes perfect sense. Yharnamites get their shots on their left arms as people usually do, since old societies would consider the right arm the able one regardless of whether you were right or left handed. However, when you, as the Hunter, administer Blood to yourself, where do you take your shots? Well.... you stab the thing into your right thigh, because its quick and practical in the midst of combat. Most hunters probably do so as well, and most of their blood shots probably come from this source rather than administration by clerics. So it makes A LOT of sense for Hunters and Knights and the like to present signs of beasthood in their right leg, and amputate them as a (most likely ineffective) way of stopping the scourge.

Nyarlathotep actually does have humanoid traits such as desires, hates, and joys which is what makes him truly terrifying. He is the great one that can almost be understood. In Lovecraft’s short story titled “Nyarlathotep,” he goes across the world demonstrating strange acts of scientific theory and experimentation hitherto unwitnessed by the human race which leaves them in awe and in a sense of religious terror. Also the moon changes color and the population of the unnamed city he visited goes mad. I suggest reading it and Under the Pyramids as well as The Dream Quest of Unknown Kaddath.” For an eldritch horror licked in a gothic church tower surrounded by religious zealots and xenophobes, try The Haunter of the Dark.
@necrumwarrior2384 жыл бұрын
I'm sure others have pointed this out, but Nyarlathotep is actually the only "god" in the Cthulhu Mythos who takes an interest in and involves himself in the affairs of humanity. So in that way the Moon Presence does kind of have something in common with Nyarlathotep, as it is directly involved with the workshop hunters.
@necrumwarrior2384 жыл бұрын
I get that the game is more about ghosts and vampires and other Victorian horror with a thin layer of Chtulhu painted on top of it and is not really like the Mythos, but I think the influence of Lovecraft is a little more present than you guys give it credit for. The Pthumerians are a really good example of this, as alternate humanoids and genetic degeneration are both major themes in many of Lovecraft's stories which seems to get completely overlooked by a lot of people when examining Bloodborne. Most people really hone in on the weird tentacled creatures, but to me the Pthumerians are the most Lovecraftian thing in the game. Good examples of this theming in Lovecraft are Facts Concerning the Late Arthur Jermyn and The Rats in the Walls.

Eeeey dudes and dudetess, awesome podcast, barely half through, but I had to get this out! Recently, I was studying on druids, on accounts of the few historians from the Roman era, and they mention this druid ceremony where druids would, at a specific phase of the moon (not mentioned which one though) collect these weird "eyed rocks" that would be released from a something called "the snake ball", which is supposedly a ball of snakes held together by a slime and saliva produced by the snakes. I don't know how on topic this is, but damn, it reminded me of Bloodborne a lot :D Cheers! P.S. don't stop bullying Richie, his manners seems to get better erry time xD ;)

Question. Both Ebrietas and the Moon Presence presents, on the back of their bodies, a section from which sprouts tentacles and 2 wings. Now, since that section in the altered model is colored differently from the rest of the body, which is black, can we assume that the Moon presence is a composed being, and that the "flora" part of it is similar to that of Ebrietas (and therefore they both evolved in a similar manner, but Ebrietas was less "enlightned")? Or it's just a common theme in the design of the great ones to have parts inspired by fungi, plants and other strange live forms? I ask because, if i'm not mistaken, only Ebrietas and then Moon Presence have wings and tentacles on the back.
@tacodude984 жыл бұрын
Lovecraft was known to combine aspects of fungi, animals, and plants in his "creatures" to show how evolutionarily alien the entities are. To me, it seems like the wings are a symbol of how some people see these things as divine or angelic.

@Sinclair Lore I know this is late, but Yes, Bloodborne's game engine is not able to easily swap textures on the fly. The game engine was, as a way to keep the game from slowing down a lot, was made to use static textures to simplify environmental rendering and asset rendering. This was done to lighten the workload of the CPU and GPU to maintain the frame rate. Blood on the character is not a texture asset, but a mesh transparency, again as a way to simplify rendering to stress the GPU less so frame rates can be maintained at the desired resolution.

Quick Theory that just popped to my head Kos was the first great one ever get pregnant, and Flora(aka the moon presence) got jealous, so Flora and Kos had a fight deep under the sea, Flora got heavily damaged and Kos died, they both ended in the shore of the fishing Hamlet Flora left before the humans living in the hamlet found out about this whole ordeal to lick her wounds before coming back and claiming kos' baby The humans of the Hamlet start worshiping Kos and eating her rotting corpse, slowly mutating into those fish people we meet in the dlc On the other side, of the world while Flora is still healing she is called, not by Laurence thought, I think she got called by Master Willem. Flora had a passive contact with humans on this area of the map for centuries, presumably people prayed to her and asked for knowledge, power, etc and Flora would indirectly whisper the hunter rune into their ear and with that whisper they would find enlightenment, but this time it was different, this time Flora was mad and suffering a lot of pain thanks to her fight with Kos and she whispered a vengeful variant of the hunter rune into Willem's ear, Willem then got the idea to kill everyone in the hamlet and so they did Later she got called in a more direct personal matter by Laurence, and the rest is history

@SinclairLore4 жыл бұрын
"The cairnhust knights have 1 leg in the statues." I think that's an interesting interpretation, but Richie and I are thinking that it has something to do with an earlier iteration of the game, where beast hood crawled up the right led or whatever, and they had to get rid of it to get rid of beasthood. Kind of like in sekiro they get rid of an arm to stop themselves from becoming shura.

Something that attacks with blood ascended via the blood, poison via a curse(weaker links than the other two but it's to do with Loran), and frenzy via insight. This is the reason that they can create new members of their species via corruption and influence, but they can't truly have children.

Clicked off by the 6th minute. First 6 minutes was a complete waste of time and gave no information about the moon prescence. With a title like this, the video should just be filled with moon prescence facts instead of cheeky banter.
