As the units of the chemical capsaicin is the number on the Socville scale. The reason why used is it is very reproducible results also as the feeling of "heat" in your mouth and the feeling of "spicy" are normally caused by the same thing. What capsaicin does is fit into the respecters for heat in your mouth thus making it feel hot. You can have many units of capsaicin without it actually being spicy though it would have to be through artificial means as all nature foods that have it also have the spicy parts too.

I like the spicy, did the One Chip challenge awhile back...did it at work on my break actually. Recovered before break was up. It was definitely way hotter than you'd reasonably want something to be, but more than that it was disgusting as fu@$. I had burps the rest of the day that kept bringing the taste back...nasty shit. It was objectively the worst thing I have ever tasted, and I say that having swallowed a bit of gasoline by accident once. If it tasted like Dorito though, I'd have another go at it.

fun fact: there are two ways to bypass extreme capsaicin: no tolerance and very high tolerance. no tolerance, once you adapt to lower spicy sauces, can basically shut off receptors the capsaicin bind to so you cannot feel additional pain. the middle tier accesses the full range of pain. if you enjoy the super stuff, congrats, you're a masochist. the very high tolerance exceeds that where you basically cannot feel pain and capsaicin no longer has any effect
